Its just another achievement.

Ive won halls with hero way and a 0 fame monk who could roll the build I needed and healed brilliantly.
He was a natural and immediately knew what he was doing.
I have never ever won halls with R6+ pugs, but have a few times with better ranked players then me when I made a friend from [koss], but after he quit the game, I fully gave up at HA at rank 7.
I want to be able to play HA solo again and grind fame.
I respect people with higher ranks then me. I saw a GWAMM put on a rollerbeatle tonic, and ran around spamming his / her tiger and fired a golden Z spear emote into the tiger.
I followed the person around saying things like
'OMG you're awesome, I wish I had R9 and GWAMM'
I was also the only person there that was interested (a busy district in kamadan).

I have 12 fame what is to stop me from getting in HA group if you have a FoTM build anyone will take you.I haven't played in HS in sometime but I imagine it is more or less the same.

The flashy emotes are cool, but anything lower than a Tiger is just lame to look at and makes me feel like the user is immature. Tiger itself is mehable, but a Phoenix still catches me off guard when I see it. I got ranked with it last RA/TA weekend and didn't realize what it was for a few seconds.
With the argument of experience and stuff, I can understand that some of them are a lot better tuned to PvP than I am, but the way that most of them come off makes me not care.
I expect people to have a reasonable ranking in PvE ranks if they're going to use the skills (i.e. +5 Asura in NM, +8 in HM, etc.).

rank is the spice of life. Everyone knows that everyone plays the game these dsys just to work on titles now, because the game is in a bit of a stale state after 3 years.

No, I don't chastise GWAMMs or obsidian armor wearers or generic chaos gloves/blindfold/whatever else black armor wearers. You know why? Because they're just THERE. If someone displays their title...fine. It's when someone runs up to someone else, doesn't even have to be me, and flashes their annoying /rank in their face that starts me off. they have their hero title, that's fine. If they want to show people what they've accomplished...that's enough. /ranking random people, running into a crowd and doing their rank spin, screwing up peoples' screenshot ops, in general making themselves a nuisance is what gets me started.
Nutshell: there is NO REASON to gloat a PvP title in a PvE outpost unprovoked, which is what EVERYBODY who /ranks in PvE outposts does. So I call them on it.
I laugh every time someone pulls the "jealous" card. If I wanted R12, I'd have PvP'd from the start and I'd probably be there. If I want any /rank, I'll go work for it. I won't cry because someone else already has it.
EDIT* Reading the recent posts above me, I saw an instance of a R9/GWAMM doing his thing in an outpost. IMO...from the way it was described, that's fine. Having fun with it, not showing off for the sake of showing off. Being original about it. I have no problems with that kind of thing. But when someone just doesn't like the look of you, or decides that he wants to flex his e-peen at you, runs up standing on top of you twirling his dumb ass around with the tiger in front of him...that's just annoying, ridiculous and immature.

My opinion is that rank is only quantifies your experience; it does nothing to qualify that experience or the player. Many people use it as a very quick means to discriminate against inferior players; greater experience often leads to greater proficiency.
Greater experience does not equal greater proficiency. Outside of selection criteria, rank is only a number that strokes one's ego and is ultimately nothing if one doesn't back it up; rank does not make a person superior to anyone.
That said, rank can be a formidable achievement. I don't mean that you should prostrate yourself before ranked people, but some ranked players are helpful, nice and competent folks; they deserve respect for those qualities.

Not even gonna bother reading thread... just by the title you can see a flamefest coming. More complaining about not getting into groups. Everyone else says "HA is dead", "HA'ers sucks", "Rank means nothing".
The word "Rank" should not be allowed in a thread title because it's an auto flamefest. If you wanna see what people have to say about ranking in HA, use search...
On topic for now... yes it's true that rank9+ doesn't necessarily mean good group. Whenever a friend drags me into a r9+ group there's always at least one person (usually more) that doesn't know what they are doing.
People still rank because R9 means you at least have some experience, there is a much better chance of a decent group than if I went and pugged in an R3 group.

I don't rank spam people at all, but I don't really care when other people do. You shouldn't, either. If you're bad at PvP then either stop caring enough to get bothered by it or actually go and play Guild Wars (not Farm Wars). "Guild Wars was built from the ground up as a PvP game." -ArenaNet Representative, Factions World Championship.

It means nothing to me. As long as the person is competent I don't care what rank they are. I don't even check it.
nightwatchman
If rank means nothing, why are people moaning that they can't get into ranked teams.
Find 7 other unranked people and play. If rank makes no difference you should do great. If you're not doing great, then maybe rank makes a difference after all.

I though this one summarizes what people think:
-->
-->
-->
The other elite PvE players:
"LoL, noob! You don't have a FoW armor!"
Just like other PvP players:
LoL, noob! You got no rank! Go play PvE!
On the social side both sides have the same amount of idiots and flamers. There is no better side! There is only a side that you are more attracted to because of the gameplay elements.

Rank = grind, unfortunately. It's quantity of play, not quality necessarily.

what I saw is someone didn't show their rank and they LFP with Rank.
I asked leader to show but they didnt, and kicked me out.
So many people maybe only Rank 3 and they LF Rank 9... funny...

Or is this the famous 'I'm good at it but I'm not interested' thing again?
Shuuda
Rank is usually an indication of how much one has played HA, and nothing more. That doesn't necessarily equate being skilled in HA, for example, fame farming and gimmicky builds.
Shadow Slave
Rank means something as long as you can see past the 'he definitely must have Ebayd / Gimmicked / etc...that title or rank' mentality...
At the end of the day, there are people out there who have genuinely earned their titles and are genuinely good players because of this fact.
You'd be a fool not to recognise this imo ~ meh
That being said, every man and his dog running round with a rank or title isnt an immediately good player ~
Friends list is my friend. I know a fair few PVErs who can hold their own against your average PVPer - but have no interest in titles.
(Similarly I have no interest in grinding the majority of PVE titles...but I can whack a Destroyer with the best of 'em)
I would choose ranked players over unranked players in most forms of PVP if I was pug-ing...probably still ask them to ping their build...and let their gameplay prove the rest.
If they are terribad, you know not to play with them again.
If they are terrigood (?) ..awesome -

Also - you can all say "lol r8 LF rspike", but that R8 player will be better than your average player. In fact, they'll be significantly better. They'll also be better than the "Well, I've played since Beta so I know this game completely" player.

Rank is not an indicator of skill, but experience.
You would obviously take a higher ranked player because they seem more experienced, even if they Swayed their fame. Most unranked players probably won't be better than a ranked player. Although this is in terms of PuGs.
I mean, I used to have the same logic thinking I was extremely good at the game. I wasn't, and I still have to get better, like everyone else. Don't complain about rank discrimination, and think like them; "would I take someone who seems less experienced?". Less QQ more pew pew. (I love that saying)
English Warrior
Interesting Topic but as i think rank means nothing depending on the build as a r10 sway player may not be as skilled to play as a r10 balanced player tbh the only rank that means something to me is champ points and they are sold and farmed aswell /agree with tyla less QQ more PEW PEW!
pigdestroyer
It means nothing to me, Im rank 9 and some of my most trusted guildmates when it came to pvp (gvg mostly) were r3-r4.
hint: ranked people mostly play with their friends, guildies etc. If you are ranked but don't know anyone you'll end up in groups almost as bad as unranked pugs.
