Regarding the April 9 Game Update

A remarkable amount of people complained because there was no info on GW2, so they screamed for more content. Now more content is in the works and PVP has had the past I don't know...year of exclusive updates and developer work and PVE gets an elite tweak here and there.
It's one mere month for the PVE content and here's the shitstorm in full force, honestly over react more. I'm anticipating this update as I'm one of probably many who don't salivate over zkeys and grab as many accounts as I can, my storage and mules are packed and pvp only chars are here today gone tomorrow for me.I'm looking forward to this update and I'm probably not the only one. |

a nerf to [Cry of Pain] or [RoJ] would reduce farming/SC considerably (kill AoE dmg from CoP and reduce dmg from RoJ and job done as sliversin is now kind of slow due to dmg reduction whilst in SF even with Ural's + EBSoH)

I don't care about Storage updates. I care about SKILL BALANCES. Meta change, you know? How long will that Storage update keep people playing? A week? A day?
Skill updates make people return for much, much longer, and usually take less work than changing game's code to make storage better. |

Besides, a disc-plordsion discord team is waaay more overpowered, I can tell you that!

Glad that I'm not the only one who dislikes Anet's announcements.
Balance is more important than some extra storage. It's been 4 months since they announced the extra storage... It's not like the gaming experience gets less when you have to wait another 2 weeks. With PvP balance that's different. I don't know how they do it but they keep failing time after time.

Bleh ,as a PvE'r i like the skill updates , gives me a chance to try something different and keeps the game interesting especially if its a total skill redesign like [incendiary arrows].
It's also, to me , more important to regularly skill balance to keep pvp fresh and stop it being concentrated on a few core OP builds.
I'm pretty disappointed that something important like game balancing has been shitcanned while we still get eye candy like mini gwens and chochoRED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing bunnies...

April 9 happens to be my birthday, Im an old fart turning 40. My wish is to get something good from the x chest on the day. Going from rank 3 to rank 4 using 136 keys brought me 1 elite tome and 135 pieces of crap. A everlasting ppppleaaase?
apart from that I wasnt expecting more than the said updates for today. |
There are surprising number of us "oldies" playing GW :-) I turn 46 this year LOL!
Thanks to to Regina for the update. I agree that the big update should be the priority and I really hope we get somehting good to breath a bit of fresh life into the game.

The fact that time was spent on a particularly unfunny and rather irritating April Fool's 'Joke', and yet no time can be spent fixing perhaps 9 or 10 obviously OP skills, is, to be frank, an outrage. What's more, through these forums, through the balance forums, and through countless other media, the PvP community are telling the skill balancers exactly what to change. I am also lead to believe that a list of skill balances have already been drawn up, and yet 1 month has to be set aside in order for these skill balances to be put into effect. Surely it would be possible for these to be implicated in no more than a few days, and, it would undoubtably be possible for them to be implemented before the April mAT. It is unbelievable, therefore, that even a small number of skill balances could not be added to the game given a day or two's 'work'. Why the update has to be on this Thursday, and not next Monday, or even next Thursday, if there is some special significance to that day, is beyond me. It is not as if updates have not been delayed before.
I am also sure that there will be more than one element in the upcoming 'mega update' that will be completely useless and pointless, and ignored by nearly all of the pve, and pvp, community, that would have taken more coding time than a minor, or even perhaps major, skill balance. It is also, for want of a better word, irritating, that the sector of the community; the pvp side, is the most vocal, and most 'helpful' section of the community, and yet it has been completely ignored.
So, thanks for ignoring a major part of the Guild Wars community, I eagerly await this 'major update'.

I can accept no PvP balance, yeah, sure, fine, ArenaNet says it's difficult.
But how hard could it have been to just give Spawning Power a quick rework, or alter spirits a bit? No worries about it being overpowered - Perma Sins, MSDB Sins, SY/TNtF Paras, Dslash Warriors, etc, all make it irrelevant.
I'd have liked to see, say, Spirits become mobile, get three per skill, longer duration, say a few minutes or indefinite (or drastically reduced cast time and recharge), 60 AL, and 500-600 health. That would have been immensely fun.

Actually they do, it's just that you think they don't. Just a matter of understanding what's been said.
But you have to admit, 2 whole month for an update, it's only natural that people want good update. |
In my opinion they should go to pvxwiki and purposely break every build on there and then sit back and listen to you fanbois complain some more.
Edit i mis-quoted, the skills are already broken and that's why people use them, so i say break them even more and give me my skill I want
"Emit Boon" 15e, 30rec. For 20 seconds your enchantments last 100% longer and cannot be removed.

I wonder what it feels like for the developers to hear all this critisism, not just for this game but for most games. Being adults I'm sure they realise there is a silent majority that do enjoy the game (and hence play it..) but the minority of people who give negative feedback make the majority of the noise. I wouldn't mind betting that some of the developers currently working on GW2 are doing some voluntary overtime on GW1 for this update and I hope they know that there are many of us that are grateful for this.
Personally I'm looking forward to this update and I'll be grateful for whatever we are given (though of course I hope for many exciting things). It costs the company lots of money to create new stuff, even if it might seem quite simple to people not familiar with software development. Also the cost of running the servers is no doubt fairly substantial. Many software companies (*cough* EA *cough*) have a "ship and it's done" philosophy. Without a monthly fee it is unreasonable to make constant demands. Obviously it is important to Anet to retain players and get some new ones, mainly for future sales of GW2 I imagine, so it's not entirely a gift that they do more work on GW1, but it is quite like a gift.
Some people complain because, for example, they don't need more storage "so why the *** is anet doing this?!?!?!?! How dare they!!!!" What about the people that do want such things? We've all paid for this game and different people want different things out of it. The people that can't accept that some other people might be getting a benefit when it is something they personally don't like/don't need and make a big fuss do come across as quite childish.
And finally just a quick message to people saying stuff like "horrible game", "totally unbalanced", "boring", etc - why not play the better game you prefer? I mean if it's a case of a couple of changes you'd like made then for sure give constructive critisim, but when it gets down to the level of vitriolic insults it comes across as you don't actually like the game - so don't play it! If you do like the game then why are you pretending you don't like it? Either way you don't sound very logical, just childish.

Well, look at it this way. If they require more testing, the update must be big, and ANet must want it to be good, were everyone is happy (ofc, not everyone will be happy). But if it something big, maybe SF/CoP downgrading (not a nerf, just making it not the best to use) it.
Tbh, I play the game with minimal use of CoP and Shadowform, so a nerf to it wouldnt matter to me. And really, it would make the game a little bit better imo, bringing back some of the oldschool Physway etc... That would be an awesome update.

I think its funny, PvErs are here saying PvPrs complain about skill updates too much, but what happened when Ursan got nerfed? I can't remember seeing so many QQ threads about the same thing.
PvErs don't care about skill updates so long as their godmode builds aren't hurt, PvPrs just want updates so the game doesn't turn stale.
But, thanks for telling us, even if it is shit that theres no skill update this month...

hurraaaay, another month of unbalanced and boring HA ._. it's like 4 months now!
I do look forward PvE changes, I hope this will be a great update, but... it's just annoying.
and if something is bad only in HA, is it never going to be nerfed, cuz it's not affecting GvG? I'm talking about brainless IWAY that is AGAIN ruining fun.
person that accepted Ether Prism without PvP version of it should reconsider balancing skills in future -_- 3 seconds of almost immotrality and bunch of energy for healers every 15 seconds, combined with brainless locking warriors with interrupts on targets. trully brilliant meta. it works kind of EXACTLY the same like that build with Smiter's Boon - tons of healing, damage and brainless interrupts in GvG, that was nerfed in few days.
but hey it's just HA, not GvG, so who cares?!
if it's going to be like this all the time, when something major in PvE is going to be implemented I don't think it's going in right direction... and if Live Team updates are to be every 3-4 months I think I have my concerns justified.

TBH Anet I'd like to see a skill update which is actually good for the game (nerf Shadowform), no random buffs and nerfs.
I don't really care for the contents of the big update: those things won't really keep me playing. What keeps me playing is a balanced game (achieved through skill updates) or new content (as in new areas, but that's probably asked too much).

Sounds almost as if this month of no skill updates is a train-wreck in some people's lives. I'm not sure how they lived back in the day when skill balance was not a monthly update...
It's the 4th year of GW and they want to give a present to the GW community via a mini pet and new content. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

for those who keep asking for a date for the april update, expect April 30th. I say this not as a dig at updates being last minute, but an observation on Lynseys wiki Journal at the end of March where she said that the April update was only a month away. Logic follows that a month from the end of March is the end of April, April 30th being a Thursday.

So CAN we expect very considerable skill changes when this skill balance update comes?
And can we expect even more from the april update?
The way you are saying it makes it look like that we can, and you know how people react when updates are dealyed for little skill tweaks.
So i just want to understand what we are talking about.
Thank you.

I find this disappointing. Nothing more to say. Pressing PnH on recharge, buttonmashing lingering on recharge.

Hmm.. I do feel kinda snuffed. The current meta really needs a shift and I was getting quite excited about seeing what kind of skill updates were in store. I can understand the reasoning for not bringing the skill update this week as you have the biggun' coming next week, but I dont understand why (having, presumably, worked on the skill updates up to this point in the month - having only announced the cancelation today) the update has been cancelled altogether. Surely, if its almost finished, it could be released the week after next?
Meh, not toooo bothered. Just a little disappointed i guess!

I for one would like to see a nice, worth the wait, update and a perfect guildwars 2 then this constant QQ about skills. I'm sick of SF being nerfed and 'balanced' i'm sick of people moaning how boring GW is, how the meta game is broken. How the game is broken. Yeah lets cry out for more skill nerfs, i'm looking at you [RoJ] and [cry of pain]and break it even further. Whats laughable is the number of people who don't play who still moan.
Let Anet do their job. So you have to wait for another month for a skill balance? Big deal. I don't want to be waiting till 2012 for GW2.

People are always bitching wither the update is PvP wise or PvE wise, can't you guys be happy and thankful to the staff of Guild Wars? I am, I find most of their updates pretty awesome.
Edit: Just wait and see how many people will be thankful to the update and say Woooooooooooooow!!!

Skill balance makes the game fun, extra space in my storage doesn't make the game any more fun.
Crunk N Monkey
i always found that skill updates happen when they happen, they dont need to be every month, they just happened to be that way. im more interested in the HoM and Storage updates rather than the skill balances. I heard a rumor that the big updte was on the 15th, but i dont know how true that is. I feel that anytime between today and April 30th we will see the April update that we have been looking for.
Kronos Ledaloth
I think the best skill balanced is not to do in pve. Watch at IWAY....it's come back, and it ruined HA more. Do you think that Cry of pain or Roj are the main skills for the SC farm? lolz

....
How is working on a skill balance for GW1 going to delay GW2? That's gotta be one freaking amazing skill balance to do that, let me tell you.
You're sick of skill balances and nerfs? So.... you want to have the same game experience always, ever, forever? Never having to change up your bar and discover new ways of beating stuff? Well, sorry, not everyone wants such a boring game experience. I mean, PvE is boring enough already.
The 'gate meta' here is mainly GvG, where it just takes an hour of observer mode to see all the crap that's broken. It's easy enough for people to say "well, who cares, I hate pvp!". Great for you, nothing wrong with that. Your game experience is your own, and not the same as someone playing GvG everyday.
I think the main issue here is that it's things we need vs things that would be nice, but aren't necessary to ensure fun game play. Sure, we'll get more storage, but does it AT ALL change the way you put 8 skills on your bar? Nope. As it is, PvE is full of easy-win, AI-abusing crap like [RoJ]. Oh, no, don't touch my easy win, then I can't farm my face off in dungeons and FoW for my 18th set of FoW armor!!!!111 -_-
Finally, I'd wager that a lot of you crying now over 'who cares about pvp?' will be first in line later today to get your TRP from Kun Shao...
Yawgmoth
GW1 Live Team desperately needs a balancing person. Skill balance makes or breaks the game more than anything else, in both PvP and even PvE.
