Mad H/H behavior after the update?

I .. might just be overlooking something, but I can't seem to disable hero skills. I've been trying to find it in "controls", but it's not there. My friend can't disable their skills either.
They didn't remove this, did they? :|

A red circle with a line through it will appear over the skills icon, and the hero will not use the skill until you manually click it, or shift-click it again to re-enable.
Is this what you are looking to do? (It still works for me, thank goodness...)

Yeah, that's not working for me. D'oh. I'll get around it sooner or later. :\

I've had to set my melee heroes to DEFEND, and that has helped. But, yes, just after the update (and even after the 2nd "fix" update), they would charge after any red dots on my radar, about double what my aggro bubble was. And, as usual, they like to go after the target the furthest away!
Miss Persephone
As far as I can see, its not just heroes, henchmen seem to be affected too.
I've been vanquishing Elona H/H on and off for the past few weeks and I always use the same team setup; after the update, I've had problems with the Holy Henchman aggroing stuff faaaar away that I havn't called or even tabbed targets to. I used to get through the vanquishes easily but its taking a lot longer because of all the over-aggro and DP I'm getting.

Last night. Vanquishing Elona. Taking a rest break. Just sitting there. Devona starts to "run out/run back" 3 or 4 times and then decides to commit and play Kilroy running solo to a mob 1/2 the radar away.
Overall, not impressed with this "monster update".

A Guildie and I were trying the 6 hero discordway last night and we kept having to jumpstart Discord. It seemed that the heroes wouldnt touch it unless I cast it for them first. After I cast it for them they were fine but this was a serious pain in the ass as I had to really micro manage them at the start of every battle.

Argh, hh nightmare last night. Targetting is completely messed up. Heroes don't want to lock on to targets at all. Not that the UI doesn't physically do it, but that the heroes will just continue attacking what you are - or at least mine did. I had to stop, attack the target, then go back to what I was doing to get the lock to take. My monks wouldn't heal at all while flagged :S In fact no one would do much of anything while flagged. And at 10% health and poison degen Dunkoro was casting PS and WoH on heroes with full health bars.
I'm lazy. I don't like to micro manage my heroes, I DO do it when necessary but they aren't working when I don't micro manage, and they aren't working when I do. Crazy is an understatement. I'm not fond of repeating missions and bonuses because I miss them when the hench won't heal the npc, or won't take out the target I lock them on.

Not sure if it's mentioned or not but the aggressive setting can make your monks over-extend into front line territory, all the way out to the edge of spirit range. Friend of mine found out the hard way.... in FoW.

I've noticed that certain heroes/henchmen seem to be worse than others. Vekk and EOTN's Mhenlo and Devona are by far the worst. Vekk will run right into the middle of a skirmish, regardless of flagging, Mhenlo doesn't seem to do anything and, as others have noted, Devona runs right into the fray before pre-protting/spirit placement. As of this writing, I am delving into Rragar's Menagerie on NM and am having huge difficulty. I have the right builds for the right situations, I flag my heroes/henchmen as needed and I call the right targets. Even though I'm skilled at this game and have the right strategies/setups, I feel as if I'm being punished for playing alone. This AI 'feature' NEEDS to be fixed. I'm just about inclined to say that GW has the worst AI in any game I've played.
Funny how we haven't received any word about this from Regina, yet the MOX thread received so much attention.

I think they're trying to take the "There is no problem" approach on this one, sadly. Even if the AI was meant to act this way originally, I think that alot of us just simply got used to how they acted before the update and in my opinion they should have stuck with that.

I can say that there is definitely something wrong with the heros and henchies. At first I thought maybe I was just being paranoid, but really...it is rediculous. Was doing a few Canthan quests last night and noticed more odd behavior. For one, the healer hench ran FAR out of range to save the life of an injured Canthan guard...aggroing a group of Afflicted in the process. The h/h REFUSE to attack my called target (I am a monk, going for survivor...I'd rather not have to run in and draw aggro to myself before the h/h wake the hell up...I can be JUST out of aggro range, and call again and again, and the h/h just stand there. The only ones that seem to attack a called target are the Rangers. The rest just stand there picking their noses. MMs are messed up. They dont attack....staying way back, thus, so do the minions...making the minion wall not much of a wall.
I KNEW there would be problems when I saw all of those AI updates. My FIRST thought was "Oh no, here we go...". They should not mess with something if they don't know what the hell they're doing...
ANET Employee 1: "hmmm...looks like we screwed up hero AI with the last update"
ANET Employee 2: "Shhh, shut up, man! Here, let's give them a new hero!"

when your N/Rt healer tries to tank rather than avoiding combat there is a problem.I vanquished flame temple corridor and dragons gullet yesterday with a MoW that wanted to run off everywhere and even noticed once or twice minions unwilling to move (ie:they ran forward, chickened out,ran back and more than likely got MoW picked on)

at the very least, a "we're working on it" or "we're not working on it"...would provide us something to go on.
(and if A-net reverts the changes, as Guru is my witness, I do so solemnly swear to never, ever, ever QQ about the H/H AI ever again. I promise.)

I was doing something h/h the other day and Devonna went nuts - charging into a group that was far away...and in the opposite direction from where I was going. -_-

Heck, if they are going to give us this great new "Hero AI", we might as well be offered a Rurik henchie since they all act like Leeeroy Rurik now.

I hope you have a mysterious new target audience for Gw2, ArenaNet, because you're certainly screwing over your current customers.

I can't really say that I've noticed any usual behavior since the update, at least nothing of the sort all of you are experiencing.
May have something to do with mostly having been playing my W wielding the Mo rod or my ranger, so the casters are staying bunched around me. Everyone seems to focus on the targets I call, no one runs off to agro distant mobs, everyone holds to the flag. Strange.
On a couple of occassions, when I had called a target only to step back, breaking the targeting, when another mob was approaching, I did notice Nika run off anyway to the target I called, but I can't recall if that was before or after the update.
Maybe I treat my heroes and the henches nicer than you people do.

I had a few issues, but for the most part my Heros have been behaving very well the last few days.

Last night, I actually had Devona run off the radar to attack a small mob. In doing so she managed to agro two other medium sized groups of mobs. She ran so far that goups gave up while chasing her back to me when I pinned everyone down near me! Once she reached the flag she then runs back to the small mob and attacks them again! Allmost three quarter of the radar from us and well outside of agro. Fixed range, looks like they broke it to me, at least for Devona.
ALF71BE
Yeah I've had this leeroy jenkins melee problems too, mostly with Devona, ocasionally with Koss, Morgahn and Melonni.
Not only that, but MoW refuses to use Enfeebling Blood on everyone and everything like he used to, and the other day I was capping skills at Hell's Precipice, the f*cking four legged beast (err, Zhed), let me die against the Sparks, and never throwed me any prot, not even when I told him to.
The former problem doesn't matters for the most part of the game but if we get to a dangerous spot, it can be annoying. For example, the part in Unwaking Waters where you cap Ride the Lightning... That aggro is big and when you wipe you return to outpost -.-.
ANet, ffs, fix it!

Here's another vote for rolling back the hero AI "upgrade". I just had Devona run three aggro-circles to aggro a mob and train it back to me. If I wanted that kind of stupidity I'd PUG.
Also I micro-manage quite a bit, and often get that heros refuse to use skills even when explicitly ordered to.
ROLL IT BACK, ANET!

I had a little time to play today so, I thought I would go elite capping and made sure to take a couple of said heroes listed in here and Devona for sure. I had no problems at all with them.
I was even in some very close spots where one false step would have agro'ed another group and none of the heroes or hench went for them or did anything out of the ordinary. Maybe they have added a new update but, I didn't see any unusual behavior at all today.

My bet goes to radar-genitals. And don't forget the pentagrams, swastikas, and smily faces...followed by mad scribbling and pinging. Just add that and we'd truly have a PuG-like experience.

Hmm, I'm wondering if this is related to the control problems I'm having. I've just lay it down to my keyboard being silly - which wouldn't surprise me, but recently playing my assassin if I don't have enough energy to start my chain I just keep running straight past the target until I regain control of her via the mouse and reselect the target and press space.
This could just be a keyboard issue. However it happens ALL the time on my assassin in the situation described above. I'll try on another of my characters when I get back from work, probably my war, my ranger, and a caster to see if the same thing happens.

I've noticed some quests that are broken by the borked H+H AI. For example, the H+H will try to attck the char that are following Vael during "Plan A."

flags are almost completely useless now....they seem to be only there for my own screenshots since the heroes cant seem to see them anymore.

Okay, this is becoming serious.
I was playing yesterday in Charr homeland with my 3 heroes, Pyre, Olias and Ogden and 4 henchies, Lina, Menlo, Zho and Aiden (okay, don't laugh at my 3 healers please).
While I was playing, i noticed in my party that Menlo died (well he is always dead most of the time). Then suddenly I died (not new. i already got my LS so i don't mind dying anymore). But after waiting for almost a minute, no one rez me (not even heroes who have rez sig). and even after the enemy group are already did, still no one rez me so i started recording using my cp (i have it it my cp now but i cant upload here in the office).
They rez Menlo but still didn't rez me. Waited around 3 minutes before they rez me.
So, on next group i intentionally died if i can "re-do" the situation. AND IT HAPPENED EXACTLY THE SAME WAY.
Can you please let me know if i was just unlucky or there is something wrong with my h/h?

well just look at the picture and laugh, i went to get a drink, and what do you know, little thom ran ahead into a group of forest minataurs .... then alesia ran to rez, and livia ran to heal alesia.... is this some kind of joke?
look at picture, see how they are all out of my agro circle, no one (i mean me and the other hench) else is doing anything.

You can remedy this by not taking Warrior hero and hench.
They obviously wanted us hero/hench players to have a pug group w/mo handicap by making the warriors play like a w/mo with mending Frenzy and heal sig.
So if you bring a warrior, you now get a pug group W/mo.

actually, lol, sorry, but I am getting use to using this type of aggroing hench hahaha, just as long as they don't go farm for themselves when I am away i am fine with them, cos ESC keys - cancel action use it to control them, also, try this, select target, space bar x 2, once you see those 2 morons ran ahead, back arrow keys, and then ESC and they will pull the lot back to you.

Now, this is getting bizarre.
This morning, while out doing the four Charting the Jade Sea mappings on my ranger, I experienced the exact *opposite* of what's been discussed here.
When I was using a longbow (or even a recurve, which I normally use, while standing on a slope shooting down, so the range was increased), unless I specifically called the target, the H&H would simply stand bunched around me and make no move to engage the mob I was shooting at.
If my attack happened to pull them closer, into the agro bubble, then the H&H would start fighting and then return to me when the mob was dead.
If another mob approached into the minions' agro bubble before they had a chance to return to Olias (I'm thinking primarily of the Island Guardians and the little circling groups of Rot Wallows), the minions would run to them while I was lobbing arrows but the H&H would just stand around until I called a target.
At one point, we approached an IG from behind and above and when I started shooting at it, the IG seemed totally oblivious to the fact that I was attacking him/her/it and just stood there, never once attempting to heal itself.
When the 2 wallows at its side died, the IG turned around and tried to cast rez twice, which I interrupted both times but still seemed oblivious to being attacked and when it died, I got 232 XP, just as if I had flagged the H&H far enough away that their names grayed out.
I have sometimes noticed a slight tendency towards this behavior when using a longbow but this was just ridiculous.
I could get Koss to run down to the mob most of the time but he frequently would start running towards them, then start back, then start towards them again, then back again, like he couldn't make up his mind.
I do have all the heroes set on guard but have never seen this type of behavior to such a degree.
If Koss decided to attack, the hench healers would move close enough to heal him and maybe lob off a couple of attacks, but I'd see Souseke just standing beside me, twiddling him thumbs.
I had to start moving a little closer to the mobs to get everyone to engage them.
This may actually have been going on for a while without my noticing it because lately I've gotten into the habit of calling targets more continuously than I had been in the habit of doing.
Very curious.
