I actually got a gold staff from the Lich some time back. No you don't get anything special for beating the Lich, weapon wise.

Apparently it's apart of the mission. Because they should have res shrines so 4.5 hours of work don't go down the drain because of a lag...

You can't. You have to take a break, GW isn't changing. Finding friends could help, but taking a break is better.

I'm gonna ask again, is there anyone who completed the Maw quest in Stygian Veil?

Has anyone gotten past that quest with the Stygian enemies? Because that area isnt' even the elite mission, it's just an elite area.
