The item time out feature needs to be increased to 30 minutes. I've seen this all too often too of people waiting to rez you after your item...

Probably a hp axe like the one I found that has +25Hps on it and you could add another +30 hps. And as for the shield there's some out there...

Since many spells bypass armor it doesn't really matter what armor you are wearing vs elemental damage, but, it does matter vs melee damage...
