Before all this happened, last month, while playing GW I couldn't enter certian zone. I could if I had my Norton Firewall down. I removed that and have had zero problems till about 2 weeks ago when all this started to happen. I'm removing all the debris of Norton hoping what ever kept me out is going to get removed...hopefully I can bring some insite. Wish me luck. Has anyone else had this problem before, where you could play just not in some zones?

Ok...what's going on? I haven't heard from you guys in awhile.
Again. I have no router...NO ROUTER....I have NO FIREWALL (windows FW is off)....My modem does not block port 80 or port 6112. I have NO VIRUS SCANNER. GW just stoped working (code=058). Please help. I'm not asking for much. If you can't help me solve this I must stop playing GW and cancel my preorder of Factions. HELP DARN IT!

Aaron,

Please download and run our network test utility, which can be found at the following link:

ftp://ftp.guildwars.com/diag/netinfotool_allos_gw.exe

Please allow several minutes for the network test to complete. Once it has finished, the utility will automatically generate a text file named network_data_GW.txt which contains the test results. Please send us this file once the test is complete.

The Guild Wars Support Team

Then they came right back with another response:

I just got hit by the same dreaded error 058. Was in game, closed window, and no luck getting back in. I'm 100% that it has nothing to do with my computer.

To anyone having the same problem:

Delete your Gw.dat and Gw.tmp in your Guild Wars directory. Worked for me. I was able to login as soon as I deleted those.

Got it myself now too, first noticed around weds evening, I'm amongs the crowd of people waiting long time at connecting to finally have a timeout and code=58, reinstalls, firewalls, routers, non of those seem at fault. Oddly when I run their network tool, all the failed connections seem to be to the very small 206.127.148.xx ip range, on either TCP port. Dunno if that means anything though.

This code 58 is not the main problem if guild wars would fix them. The main problem is that today is the factions preview und the user with the code 58 cannot play guild wars. This makes me sad.....

Howdy all. Well, we played a bit last night and, although we are now able to get on, the lag is really bad leading me to think that all the factions stuff that they are making us download may be the culprit or, at least part of it.

For anyone who is submitting to NCSoft tech support, there are a couple lines within which you must type your message when you reply to the tech's email. Your text must be below one line and above the other or it will be deleted. If you want your message to get through, you have to do this.

Also, I was, at one time or another, asked to send a log from the GW network tool, a log from hijackthis and a log from dxdiag. You would probably be well served to submit all three from the onset so that the tech won't take 3 days to ask for the next one.

This is certainly a crappy situation and I would rather have seen NO factions as to be unable to play the game. As it is, I can play but my char jumps all around at times and runs sideways, twirls around like a ballerina and freezes. I am trying to figure out what's up with that but I think maybe the game is not in love with 56k'ers anymore.

Emailed them again:

Well, i must say i feel very disapointed towards guild wars. This is a sad day, the release of the factrions preview, and im not even going to be able to take part. I find it verry irratating that your support make me repeat myself lots of times and take over 4 emails to realise my circumstances, and that the problem i am having is not from my side, despite mke clearly stating this in my emails.

I was really looking forward tyo playing the factions preview, but now it looks like im not even going to be able to connect..

I have told you 3 times before that there are hundreds of people with the same problem as me, starting in the same week, same error, different ISP's, different pc's, different countries, yet you seem to be ignoring me.

Here is a forum with some of the others with the same problem:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...=135937&page=7

I assure you we are all having the same problem, all of our tracerouts are showing our pings spiralling out of control at the same hop. It would be nice if a member of guild wars staff were to ensure us that you are working to fix the problem and to apologise for the inconvienience being cause for us.

Guild wars is such a good game, and i feel this is a large letdown on behalf of guild wars.

I havent even seen the directx9 engine in action yet.

Please recognise our problem!

Yours faithfully Mathew Pearson.

I hate to say it but I've been thinking abt it lately. I've heard that "the powers that be" (corporations) are letting all the old internet hubs die( not get upgraded) so that we will be forced on Internet 2.. which will restrict free speech among other things. This error 58 could be a symptom of 1 of the hubs dying/acting glitchy (yes I know I sound like a kook). Thoughts?

That sounds almost like the exact email I sent them two days ago Matthew. The only replies I got was try the network tool again... even though I have told them 5 + times now I have done it and sent it in already. The latest email I got today says to uninstall Trend Mico which was on there when I first installed the game and has worked fine with it until the beginning of this month.

Hey Lycan, if it is not too much of a pain, you might try uninstalling Trend Micro and reinstalling again. Mine would not connect with NOD32 (virus scanner) and even though I turned it off and made sure the process wasn't working, I couldn't get on. After I uninstalled it, I could log on and download a bunch of files. I reinstalled it and it worked still. I also heard from NOD's tech and he told me to make an exception in a couple places. I don't know what GW is doing but apparently, something in their new downloads is getting stopped by some virus checkers (a virus? lol) and uninstalling allows the files to download and install and then putting the virus checker back on post download allows the program to run. I dunno, but it's worth a shot if it won't screw up your computer.

Just tried that and no luck. It isnt anything with the Virus Scanner, me totally unistalling it and cleaning the registry of anything it left behind did not solve the error 058. Honestly I am totally baffled by this and have no ideas now, especially when I am told to try the same thing many times that have not done a thing. Now I wonder if I should stop my order of Factions before it gets shipped

Dubruoy... your a damn god...

I was running NOD32, but was able to connect for a whole month (I first picked up this error a whole TWO months ago).

I reinstalled GW after a format of my computer (im on dialup so reinstalling GW multiple times is not an option), and was denied by a code=058. I then connected to a different dialup number and was able to log in for about a week.

After that I got the code=058 again... For some reason, I left GW on the login screen so the lightning bolt/Z was showing the streaming downloads. After about 100 megs I restarted GW and saw that the announcements appeared and I was able to log in.

Once again about a week later, I encountered the code=058 and left the streaming downloads on in the login screen... And once again after about 100megs of downloads I restarted and saw the announcements popup and I was able to login.

Today (the beta weekend), I got on and noticed that the same thing was happening. To my dismay, I did not see the Z/lightning bolt appear and do the streaming downloads. I came on here and FINALLY other people are having this problem.

I read through all the posts and noticed a constant between me and Dubruoy... NOD32. I just changed my access number and uninstalled and rebooted, viola! GW WORKS!!!

Weird thing is, I have been using NOD32 for the past month and I was always able to login with it on. Then just yesterday the trial period ended (so nothing works on it). During the first factions update, I downloaded the patch and was able to get on. Then they had another update and I was not able to login. Very peculiar.

BTW, auth1.arenanetworks.com timed out when trying to trace route back to it o_O, yet I can login....

Well after two weeks of jumping through hoops and running all their "diagnostic programs" and uninstalling and installing various combinations hardware and software components I finnally get this response.

"Hello,

This issue has been escalated to our network engineering team. The issue seems to be related to network updates that a major Internet provider are making and they are also looking into a resolution for this issue. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have an ETA for the resolution of the issue, but rest assured that it will be resolved in due time. We appreciate your help and patience in identifying this problem and working towards a resolution.

Please let us know when you're able to connect again and whether you have any other problems at that point.

Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team"

Translation: We already have your $50 bucks and we don't feel like actively trying to fix this problem on our own because there are not a large enough number of user's experiencing this problem for it to cause a negative impact on prospective sales of our product/s. Therefore we are going to claim that the fault has nothing to do with us and instead blame the fault on an internet provider who will remain nameless because, lets face it, is our fault and we just don't want a major corporation to sue us because of libel. And we also have no idea when or even if this problem is going to be resolved but rest assured that if it does magically go away on it's own it was all due to the efforts and hard work of our diligent tech support staff and has nothing to do with that unamed internet provider which we are blaiming presently. Also if you should manage to get it up and running on your own please shoot us an e-mail not because we're curious about how you resolved the issue but because WE CARE.

Yea, abit dubious about using tracert on this I suppose, doubt they'd let just everything go through to the auth server anyway, we're probably not supposed to get all the way through with random spam packets just for traceroute.

[Edit] Oddly though I got an email from arena net getting the same request, plus a request to try telnet on their auth server.

Could just be good security at their end (assuming it's not that same security stopping us logging in, in which case, that's bad s.e.c.u.r.i.t.y, very bad s.e.c.u.r.i.t.y!) not sending responses to the traceroute, my traceroute to file1.arenanetworks.com (another destination tested by their network info tool) stops getting responses before it gets there but telnet on port 6112 goes through in an instant.

I finally am able to get on! For me, I had to uninstall Nod32 (not just disable it or configure it, but uninstall it) because according to guild wars tech support, something with the registry was messed up or something. Anyway good luck to everyone and hopefully they will all get fixed soon! (Ps. get ready to decompress A LOT of files)

I think that zerowingcats proves that on at least some machines, UNINSTALLING your virus checker and then reinstalling might do it. As I said before, I think that some change in the GW code or something has caused a lot of people's virus checkers to block the connection. That is, IF you have ruled out a router setting or firewall setting. I think that uninstalling and then reinstalling allows your virus checker to adapt itself to the new GW downloads. Fortunately, uninstalling and reinstalling NOD32 is a snap...not always so easy with Norton.
