Hard mode?
Red_Dragon56
I would love it if it was just monsters levels are doubled. Or maybe all monsters are +20 levels higher. Just think of the first mission in proph with all those Char after you. That would give you reason to run.
GourangaPizza
I don't mind re-doing missions in hard mode, as long the monsters' drops, chest drops or experience gained from monster killing is better than it being in normal mode.

Anyone think this is ggoing to be an added deal to the mission, or just referring to Bonus/Masters?

You donot have to go and redo these missions.
If they are adding this it will be for people who hunt these kind of titles, no need for you to blow up like you did.

I guess what has me the most excited about hard mode is that this is something ANet actually has to go back into earlier chapters and work on too. They'll actually have to do something for older chapters with this addition. Many additions seem like a "latest chapter only" thing.
Sounds like a cool idea, too.
Definitely seems like this was accidentally left in with the skill balance build though. If it isn't close, I can't see any reason why they'd hint at it this soon. To those who are upset that their already-Protector-titled characters don't appear to have access to hard mode, well I'm sure that's not ANet's intent. Most likely a bug.

While you're working on the "hard mode" updates, could you please take a few weeks to bundle in an auction house with it? People have only been asking for that since the first chapter.

It will be cool, folks. It will be optional. Nobody's titles will be devalued, not at all. And no one--no one!--is being forced to participate! |
Perhaps this can't be confirmed yet but I'll be watching this space closely.
I mean, Thunderhead Keep + Hard Mode = Uber Entertainment! But having to do, ugh, Jennur's Horde AGAIN on an even HARDER setting...really...please don't make me go there!!

So, The Burning Crusade is released, and with it Heroic (hard) Mode for dungeons. A few weeks later, now Guild Wars as well... copycats ftw
Seriously though, I don't really mind. Will be interesting to see what they can do to squeeze something "new" out of the old stuff

I just hope this isn't just shorter timers, stupid environmental effects or just boosting all the mob levels to 28.
Better mob AI and skill bars and a slight level boost and some new secondary objectives would be fine by me.

I'm really looking forward to this. I LOVE PvE but I must admit it's far too easy for experienced players. I can't think of a single standard mission that I can't hero/hench to masters first attempt simply by setting up the right builds on my heroes. The final areas of the game should be a real challenge, but they're not as hard as i think they should be.
This would provide an optional challenge to those who don't want to be limited to only a few elite areas in the game currently. But i can imagine finding a PUG good enough to get the job done may be even harder than the mission itself.

I honestly hope that they do something interesting, like give mobs real skillbars, and make an attempt to buff the AI, instead of making the whole game have a DoA-style Hard Mode. It would be nice if it didn't require 'tanks' and careful agro mnagment.

Hmmm, this should be interesting and I like the idea of spicing up old missions.
I wonder how they are going to handle "mixed groups" though. By this I mean folks that are still playing thru the game for the first time and get into a mission town with folks who are there mainly for "hard mode". Perhaps the changes will be something that would be transparent for mixed groups.
Here's some theories that haven't been mentioned yet (I think)
- 6 Skill bar
- Must kill every single enemy in mission area. If you do, it counts as "hard mode" completed.
- Absolutely no deaths allowed. Play thru mission as normal. If anyone on your team dies, you complete mission as normal (or fail mission, possibly), however if no deaths occur then it counts as "hard mode" completed.
I don't know what A-net plans for hard mode, but hopefully it will be something that will allow first-timers ("just get me past this mission!!!!") to mix with the hard mode seekers.

DoA on Hard Mode, I shudder at the thought...... RoT will be challanging enough (I know lots of people who are stuck at Gate of Madness for ages because there are simply no people there or no people willing to actually spend time getting a decent group together, Imagine the trouble finding a group capable of attempting the hard mode... I really hope it will be DoA like :-D Will the the game a nice challange ;-)

I hope they introduce something like "Hard Mode District"s. It would be too painful if the hard mode entailed something like marking a checkbox before entering missions. I'm thinking about what has been mentioned as "mixed group"s.

Hard Mode makes you do mission with Mending Wamo, Touchers, Echo Flare, Fast Cast Healer, Critical Minion Master, Vengeance Mending Bonder Monk, and you can't choose your skillbar.

ok i am at work and dont have time to read all the thread. But what i would like to know is. Will a character that you already have that has completed the title be able to complete this title as well. I have My fav man that i have used since the begining of Guild wars time and i want him to be able to get it for him. He has a massive list of title and would like to get them all for him. (title freak ) I dont like it when they start a new title and you cant git it because youare to far along in the game to get it.

I'm a lady and my health is not an issue......the issue is they are trying to devalue a title that some of my characters have had a tough time getting (and for the guy who says we arent playing correctly if we dont have masters on all missions......try doing it with JUST pugs and see how it goes)....and I am one of those title hunters too.
I wish they would fix some of the problems as has been said instead of trying to fix unbroken things......I dont think that that many people will rush to ascalon to redo the northern wall on hard mode-----and those that do will do it quickly and then we are back to where we are......those people who had the protector title now have the guardian title and ascalon will be empty again except for sellers.......
and it still makes me mad

If you are just gonna say stupid things like this, I don't think you deserve to play Guild Wars and you don't need to be on these forums, don't be an @s$, good day sir.

I can see the advertising now -- "Come enjoy our new 'Hard Mode', where the whole game becomes DoA!".
Yep, that's the ticket...
No doubt hard mode will be a final thrust of the stake into the heart of any remaining multiplayer aspect of the game -- you can only go into missions with your three heroes, and good bloody luck dealing with those level 49 mobs... Bwahahahah!
Kinda makes you wonder, don't it? You save the world at least three times and you still can't manage to get over level 20. Yet run-of-the-mill monsters keep getting to higher and higher levels. Clearly evil does pay, how does one quit this chicken outfit and join up with the dark side?

They did copy WoW because they were playing it half the time. Not that "hard mode" is something that's never been done before in games. Meanwhile Burning Crusade made a new PvP modes that copy GW's PvP right down to shrine capping mechanics, so guess what the Blizzard devs are playing.

I don't hold out much hope for an intelligent "hard mode."
I base my low expectations on ANet's existing practices. DoA is a boring hack-and-slash slog; I can do it, have done it, and find it boring as heck. Sure, DoA is "hard", in the sense of "hard work." Fun, it is not. I doubt more than a very, very tiny minority of the popuation plays in DoA, simply because it is often empty.
Forcing people to use PuGs will mean I have no interest in "hard mode", given the paucity of good players available in many areas for playing "normal" missions. Heroes have *SAVED* many mission areas by eliminating the need to spam "GLF" for hours on end.
What would I like to see? Revisions to the missions, adding additional objectives and monsters with complete skill bars and secondary professions. Better rewards for more challenge.
What we'll get, though, and level 28 Charr in Surmia.
Pessimism? No. Just look at how ANet has increased "challenge" in the current game.

Whats that mode in diablo 2 u can play after u beat the game? Where if u die u have to delete the char to remake cause u cant play him again. Could this "Hard" mode be related somewhat to that. I mean most likely not like that because of the survivor title but could they co-interact with each other to max out 2 tittles at once. Or is this "Hard" mode going to be the 3 titan source quests in prop and the 2 eleite missions in factions, and doa in nightfall. Could it be possible for them to just be adding those to the list as "Hard" mode missions.

Well, hard mode has some potential, i just really and sincerely hope that anet learned from DoA hate and hard mode wont be just some cheap stuff like adding timer to mission and making every mob to L28 with double damage.
People already posted several nice ideas (skillbars with 6 skills, no deaths allowed ...)
To illustrate:
Variety is key for challenge ... ramping up dificulty only suceeds in making it frustrating and thus unplayed:
(i couldnt resist making this table)

I'm currently working on my Protector titles 1&3, decided against factions as I foudn the timed missions boring. Whilst "hard mode" would be quite fun, what i'm worried about is missions like THK and Gate od Madness becoming impossible on hard without a group of very exp players/voice chat group. I don't wanna have to wait ages and spend a lot of time doing overly hard missions which aren't fun because every group you're in fails at it. However I think I would go for Guardian even if Protector stayed max as it would be a challenge and i'd still have my KoaBD

I do like a challenge, but dislike it when someone says: hmm let's make a challenge ow jeah double dmg dmg here and there etc.
It all comes down to what anet makes of it, and if they make similair to DOA, then it will not atract to much attention or generate fun challenges
