right...........DO this
TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL, that doesant mean leave it on...
Start> run> cmd> tracert auth1.arenanetworks.com
IF YOU SEE IT REACHING A FEW HOPS THEN THE PROBLEM IS NOT ON YOUR PC.
IF YOU CANNOT RESOLVE EVEN THE FIRST HOP THE PROBLEM IS NOT A ROUTING ISSUE IT IS ON YOUR PC.

If you know how to configure your firewall it would be easier than un-installing it. Youve gotta learn sometime unless you fancy un-installing your firewall/virus scanner every time you get a software update. My advice is to get a decent easy to use firewall like SYGATE
http://www.tucows.com/preview/213160
I dont see the point in these airport control tower firewalls alot of you are using, your pc isnt fort nox. Sygate and firewalls like it are simple and easy to use, they show popups to allow or deny any packets being sent out or in from software. You can then just tick allow permanantly.

Guildwars roxx u have the same problem as me, a router is making us lag on our route to the guild wars servers.
Endeavor what connection are you on, what is the configuration, i.e are you using a router, are you at uni, Do you connect to another pc with internet connection sharing?

sounds like you have a router with a NAT firewall to me, this would explain why you cant see your router (the first hop in this case) in the traceroute.
If i can edit my explanation before:
If you dont recieve any responses on your traceroute then the fault is on your pc!

I have the same problem as you guys. The day before Factions was released I couldn't connect to GW login server. I asked tech support and they gave me the usual response, router, port forward, run netinfo tool etc. Then they ended with "The issue seems to be related to network updates that a major Internet provider are making and they are also looking into a resolution for this issue." So then I called my ISP Comcast Cable and asked them about the problem and they said there is an outage in my area. So I guess I'll just have to wait. I live in California btw.
GuildWarsRox
well im in IL lol soooo were not the closest ppl lol

btw mathew wat is name of ur router/hub? and hehe my name is matthew too btw

I am on univertsity connection, so there are a few routers, but my traceroutes reach the same server as everyone else then stop responding :/
GuildWarsRox
so wat shall me and u do?

I have the same problem as u guys..only thing is that i ran the tracert auth1.arenanetworks.com in cmd. And ALL of my 30 hops were all timed out.
I have tried disabling my firewall and anti-virus and tried logging on the Guild Wars. But all I got was the same error, Code=058
So any suggestions?

I have been playing Guild Wars since the first day it came out using a D-Link (wired) router. Also had AOL Safety & Security Suite with that and have had no problems with Guild Wars up about until 2 weeks ago.
Yet another person with the same dilemma. Experienced the problem about the same time as you all did. Uninstalled/reinstalled game twice, exchanged emails with customer support, got the same exact response they gave kobashii (blaming it on an unnamed major ISP's network update), but not before running a utility program that they had me send the results back to them. RE-FORMATTED, installed fresh copy of Windows, directly connected to cable modem, installed GW (no antiivirus, firewall, anti-spyware whatsoever). Same result. The dreaded Code=058. Tried to replace .dat file. Downloaded a damn near gigabyte (978MB) of updates. No progress.
What pisses me off the most is, I have a buddy living 3 blocks away from me with the same ISP (Comcast in CA) who is farming ectos right this very minute.

I am part of a software/hardware based forum that has several members playing Guild Wars, and one of them is having the same problem. Heres what he posted.
So.... now we look at the facts
It is of course not our firewall
In some cases it might be the antivirus (although not sure)
It does not have consistency with the ISP
Router settings and all the other fun networking stuff is not the problem
People can log on when connected to same places, but not others
We are able to trace the route to the login server
A clean formatted computer is still not able to login
So... it does not seem to be software based or hardware based. It has to be something with the connection... Guild Wars does not like something that our ISP is doing, when we connect to it.
I saw a couple threads ago that support said try changing your IP ranger, and when they did, it still didn't work... could this be because the range you have to have is minute compared to the ranges that the internet has.
This might be against forum rules, but meh... I was connecting through a 4.x.x.x IP address and it wouldn't let me log into Guild Wars.
I then uninstalled NOD32 and reset my connection to connect through a different server... My IP address is now 68.18.x.x. If y'all are willing, what range do all y'all have?

Still no luck per-say but here is an update if this helps anyone. I took my comp to the office and used our wi-fi and I could get onto the game just fine. At home however, I have yet to get on. I hooked up my wireless router today, in hopes of getting onto wi-fi at homelike I did at work, but no luck. So I'm going to be reading up on port stuff today and see if I can't figure more out. And one more bit of info I found kinda' fun, NCSoft mailed me today and said that they were taking my "Issue" to their "Advanced Network Team". Hopefully that might work. I would however like to see someone on the boards fix it before they do ------------------------------------------ Here is some fun info I took my computer and every piece of home network and internet connection stuff over to my friends house (who has the same ISP as me) and hooked up all my stuff just like at my house, and GW worked fine, and all the "networkinfo" tests looked great. Came home hooked it back up, and nuthin'. I "borrowed" my neighbors unsecure wireless network and connected fine. So I looked at his settings, setup a wireless network in my house just like it and... nope, didn't work. Any ideas now? later |

The traceroute completely finishes?
Most of the guys here have had their traceroutes cut short at the same ip address.
Maybe both forums can colaborate complaints and actually get guild wars to do something about it!

I have tried directly connecting to my cable modem. I still got the same result. Antigd was accurate in stating that a clean formatted computer is still not able to login as I have performed the operation twice just to make sure I have tried every possible solution to the error. I have also stated in my last post that a friend of mine who is subscribed to the same ISP as I am and resides 3 blocks away from me have not had any problems with Guild Wars, and has had the chance to participate in the Guild Wars Factions preview.
I will be checking to see what other possible solutions we can try to resolve this issue since customer support obviously doesn't have a viable answer to this problem. Please post solutions that work for you.

All uni networks have been screwed over by this. Apparently its the fault of ja.net who maintain the network that many unis use.
It looks like its gg for guild wars for me. >.>

Im not on any Uni connection, just a direct connection. I stop at the same IP as pretty much everyone else, 11 65 ms 63 ms 63 ms POS7-0.GW2.LAX15.ALTER.NET [152.63.117.85]
I just gave up for now and started playing another game. I just hope this is all fixed when my copy of Factions arrives.
