I'm pretty sure we all know it's just a game and "just a bunch of pixels", however I can't help but get attached to the character I've been using for 14 months. |
That is the exact same face that my female warrior had and the exact same change was done. I do not like it.

As I mentioned earlier, some modest changes may remain -- necessary changes that allow the movement of the faces and mouths in sync to the dialogue of the cinematic. The lighting improvements, the correction to the long-standing issue with the eyes, and a few other small things will be fixed. But the team really will attempt to restore things to their original form as much as possible. We thank you for your patience and understanding! |

I second the teeth problem. Some chars got quite open mouths, and some have black or yellow teeth ... or even dentures.
I also really suggest to remove the Botox and Collagen injections, some chars might fly to the sky.

Before update: After update: If I turn her away from the lighting source, it's bearable. Unfortunately eles don't have masks, so it's not like I can put a bag over her head. Enhanced, toothy mouth gape is not attractive, and coupled with a moustache, it's downright horrifying. She's my second oldest character, and I'm not remaking her. If the moustache persists, I'll stop playing her very much at all. Someone please help her! *sobs* |
thats one ugly mofo. i would be seriously pissed off.
it seems like alot of faces got bigger lips..?

Btw shaders with LOW graphics effects look UGLY. Try that in all other games and see yourself. The Art guys will fix it but as Gaile said, it will not be instant.

To those taking this too seriously don't worry Anet will fix it. In the meantime I'm too scared to take off my characters masks.

Zoomed out in-game, a dot appears on the back of her head (which follows her head movement). When moving, the dot appears brighter than what is shown in the pictures, and quite annoying. Picture 3 was taken in-game. Pictures 4, 5 and 6 were zoomed in further using Paint Shop Pro.
It's been there ever since I got the game last year, and I have reported it once. I was hoping that the changes would have included a fix, but I was wrong.
TeeGee
The real problem are not only face changes but graphic glitches on some models and armors (like those neck holes, turkey cranes, glitching monk handwraps or blinking square on female mesmer luxon armor). I just can't say how it's related to the lip-syncing.
I hope that devs are working not only on faces.

what's funny about this thread is that people aren't comparing picture taken under the same conditions (view, angles, lighting etc).

About the new (considerably inferior) crane...
There are two tigers, two crabs, but only one crane. I should HOPE that the new crane skin has been added, and not completely replaced the beautiful old one.
It would still suck for the poor guy who woke up with a bleached crane, but variety is okay. Replacing perfectly beautiful animals for no reason, isn't.
Another (more likely, now that I think about it) possibility might be that it's just like the hairstyles from the last preview event; The crane has accidentally been replaced with its Nightfall counterpart, due to an asset naming error, in which case it should be fixed soon, just like the hair was.

No amount of special lighting, camera angles or views is going to fix the mess this updates made of some peoples faces

I started up guildwars this morning and i was shocked to discover they adjusted my mesmers eye shadow.

I was worrired about how my chars would look after seeing all the posts here, but when I fired up GW I was happy to see that they all looked as good, if not better, than before. Whew!

If you read this Gaile or Anet, please look at Censor's Handwraps. I put a screenshot in another thread of how they go through the arm since the update. Terrible graphical glitch with them.

Actually if I had the choice of having lip synch in game or having my characters face as I originally chose it, I would definitely go for the face being the same. Lip synch FTL.
Eternal Equinox
Above is before/after. The new look ain't exactly pleasant to look at.
Oh, and my Mesmer's neck has a nice slice in it as well.

here, I went and took some screenshots to illustrate the problems I described above, which I've been having since... well, since these characters exist.

yes PLEASE fix the enlarged buns on female monks, i was shocked when i logged onto my monk today and noticed her hair was changed, the hair buns look much bigger, i noticed this instantly rather then anything else about my other chars,in fact her head is now so big looking it makes her look really funky and out of proportion to the rest of her body, ive had my monk for a very long time and shes my best char, and i dont want to start playing her less because i cant stand looking at how funny she looks now because her hair got bigger - on a side note, my monk has 3,000+ hours on her, i think id notice a change if anyone .
Thallandor
After looking at this thread i have decided that all my future new characters will be male.......
Anyways after the facial pixelation fix to those that really require it, perhaps this is a good time as any for Anet to implement a ingame Cosmetic practitioner NPC with some dialouge to have it make sense ingame and allow characters to change their faces with an amount if gold if they wanted to. This option can even allow new faces/hair styles that cant be found in the current character creation screen which would perhaps cost bit more or require some quest items etc and add some spice to the current curry.
Since factions, some players have been asking for such an option to change their looks, this messy facial update seems like a good time to implement this both as a fix for those who are still unsatisfied with their faces after final moderation and also provide players the chances for variation of looks and make players happy? This cant be bad cant it?

I have several characters affected, some more than others, but the change I am hating most is to my Ele.
Looks like I have the same face as Queen Christie and Kedlai Everwinter. People may look and this and say "what's the problem, it looks 95% the same, stop whining." The fact is, for people that haven't spent many hours playing your character, the difference is almost impossible to notice. But when it's your character, and it's been chaged into a face that you would never have picked at the character creation screen, it's really quite annoying and distressing. I am sure that Hardcore GW players like me all round the world are currently looking at their screens thinking...."but...but...it's different...why can't they just put it back?"
Gaile's responses are helpful but have actually made me more depressed. OK, so because some OTHER people have asked for lip sync, MY face has to be changed and I can do nothing about it. In response to people like me complaining, faces will be changed to look 'as much as possible' like they used to. As much as possible still = DIFFERENT. I don't care if a panel of 10 judges couldn't tell the difference between the old face and the new face.... I can, and it's no longer the same person. Only the people that play these characters are in a position to judge, and if they are not happy then the experiment has not been successful.
There is only one way to solve this, which should be pretty obvious, which is just to put the faces exactly back to what they were before. I mean, the same data, the same image, the same bits and bytes....NOT a 95% match, a 99% match or even a 99.999% match.
Things like faces just shouldn't be messed with. Change the skills (we can use different ones), change even the clothes (we can always buy different ones) but the character's face is something you choose at creation and can never change. And when you spend 150 hours on a character, then its face is changed to something you would never have picked in the first place, and there is nothing you can do about it - being told that other people wanted lip sync so you need to put up with it doesn't make you feel good.
Please, just put the faces back to what they were. I don't care if the old faces don't quite work with lip sync. Most people skip cut scenes anyway. But people spend many, many hours on the look of their character and this is far more important to them than lip sync.

I seriously dont see any huge difference but if there is, its certainly for the better seeing as her face is, in my opinion, better detailed.

Why did this:
Change into this?
For me that's just totally different.
And don't tell me that the lighting at the log in screen is different. I know that. I've looked in several different lightings in game.
It's not just the shape of the face and the eyes, but also the skin tone. What used to look like a healthy but of sun tan bow looks like 6 layers of foundation.
