The only defensive skill that a Warrior should carry, really, is Save Yourselves, and that's party defense, not personal defense.
Ideally the warrior is NOT soaking up damage; the Warrior is dishing lots of damage out. And by maintaining Save Yourselves while he does it, the Warrior ensures that the monks or ritualists can keep the party alive. As well as himself - if the monk is half-decent, then having recognized that the warrior has SY, the monk will make sure the warrior has protective spells keeping him safe due to how SY will make monsters prioritize the warrior as the target.
Why take Defy Pain and Endure Pain as a Warrior? They simply reduce the priority for monsters (meaning they attack other party members) and take slots that the Warrior could use for damage.
A PUG tank is basically a guy who sits there slapping monsters to little effect as they rip apart the rest of the party. A skilled warrior is carving into monsters with devastating results, meanwhile spamming Save Yourselves like the fist of the north star and helping keep the party safe.
You would not believe how important this role is, but seriously. The difference between the warrior being a tank and a damage dealer is frequently the difference between a slow failure and an effortless cruise through the mission.
(Also, Elementalists using elemental damage skills. Makes me rage because they're basically leeching off the group - elemental damage is shit in hard mode.)

Awhile back while in Lions Arch I was listening to local chat which is something I usually have turned off most of the time but I ran across I guy who was just cussing up a storm about how useless the Light of Deldrimore was. Myself I'm thinking Hmm..... this is a pretty useful skill so what's this guys hang up ? I whisper to him and say what's the matter with the skill ? To which he replys " I've been all over outside here and I can't find a Damn thing with this skill ". Now the skill doesn't say it's to be used in dungeons but this poor fella had been outside of Lion's Arch trying to find hidden treasure. Needless to say we both had a real good laugh once I explained how it was used.
and of course there was the one time I had someone in local chat asking about the frozen ecto plasms for the Wintersday events. Now everything he or she needed is right on Wikki but 1/2 the time these people are just too damn lazy to go read anything which really annoys me. I'm usually helpful and nice to new players but just had to be smart with this one because they simply would not shut up. I replied there was a quest during Wintersday that you could get which would allow you to un-thaw it and turn it into a real ecto. From local chat I then hear, " Yeah dude theres an NPC out on the Jarin Plains you need to talk to " back up from someone I didn't even know
and the one asking for help was like " thanks a lot guys " and shortly after that there was several LOLS, LMAO and what not from local chat. I never did hear from him again and although that was pretty rotten all I can imagine was that player thinking " I have an ecto here, ching ! " and sat there laughing.

Anyway, a properly tuned war can beat any ele damage-wise in HM and provide immense defense (SY) to the team.
That doesn't mean eles are useless in HM. I would rank damage dealing abilities of classes in HM as follows(*):
1. 100b/SY warriors, scythe sins
2. SS necros (MoP, barbs)
3. SS rits w/splinter support, D-slash warriors, Dervishes
4. Eles (fire, air, earth, water, in that order)
5. MM necros
6. ROJ monks (rank varies depending on balling)
7. VOR/ROJ/Cry mesmers (passive builds)
8. Splinter barrage rangers (rank varies depending on balling)
9. Paragons (but with mass shouts and in numbers, they can do much better)
* No discord caller shit assumed

But I still love to spiritspam the outcasts, and then see the deathhands (outcast necros) use chilblains and cultists fervor which makes them bleeding and poisoned. And THEN attempt to wipe it off on my spirits using Plague touch

First of all, Eles do almost no damage in HM with nukes. So, ranking them fourth with fire listed first is just ol' fashioned wrong. You use Air/Earth as utility in HM or you use your secondary. That's it.
Second, RoJ's new scatter rate in HM is ridiculous. You'll get maybe 1-3 enemies for around 1 second.
Third, run splinter barrage on a rit. Sooooo much better (not that anyone runs that anymore)
Fourth, paragons aren't meant to deal damage in HM. They're meant to be party support.
Lastly, you really don't seem to understand what's good in HM or at least, you haven't played the game in 2 years.

Our monk said that after he wouldn't remove hex from me when he was getting no pressure whatsoever, so I had to sit down and wait for Emp/IP to wearoff in what time a RTL ele raped me, then it was 3 vs 2, and the RTL got nerfed after taking of ours with them. A Healing Breeze Wammo and the Monk then fought against the lone ranger. The Lone ranger interrupted everything the monk attempted and killed them, and then proceeded to autoattack the Warrior to death after dshotting his healing breeze.
