Factions was my favorite campaign.
I liked the asian theme, really great since i'm fond of asian stuff.
I don't care about the locked doors, after all i prefer going in the storyline than running.
The areas were cool, and yeah i did like kaineng even with the ''petare'' look.
Even that i don't really like pvp AB's are fun to me.
Missions are fun.
The only thing i dont like is that to get masters in some missions is timed.

It will be kinda bad if cantha wouldn't exist in GW2, but it could be great if cantha in GW2 it's in an expansion.

okay now pinch me if im wrong .... it doesnt say directly that Cantha wont be in GW2 this is just our assumption, it states that its been isolated since the time of turmoil and that as for the survival theyd have to assume the ppl followed their dictators lead but due to the ships, travel in the waters seems neigh possible. which means they are there we just have no contact. Not to mention the kurzs and the lux both crushed which probably means they unified under one common clause " to destroy the emporer" ... Whos to say that there wont be a quest that reopens communication with cantha and makes it explorable in some fashion or another. My thought was that Cantha would rise to become the eventual superpower of the three continents between Elona Tyria and Cantha as it seems that the turmoil that faced the rest of the world was eased in cantha due to the ruling body at the time. And by im sure some powerful benevolent force was saved as a haven its own right. Another thing was technically Cantha's story with shiro doesnt tie into the closeness of elona and tyrian backround which is why im assuming most think its not goin to be in gw2 as gwen proph and NF all seem to be based around a more coincidental storyline, i sayd if theyre gonna make GW2 the game its supposed to be dont count Canthans short yet. Plus whos to say u wont have to make it to cantha to be safe from the terrors of the dragons..lol theres alot to build off of in their story and would make for a truly diverse 3 d world of unimaginable travel... one option they have in gw2 is since campaigns are no longer seperated they wont need a expansion to include them but rather go further on an expansion and open up new areas like they wanted to with this one...

I found Cantha, and the Imperial City a nice change. I got Prophesies when it came out and rapidly got bored of the mind numbing scenery. Lots of blasted desert in old ascalon for what seemed like an age...The Kryta brightened things up a little until >> Crystal desert. More boring scenery.

Missed out faction and brought NF >> MORE DESERT! I was truly gutted when I got to Kamadan and found out it was another load of Desert.

Now PLEASE GOD let Cantha be a part of the GW2 story somewhere along the line. Cantha has some good scenery that isn't blasted desert, and the KC area was a great change to the feel of the game. I liked having the city to run around and really didn't want to end up in some poxy desert/barren wasteland.

I vote for Pre-Searing Ascalon to be most of GW2, with forest, rivers, heath land and other temperate scenery. Running through a wooded copse to arrive in a small town would be wonderful!

Leaving Cantha out would be foolish.

I think factions is the best campaign, I loved the setting, storyline and the missions, especially when compared to the other campaigns.

And it has the best armors and weapons.

Just a random note:
When anyone say they like Asian culture, check to make sure that person isn't meaning, "I watch Anime, thus, it must be the entirety of the Asian culture. This means I LOVE Asian culture and I know all about it."
Fail. Anime doesn't even cover Japanese culture.
And no, buying excessive anime and manga in Japan would still make you a freak.

@Factions:
Need more ninjas (if you are Luxon, you are a Pirate as well).

It is so bad. I can't even bring myself to run another character through it. Mainly the mission design is made by people who apparently forgot what the game was because they decided a thousand enemies per encounter was the norm. And it doesn't help that the story sounds like it was recorded by local street bums at the last minute. The artists come through in some areas as usual but the rest of that campaign is pretty craptacular.

Guys I'm sorry, but "asian theme" and "boring scenery" are not the reason an expansion fails. I don't think that factions was a failure. NF surely was.
Let me explain.
The nightfall professions were added, excuse me, because anet felt like they had to add professions. They didn't have any good idea for a profession. There was no need for new professions. So what do they do? Let's add 2 random profession that add COMPLETELY NOTHING NEW (and I don't consider dervish forms new) to the game, except 200 more skills that require balancing? (the same thing goes for factions, but in a lesser extent. Assassin, although it was poorly implemented, was something new. Ritualists did offer something new).

Heroes = failure. In PvP, heroway was a disaster. The PvE has become single player. What about the TEAMPLAY ORIENTED GAME?

About the HB vs. AB issue, well, they both suck

Nothing new? So reducing the damage taken by your party by ~82% isn't new?

I hate it when people ignore Paragons and go straight for the Dervish. It's like Paragons don't exist while they completely own Pve.

Firstly, clearly Anet are keeping Cantha open for either the end of GW2, or for further expansions. Secondly, yes, Factions sucked. It was meant to be a 'PvP' expansion, but all it gave was glorified PvE in the form of Alliance Battles.

Also, EOTN was the one that sucked. Anet even added a clause to their EULA saying that you couldnt get a refund...THE DAY EOTN CAME OUT.

Anyway, GW2 will have Cantha at some point, it just depends when.

With heroes, it's not worth mentioning.
Prophecies didn't have heroes either but for some reason unbeknowest to me, it's still everyone's favorite. I personally hate Prophecies but that's another story.

Anyway, back on topic. I think the reason most people hate Factions is because of the locked gates, and in some cases, the fact that it's the shortest and master's missions are based on time (Except for a few). As for the requiring faction to progress, that's easily done by the quests and AB. I had no problem so I don't know why everyone complains about that.

Factions is my fave campaign of the 3. So I really don't know why everyone hates it so much and loves Prophecies. lol

lol. They wouldn't need a big huge searing to burn down Kaineng City bwahaha, jsut a few sparks, then goodbye KC.

I liked prophecies. It was gradual. It had the best faces and hair imo, and there was variety to the land and architecture. And nothing was really bleak except Ascalon and Ring of Fire Islands. I find Kaineng City much more bleak and dreary then even Ascalon after the searing. I also like NF's storyline and some of its missions, but starting a new character on NF is a pain in the butt. And I agree, Paragons are awesome.

I personally thought factions worked(s) better then prophercies and NF on so many levels and ive played from the days before the battle ayles.

I agree the locked gates and limited open-ness is awfull, but the increased leveling speed, the access to max gear faster and the sheer playability of it kicks the ass of the other two.

The story line isnt as deep as prophercies and prophercie wins on that and it will always be the best one. But factions is (IMO) the best and most fun to replay.

Its not perfect, but it works alot better then NF IMO.

If Anet does exclude it from GW2, I think it will be a shame. I just hope they use some of the stuff they did in factions in GW2 like faster leveling and more fun missions.

I always create new chars in factions as apose to NF. Im yet to make a new char in NF at all.

I think Anet would lose tons of players from GW2 if Cantha was just forgotten and never implemented.

Here's the thing about Kaineng City that always made me think. Guild Wars is a medieval type setting game. You know, the swords the castles, the dragons, the heroes, the damsels in distress, things like that. Well why the heck do you have some gigantic city miles upon miles that never ever seems to end? It makes no sense concidering the time setting of Guild Wars, but I guess I'm getting too technical.

i found NF totally boring, terrabaed storyline, and heroes imo, ruined the game in a lot of ways. factions was, and always will be my fav story arc, and in fact, all of my proph chars were remade into canthans the day it came out. proph is nice and all, but way too long and drawn out, and gwen was.. ok. BMP is what matters :P

locked gates? lolz it takes about 8 hours to beat factions if you just blitz it, and even then, the missions are a lot more fun than NFs and most of prophs, so its not even boring.

Factions?
- Great theme song played at login screen when it's newly released.
- Introduce AB; an easy factions farming PVP arena
- Has the best looking armors ever
- Have the most interesting elite missions IMHO; Kanaxai and Urgoz

Factions?
- Not boring to me
- Henchmen were OK (but I concede that Heroes make it better [I use my own healers in Factions tyvm])
- What level gap? An average player would hit the mainland at ca. level 15 and finish leveling in Kaineng City with the quests there...
- No more quest glitches than other campaigns that I recall
- I *liked* the Afflicted. (You felt like you were doing them a favor by killing them.)
- Got issues with Mhenlo, eh?
- The timed Masters' missions were a bit lame, I will agree, and a slap at solo players in particular
- Asian concept, FANTASTIC
- Great eye-candy (comes after Kaineng City, though, I admit)
- I think Shiro is considerably harder than Abaddon, the Lich, or the Great Destroyer (although that is from a predominantly hero/hench-only player's perspective)

Factions was the most creative of the three campaigns, imho, and makes me pine somewhat for the now lost Utopia campaign, with its Mayan/Aztec New Worldish-type theme.

I got GW on release. I played it almost nonstop.

Factions was announced, something that would bring new content, new experiences, new places to visit.

We were so excited to play the preview event, our login screen changed, and we were able to make new professions!

Then the time came, and we were granted access to Factions, everyone in the world made an Assassin or Ritualist and started dancing in Shing Jea. OMG Napoleon Dynamite dance! WTF!

I can't speak for everyone, but at least me, who had been playing since launch was a little put off by these new professions. I have so many fond memories of Guild Wars (I refuse to refer to it as Prophecies, it's Guild Wars and my box doesn't say Prophecies on it.) and it seemed to me that Factions was straying a little too far from the tried and true for my tastes.

I went back to Guild Wars and haven't looked back.

To me, Factions seems like a half baked attempt at something that could have been much better, I'll take my Guild Wars to go please, see you all in Pre.

Dear sir, I daresay you're cooler than Jesus and I agree with this completely. After months in Prophecies, Factions was a breath of fresh air and I loved every minute of it. Factions is my favorite area for leveling characters. The multitude of relatively easy quests with high XP rewards is very handy. Especially for building survivors. It's also the section of the game that I beat first normally. Of my 20 toons, 12 of them have completed it, 9 of which hold protector. ^.^

I don't have a favorite campaigne, per say. I like them all. Yes, the locked gates in Factions could be annoying, but for those of us that prefer to play the game in order and don't do a lot of initial exploring it wasn't a big deal. Seeing people get ran everywhere in Prophecies drives me nuts. Why create the character if you're not actually going to spend the time to play it? Seems pointless to me. Anyway, the issue with locked gates was fixed in NF. Anet did learn from that mistake. I'd say it might be possible to ask them impliment this in Factions now, but that's just not fair to the people that had to 'suffer' through the locked gates to begin with.

As for the requiring faction to move on in the story line....well it made sense. You needed to 'prove' yourself to the side you wanted to join. Fraternities, Sororities, Clubs, etc all do crap like this in real life. Obviously the concept isn't new. They gave you quests to get the majority of the faction if you wanted and repeatable quests that weren't overly hard to finish out. Or there was aspenwood, quarry (at one point ppl did play this), and AB. It's not like they didn't give you options on how to get the faction.

I hope Cantha isn't completely forgotten in GW2. I will miss it. It has some pretty spots. Besides, the sprawling slum is an occassional nice change from all the friggin open landscapes. The beautiful scenery is nice, but there comes a time when it's just too much. =p

I love Factions! As a stand alone campaign, it was great. When you bring an established character, player, and guild into the mix, then I definitely understand why ppl dislike it.

And, for the people that complain about how easy Factions is, stop "asking" us in game to help you with any of the below missions to help "power" level you through that "easy" campaign.

Captured Son
Defending Fort Aspenwood
Raisu Palace
Tahnnaki Temple
The Eternal Grove
Unwaking Water...

and our favorite...

Shiro!

Last but not least, Urgoz is dead for a reason...

most people cannot complete it... try that one on for easy (But I love factions and will be running Urgoz this Saturday)

Hated Factions when I first went through it. Now I find myself spending a lot more time there than I do in the other chapters. I appreciate it a lot more now than I did.

Oh yes, there are things that could have been done better. For me it is the whole fleshing out of the Factions. I wish there were better rewards/consequences for being a part of a Factions. Getting discounts from a merchant is not that great of a reward.

But no, I don't hate Factions anymore.

The main reason I dislike Cantha is the design of all missions, which follows the same boring repetitive pattern: waves after waves of mobs coming from every direction, that you have to kill in the shortest time, mindless button smashing, limited or zero strategy.

Timed missions are FTL (and just yesterday I got Legendary Guardian finishing Cantha). This is the main flow in the (poor) design of Factions campaign.

A secondary flaw is that the campaign has nothing "epic" in the story.

In both Prophecies and NF, you start in a place and after a long journey and adventures through various environment arrive in the most distant and hostile place, which you could have never imagined at the beginning.

In Cantha, you arrive in Kaineng and finish the game in the building just around the corner ...

I hated Factions at first but grew to love it with time. Its the best place to level toons. I refuse to go through Kryta with anything less than a level 20 with an elite or two under my belt ever again. *lol* The worst thing about Factions is the missions where Togo and/or Mhenlo must survive. I've gotten to the end of Vizunah Square so many times only to fail the mission because they waded into the crowd of Afflicted and got owned by the explosions.

Personally, Factions is my fave. just loved every minute of it and I always complete it on my chars. The one I hated most was NF. The only interesting place was the RoT, because it was different to the giant sand bowl that is the rest of the game. But, each to his own I guess.

That must have taken a lot of thought from that brain of yours. You should go give it a rest, and take it out less often.

When it comes to the discussion of no factions like content in GW2, I have no problem with that. I like Tyria and Nightfall because the content wasn't stereotypically made, and had a large edge of actual creativity to it. Come on. Factions is China/Japan implemented to a game world. There's no denying that by any extent.

The campaign itself was nice, but I'll be glad to see more original content in GW2.

how about less insult, more in depth look at the game, guy.

Elona is 100% africa, with strong egyptian overtones in one part, and Kenyan in another.

also, imo, proph, being primarily a somewhat bland, white race, seems to be European of the sorts, strongly influenced by castles, and the lore of the story.

do you look at the game? or just pass judgement based off of what you see others saying?

Elona? Well, you've got me there. It is very close to Africa in land type and races, but not nearly as bad as factions is. Plus the Realm of Torment, so I left it alone.

Prophecies? Not even close to Europe... The whole white race domination thing is a pretty weak argument, and castles? Castles have a huge influence on many games that are based off magic/fantasy. Start looking at them. Prophecies is anything but Europe. The lore? How on earth could even support this argument? Oh wait, you can't, because the lore has nothing to do with European History. The Charr? The Mursaat? Yup, real close to Europe.

Factions? 100% China/Japan. The monster/town/NPC names even match the stereotype. The only way to actually see more of those two is to go there.

To answer your last question, I pass judgement by a balance of both. I suggest you go do some reading on the lore of prophecies before spouting off things like that though. Don't tell me to look more in depth at the game when you obviously haven't scratched the surface, guy.

So because it is based on an asian theme that makes the game bad?... I mean I agree theres no denying that cantha is based on an asian theme... heck the game is even advertised that way. Why does having an asian theme make the game bad though?

When you say the realm of torment isn't very african... well I sure don't see very many goth asians everyday of the week(kurzicks). Nor do I constantly see pirate asians with solid oceans everywhere.

I personally think factions was the weakest of the three campaigns... but to use the asian theme as a weakness of the game just annoys me...

The Good Stuff about FA:

- Sins and Ritus
- Celestial/Zodiac Weapons, still some of the most pretty weapon sets in GW
- Certain Skills, which improved heavily the Core Class Meta
- New Pets
- Kuunavang minipet *g*
- New Elite Areas

he bad Stuff about FA:

- those stupid locked gates everywhere
- stupid story, could have been much better and more about Dragons maybe cause cantha being the Land of Dragons
- too short anyway ..only 13 Missions oO ...around 20 woul'd have ben much better
- too quick gainage of Exp through Quests
- stupid annoying system for Missions, which are all only about Time ..to receive master >.> how borign is that please
- annoying too big monster groups very often, espcially in Kaineng City around Amfah/jade jerks/afflicted

- last mention being the most annoying enemies of the whole game..ever getting nuked by them, when they die and you have no way of protection vs it... in prop you could at least make something, to increase ur defense power vs. such special overpwered abilities ofsuhc special foes.
Id wished ever, there would be also something ingame, to increase your defense vs those explodes...because when you have too much around you and too much die simultanous..then your insta dead >.< nuked by their explodes

- too less Factions...only 2 factions was dumb....would they have given the game from the start on like 4-5 different factions, than the whole thing would have been much better ....unused space is on the world map enough ..to place on it more locations for other factions ...

In the age of Asuran teleperters, what kind of noob would use a boat for travel?

asurans have never been to Cantha, considering the majority of humanity has never seen an asuran a new race would just lead to conflicts.
Not only that, but have the asuran ever used a boat? They never lad to leave tyria nad they have always been underground.

You have to be in that area to set up an asuran teleporter >.<
