UPDATE!
Went to the other Best Buy in town on the way home. Had the guy check the system. That particular store has 18 copies in transit. BB part no. ended in GW2 and the description line read 'Guild Wars F', which I'm assuming was 'Factions'. Said they'd arrive Friday morning at the earliest.
I got the same answer from the CompUSA next door.
And yes, I had a print out of the info and box from the GW site.

Wal-mart isn't lsited as a supported store for the preorder...sorry.
Anyway - Of ocurse here we have the thing where they act liek they don't even know what a computer is, but would still like me to preorder it. Got the same "WTF what you talking about 'preorder package'?" attitude though.

Does anyone know if they'll be releasing a Collector's Edition?
And if they are, will it include the same goodies as the pre-order package or different goodies? More extras? Less extras?

Gaile Gray has stated that they are trying to get one together but there are no further details at this time.

All right, I had to track down and find this. No idea why it's not posted on all the fansites. Why it's buried in a post on GWO and not on the official site or posted on their other Elite fansites. This could have saved some people a lot of grief... but hey at least I found it. This was posted on 2/11/06, so before the Feb. 28th release. Farther down still relates to it though answering questions such as how do I get early access, etc. From Gaile Gray:
Gaile Gray: I'll just reiterate the preorder process, and this will be for North America, because the European Preorder Package will be out after the FPE, as I understand it. Here are some suggestions:
Gaile Gray: I'll just reiterate the preorder process, and this will be for North America, because the European Preorder Package will be out after the FPE, as I understand it. Here are some suggestions:
- No matter when and where you preorder, get a receipt. It's that simple. Some stores track, some don't. The only proof that you have put down money on the game is by holding onto that receipt.
- Before preorder packages are offered, most retailers accept "preorders" without any deposit. If that's the case for you, I'd suggest you go to the store around the 28th, when the preorder package comes out, and ask to place a deposit on your existing preorder and get a copy of the package.
- If you have preordered already with a deposit, I would contact the store from which you preordered and tell them that you're aware that Guild Wars Factions will be having a preorder package on Feb 28th, and ask how you get a copy. You are entitled to the copy, in my opinion, and it costs the store nothing to give it to you. (Some store clerks may not be aware, our publisher, NCsoft, covers the entire copy of the preorder and the store loses nothing by giving you the copy to which you are entitled through an earlier preorder.)
- When the game comes out, if you've made a deposit, the amount of the deposit is applied to the purchase. If the game is $49.99, and you have paid $10.00, then you have a balance due of $39.99. If the game is on sale -- not likely at release, of course -- I believe you'd pay whatever the sale price is, minus the deposit.
- There will be an early access period for Guild Wars Factions. It will run 48 hours, but please note what that means: All players with a preorder copy and the special access key will be given a 24-hour head start on the game. They will then be able to play for up to 48 hours before they need to enter their retail access key in order to continue playing. That may sound confusing: 24 hours, huh? 48 hours, wha? What that means is, you don't have to rush out and get the game during your 24-hour early access period, you see? Go forth and play that day, knowing you have the next day -- release day -- to pick up your copy or to receive it from your shipper, if you ordered online. Upon getting the retail box, enter the retail access key, and you're set to go.
- If you find that a store is hesitant to handle this fairly, please politely ask to speak to a manager and explain the situation, that you chose his/her store to make the preorder, that you've placed a deposit in good faith, and that you'd be very grateful if they would give you a copy of the preorder. We cannot intercede, and we cannot provide preorder copies (with regrets) but if there were miscommunication issues, we would want to know about them and work with our retailers to assure that all goes smoothly.
- For Europe, we will have other, online means of preordering in order to assure access to the FPE. We'll have details on that very soon. But don't worry, Europeans will be able to participate in the FPE and the early access with their preorders!

Yeah I have a question.
When you add the factions CD key to your existing account will you be given more times to change your territory? I currently have 0 more times and Im stuck in euro status.

This entire pre-order thing has me absolutely dumbfounded.
So I read the press release, The pre-order package will be available in stores Feb 28.... awesome! I went to gamestop today and paid them 53 bucks, then I left the store with a little piece of paper that said what I baught and to call back in 2 weeks.... So....
Why 2 weeks? And what exactly was supposed to be available in stores yesterday? Surely not the piece of paper I have...
I would like to ask the question that will end all of my confusion
What are the material items that I will hold in my hand for 53 dollars? (a.k.a the Pre-order)

But for what exactly? I understand its the pre-order package but what is it? Is it the actualy game (box and all) as well as an extra box with the key allowing me to play 24 hours before it comes out as well as the cd with artwork and the tactical guide? If anyone could answer the question in the first post that would be great.

Since I don't know where exactly you live I posted both links (European and North American preorder).
There it says exactly what will be in the preorder package you bought.
Hope it helps.

That clears up a WHOLE LOT. I'll have to go down to EB and switch my preorder to the pre-order package.

just to point out that neither gameplay or game. net or amazon show the factions game as anything but the april 28th release date. Unless simply ordering that gives you the key early on

Put my $5 dollars down and asked about the pre-order kit. He said that they didnt have them yet but I would be called when it arrived. Also asked about the CE and was told if they did release one for Factions liek they did Chap 1 that I could just call and switch my pre-order no problem. Guess I got lucky and got the guy who actually knows what Guild Wars was. |

a) the game when it comes out
b) the preorder package when the store has it in stock
The pre-order package doesn't cost anything itself. The whole preorder thing is explained more fully in the post by Inde, quoting Gaile, which has now been moved to this thread
Trouble is, nobody seems to have the preorder package in yet.

Actually, I have no idea where everybody's gotten the idea about 28th of Feb. In the announcement at the login it clearly says it will be released March 31st.
The "real deal" (as in non-pre-order) however will be released April 28th, according to Gamespot. This would also explain why nobody's gotten their pre-order packages yet.
There will be a Collectors Edition for the pre-order too, or I will be very sad since I pre-ordered the CE a week ago.
This is apparantly what we'll get in the CE (no idea what is included in the normal pre-order though):
# 2 CDs
# PlayNC catalogue
# Guild Wars: Factions Manual
# Guild Wars: Factions Quick Ref Guide
# Plastic Collectable Security/Activation Card
# Ritualist Cloth Picture
# Guild Wars: Factions Desk Calendar
# Guild Wars: Factions Mouse Mat
# Guild Wars: Factions Sticker Set
# Guild Wars: Factions Artbook
# 7 Day Friends Trial Code
# 1 Extra Character Slot Code!! << I believe this is one extra on top of the other slots you get, meaning CE will have one char slot more than normal pre-order. I could be wrong though.

Joh,
While I don't have time to find it right now, I believe the announcement was made by Gaile. However, if you care to read this thread, you'll see that I had confirmation from Guild Wars support that this was the pre-release package release date.

I heard that a lot of stores wont have the pre-order package until friday morning...and I also don't know of anyone having it.
Tuesday i went to wal-mart and asked about it and they acted like complete idiots - like they had never heard of such a thing.
So i am hoping that this weekend i can go to best buy and get the pre-order package and go ahead and pre-order factions as well.

So the pre-order comes in after the Preview Event?
That makes no sense.
I contacted EB Games again, and they said it should be coming in this Friday.
I'll let you know what happens.

What we do know however is:
- The pre-order with no box, only serial, can be purchased from online retailers in europe starting the 3rd.
- The pre-order box can be purchased starting 31st of March in europe (you can pre-order this at some retailers, and it also comes in a Collectors Edition [which I of course ordered ] which supposedly gives you one extra char slot compared to the "normal" version of Factions)
- For america, it seems to already have been released. But since nobody's gotten their packages yet, I bet they'll arrive sometime soon.
- We will all have access to the beta weekend 24th - 26th, even if we didn't pre-order
Contents of the online pre-order package (no box, europe only):
- Beta Access Key
- Early access to the Factions campaign (24h before release)
- 2 new unique items. One for Assassin, one for Ritualist
- A "friend" key that gives one of your friends access to the Factions Preview Event on March 24th
Contents of the "normal" boxed pre-order package:
- Beta Access Key
- Early access to the Factions campaign (24h before release)
- 2 new unique items. One for Assassin, one for Ritualist
- A "friend" key that gives one of your friends access to the Factions Preview Event on March 24th (America only, since the european boxed is released after this event)
- A 14-day, 10-hour trial of Guild Wars (original Prophecies campaign) (America only)
- A tactical guide and quick-reference card, PDF in five different languages
- A CD that includes concept art, wallpapers, in-game movies, and Factions music
- A Guild Wars Factions poster (Europe only)
Contents of Collectors Edition pre-order package (Note: European since I can't find any information regarding the American one):
- 2 CDs
- Beta Access Key
- Early access to the Factions campaign (24h before release)
- 2 new unique items. One for Assassin, one for Ritualist
- PlayNC catalogue
- Guild Wars Factions Manual
- Guild Wars Factions Quick Ref Guide
- Plastic Collectable Security/Activation Card (most likely holding the beta access key listed above)
- Ritualist Cloth Picture
- Guild Wars Factions Desk Calendar
- Guild Wars Factions Mouse Mat
- Guild Wars Factions Sticker Set
- Guild Wars Factions Artbook
- 7 Day Friends Trial Key
- Key for Additional Character Slot
edit/ Thanks to new information that apparantly slipped my mind (SylverDragon's post below), the lists have been updated.
Joh
For some reason, the edit ended up a new post. o.O
Sorry about that

Although, it does not explain why the pre-order package is not out yet, at least I feel better that I'll get one as soon as it is out.
