Fort Aspenwood is much better, I've been having a lot of fun there, too bad it took a damn year to actually do something about the problem.
With one exception there have been no leechers when I've been playing, and in the case where there was a leecher and he got reported, he left the game (I don' t know if he saw this and left, or if the the system kicks voted leechers out automatically).

guess we'll know if those who abuse the /report command get punished or false or abuse of the command.

Don't know about you but there are no leechers in AB. System works?
Despozblehero
Im all for making a more severe penalty to abuse the report system, only question/concern I have is how do we know that when the system is abused that we wont be held liable for that abuse? Even if there arent as many people being wrongly reported as there claim theres bound to be a few, and Id like someway to ensure that everything will be rightfully resolved. RA is RA, since day 1 Ive never expected to see an astounding amount of skill out of my team when I go there, dunno why people all of a sudden do now, I think people need to go to TA for their title and maybe help improve TA if its such a problem. As for AB, well what can you say, its AB, pretty much RAx6 if you dont care who you group with... once the report thing becomes common place leechers will probably disappear. I still think given time this system (once the bugs are worked out like defining between a noob and a greifer) will be better than the leavers/leechers, and the strongest opposition to this are the people who are just trying to get a title the "easy way" and care nothing for the quality or manner in which they get it.

Stop whining and QQ more IMHO.

It's going to take a while to sort through all the feedback that is coming in about the system. I can tell you that this is a trial system. Call it V1.0, if you will. We will likely disable the system temporarily while we review its effectiveness, abuse-ability, and so forth. That disabling will likely happen in the next two or three days. Then it's analysis and report review time, allowing an overall and detailed assessment of how things are working, how they're not working as intended, and what adjustments need to be made.
I don't yet know the timeline for the second trial, the V2.0. That could come in a couple of days or maybe even a couple of weeks. But I think that the vast majority of legitimate players are very happy that we have worked up this system and I think that we'll agree that it will benefit the game in many ways. It's something we've been working on for several weeks, with consideration, discussion, and internal testing.
My basic point is that this is not an "install and forget it" process and your constructive and detailed feedback is very welcome as we tweak, adjust, and refine the system. Thanks for helping us make the best possible system that makes the game a better experience for everyone.

Since its implementation i have seen 1 leecher in AB, after a full day of playing there.
Once reported the person seemed to join in, so they may have been rubberbanding, however even though they did join in it was very eratic.
Unfotunatley I experienced about 2 minutes of rubberbanding in the middle of a fight along with my partner. It is possible that we could have been reported there. I was wondering if there is some method of the system knowing if we have connection problems, or even get disconnected from the fight, so that if it is occuring we don;t get dishonour points against us.
Another point i noticed is that some people like to save up their abusive language till the end of the fight, when you don;t have enough time to report them for it, as when you are no longer in the arena you can;t report them for it.
However, I generally do like the system and can see it working with mnor tweaks along the way.

I don't think anet can cope with the volume of reports, itll be like the old /bug command which was just ignored.
With the new glad point system i dont see RA as being worth playing as far as glad points go, its pretty easy to get to 20 wins in TA which gives 10 glad points and the games are all much faster, glad point farming was the only reason to leave bad teams and synch enter RA before.
Ive seen a lot of people trying to force their teams to die and monks not healing just becase they need to go for their dinner, RA originally was just a fun arena for killing time, somewhere to go that you could just leave at will when enough people came on for serious pvp, now its like a legal contract.
IMO the system doesnt prevent griefers, if anything it takes griefing to another level.

It amazes me how many people come to this forum to vent their insecurities on Anet. Clue-phone, folks: Anet's business model does not include the mission of alienating as many of their paying customers as they can. Good Product + Goodwill = $$.
This system is a test fix for something that is unquestionably broken. You put a bunch of immature people in an environment where there are no consequences for their actions and you get obnoxious behavior. It's a fact of life and you've all seen it. So Anet is trying to see what they can do to enforce a little civility and accountability and I am all for it. In fact, I've proposed far more comprehensive and long-lasting reputation effects than what Anet is testing now. Frankly, I think grievers who step on enough toes should run around with a new non-removable title like "Incorrigible Jerk" so we all know who to avoid!
You guys need to calm down and give this thing a chance. They are gathering hard data right now to see how this is *really* being used. Not the opinions of a few elitist leavers, not the opinions of a few pouty children, but the real numbers from the whole of the GW community that this forum, quite frankly, does not represent.
There isn't a invention in the last 10 millions years that someone hasn't figured out how to abuse and this one wont be any different. We'll just have to figure out how to work around that, as we have with every other abuse method. I'm personally thrilled to death we are at least now trying to make people accountable for their actions.

Some points I see would be crucial for it to be better:
1. Disconnected ppl cannot be reported (ie. those whose connection crashed or lag has reached 1000+ for more than 5 seconds in the last 2 minutes).
2. LOWER THE CAP. 50 is way too much imo.
3. Please, PLEASE examine or have some AI filter the reports as to actually know whether someone actually DID commit a bannable offense (if any offense at all).
4. Punish (severly, I might say) abusers. Something like banning them for 3 hours instead of 1 for "Conspiracy".
just my thoughts. (Pls, I know this isn't easy like saying put block A over block B but I'm sure the chaps @ Anet can figure something out.

Let's get some real feedback, not knee-jerk reactions. Sure, if you get a block on your account, let us know that via the Support system. But please don't post anecdotal comments without having worked with the system, because it's too easy to say "Yeah, and my grandmother was blocked for two weeks for botting, and she doesn't even have a computer!" (Forgive me, I'm not making light of those who have had problems. But I'm betting my bottom dollar that there are far fewer than some people want you to believe.) |
Over the past couple days I've played maybe 40-50 ABs and maybe a dozen RAs. Over the course of these games, I haven't observed even a single case of /report abuse. I haven't even heard anyone in-game say there's been a problem, and I play with the public chat turned on. I've also discussed the system extensively with my alliance and nobody has seen any abuse going on.
What I *have* seen is actual leeches getting reported as leeches. And better yet, I've seen leeching cut down to maybe 20% of what it used to be just last week. Quitting out early is substantially less common as well.
I don't doubt that there are a couple bad apples that abuse whatever system they can get their hands on. Anet will deal with them, if not now then by a future refinement of the "DCS".
For now, I'm PUMPED that AB has been saved. Thanks Anet.

i saw the green msg of a person being reported in AB today. we were leading by far and NOBODY in the team chat complained about any leeches. this poor fool was just another victim of the report abuse. u can chek the reports log if u think i'm making up stories.
and u say to email support about being unfairly reported. give me a break gaile. YOU KNOW it takes support 24-48 hours to reply to u. and the first reply they send, is a generated bot reply asking you for additional info EVEN THOUGH you already wrote about the problem in ur initial ticket.
i've had a lot of experience with the support team for various things and ur better off waiting for the Dishonorable Hex to wear off coz by the time u get the reply, it WILL BE ALREADY OFF.
i don't understand why anet would implement the report system when they don't have many ppl on the support team. u guys are working on GW2 and from the "quality" and bugs in GWEN it's obvious that u don't have an excess of man power to spare 24/7 for the reports.
why implement this system when u can't control the abuse? are we some kind of lab rats and u guys are testing features of GW2 on us? it really is strange.

the dishonor system is horrible! I mean can't I leave a horrible and hopeless group without being reported by ass*****. This is my example..
Me: ok, gl guys
Them: we will report you if you leave
Me: wtf.. we have 60dp, you don't know how to play I can't afford to waste my time
Then: we are gonna report you if you leave...
Also, in AB for example people are obviously gonna abuse the feature. If there is a geo-tank and they are bothered by him... report
I don't even want to afk for even a minute because I know I will be reported..
This feature has to be overhauled or thrown out asap

After all, a bastard is only an illegitimate child, and a troll, a fantastic creature. You see? Minimum erection, even if not intrinsically offensive, is there employed in an offensive manner. Do you really think this guy were not refering to his, or a, dick?

Of course I understand why I got banned for that name. The problem is I think it very unlikely I was reported because they took actual offence to me having a character named "Minimum Erection". I was no doubt reported for using a touch ranger or dancing on a corpse or laughing at someone. ANET have handed every player a cloak and dagger and told us to police ourselves and expect it to work. It's an absolute farce.

If someone reports your name as offensive, they do it via support.plaync.com. That is where you get banned.
/report system is currently automatic and unchecked, but does not result in ban, unless you'd abuse it and go on a /report spree.

* Targeting a player and typing /report or /report followed by a player's name will open a new report dialog panel. From this panel, you can report a chosen player for leeching, botting, spamming, using abusive language, or having an inappropriate character name. Reports will then be relayed and reviewed by the Guild Wars Support team.
It is part of the report system. I know that the support staff make the final decision and dish out the ban.

But the system works as intended. In this particular case, there really is nothing wrong with it.

In most certainly does work as intended. It's the way its intended to work that I have a problem with. No-one knows where they stand. We know we can't be "anti-social" but what is anti-social? Can I call someone a stupid prat for over extending or screwing up aggro without fear of getting another account flag? Can I tell a guild member to piss off and kick him because his was spamming guild chat without fear of another flag? We know we can't have inappropriate character names. But no-where in the rules of conduct is it detailed what is deemed inappropriate. Should I be reporting chars like Devils Servant, or Porno Starr or is it just arroused sexual organs? There is no clarity. This system is mayhem.

Had this come out a year or two ago i might have given it a chance but this is too much too late if you will. Maybe instead of adding useless crap thats not wanted, maybe fix the rubberbanding lag or make HA like it used to be before all the horrific changes. If you cant afford the man power to do something like this then dont even try to outsource it to the very people you are trying to get rid of.
Real world example: You accidentally cut someone off, while driving to work.
What would happen: The person you cut off /reports you for unsportsmanlike driving and your engine cuts off and you are stranded on the interstate until the hex wears off.
Yeah Basically i see this system as 90% abuse and 9% coulda just moved on with life and 1% stopping leavers, jerks etc. really im never gonna RA/TA/AB again unless this crap is gone. They should change it to NA for nazi arenas.

Maybe someone reported your name, maybe not. Anet has banned/deleted TONS of characters for their names over the past few years. And they did it all without the /report system. So don't assume for a second that you were reported by a player.
But even if you were, fine. It's clear that you shouldn't do what you did, but you did it anyway. You have nobody to blame but yourself.
You intentionally created a character with an illegal name. Anet says don't make any names that are offensive and you go and make one about aroused male sex organs. If you didn't think this would be considered offensive in a mainstream game like Guild Wars, then you're a dullard. This is YOUR fault 100%.
Would I report you? No, because (generally) I don't care enough to do so. But one of my guildmates plays this game with his son and daughter, who are 12 and 14 years old. I would NOT fault him for pointing out your illegal and inappropriate (to children at the very least) name to Anet so that they can be the judge.
One more thing, trying to cloud your offense by bringing up examples of "gray area" names doesn't help your case. It's a rationalization you've constructed to help you stay entrenched in your victim thinking. Stop blaming other players, stop blaming Anet, and take responsibility for your bad decision.

Tela, I'd encourage you to go to AB. You'll see that the leech/leaver problem has been essentially SOLVED. This is a truly impressive move on Anet's part, since leeching/leaving has regularly ruined some sorts of pvp for years. For it to be so effectively dealt with in one stroke is pretty awesome.
Yes, there are occasional rare incidents of abuse. I've AB'd about 60-70 games this weekend though and never observed abuse or heard anyone complain about it in the game. The /reports I saw were all game-long leechers (there were still a small number of them even with the system in place). So I'm standing by my position that abuse is rare.
So... holy crap try to be a teeny tiny bit patient and let Anet go through their planned /report refinement process. They said they planned to test the system this weekend and then work on improving it. So... why not see how the /report system looks after another week of development attention?
All this "ZOMG THROW THE SYSTEM OUT ANET FTL IM QUITTING GAME OVR" crap that people are spewing on this forum is shameful. Post your opinion and move on. Have enough character as a human being to show a shred of patience. Why does it always have to be instant gratification versus catastrophe around here???

Yes if people use common sense then i'm sure it would work perfectly, but lets face it..Would you credit 100% of the GW community with the common sense that has been so generously bestowed upon you?
If ANET had any common sense they would have known this system was utter BS before they started it.
Here's to the GW police state.....may we all play quietly and peacefully.
Yea right..............

I'm quite certain that your concerns will be a priority when Anet refines the /report system this week. Just be patient.

Me, I think the report system is bringing a modicum of sanity to random format PvP. I had given up on them because of the amount of sheer abuse, both of mechanics and other players. I applaud the community trying to police their own. Give it a month or two and we just might see that rarest of sights, a well behaved PvP community.
The sort of person who considers "Mega Fail * 10^10" as brilliant commentary will feel the community's policing the hardest, no doubt, but they were going to have to grow up eventually one way or another.
