Soldier's Fury is okay, you can easily use it to get permanent 33% IAS and extra adrenaline.

*) Almost every Ranger Beast Mastery Elite skill.

That covers a LOT of Ranger elites that need to be slightly buffed or buffed.

Worst elites depend on your build and preference in my opinion. But me, I'm not too big on the warrior skills where you use an elite and then automatically lose all adrenaline and energy (energy is already very low on a tank unless you have lots of runes). And what's with the elites, or any skill for that matter, that end as soon as you successfully hit with an attack or use an attack skill? Renders melee professions kind of useless.

I do agree that Quick Shot is pretty useless. Sure it moves faster, but so do others that do less damage.

LOL. That and Mel's Shot are the only used Ranger elites in any respectable level of PvP.

The others, I'll agree with you.

Magebane shot says hai!

OT: rangerspirits and most of the ritualist elite's could use some reworking

Yeah, I thought of Magebane after I said it. I thought about editing, but didn't figure most people considered TA respectable PvP. I know it's basically meta there.

Anyway, I haven't seen it for a while in my GvG/HA observances (I'm mainly PvE but I observe when bored). Was it added lately due to Distortion eles?

Are you insane?

-Burning arrow is CONSTANTLY used in JQ (from my experience)

-Punishing shot is still a very useful interrupt for the bow. Don't get mad cause you cant do it as well as mesmers

-Famine is good for farming in PvE, maybe it could get a rework or buff for PvP though

-Melandru's Arrows were already updated. Leave it alone.

-Perhaps a slight buff for Poison Arrow for PvE, but it should stay the same as it is for PvP.

-Smoke trap I admit not to have had enough experience with to say yay or nay.

The problem with this whole thread is ppl are going to suggest skills to buff for THEIR main class, instead of skills that need to be buffed/changed regardless of class. For example, if I were to provide a list, of skills I think should be buffed or changed, it would mostly be Dervish skills.

Poison Arrow could use some conditional damage, such as doing 5...20 extra damage if it hits a foe not already suffering from poison. It would still poison the target if it hits. That might make it a decent pressure skill, and you could run it with Barbed.

No, the problem with this thread is the sheer number of uninformed opinions, such as the guy you ripped for complaining about ranger elites that see regular use. I've seen most of the skills players are complaining about contribute mightily in PvP builds at some point. Eg: Mark of Protection as the key ingredient in old EoE bomb.

The original "The Power is Yours" is probably the worst elite I've seen in the history of the game. Impossibly unwieldy.

It's hard to beat the current Shroud of Silence for uselessness. Spending your elite slot on a three second blackout that you can only use twice per minute is about as pointless as it gets.

Crippling Anguish. Exact same everything as Imagined Burden but with 2 degen (3 if 12) and elite. And it's a hex to so it could get removed the second it's applied anyways.

3/4 is in PvE. People seem to have forgot PvP existed since that update happened. They are still long casting toothpicks otherwise.

I vanquished half the game using a Smoke Trapper. Back in the days before any idiot could apply the most powerful anti-caster condition in the game by pressing 'Technobabble' and do so very fast thanks to consumables.

As a Ranger... I think i'd have to go for Poison Arrow.
In Prophecies, Apply Poison was better and everyone and his dog ran Barrage (i favoured Punishing Shot).
In Factions, why take Poison Arrow over Apply Poison and lose the possibility of using Broadhead Arrow?
In Nightfall you finally got access to Barbed Arrows... oh damn, Burning Arrow and poison being spreadble through Death Nova on hero MMs.
In EotN it still hasn't seen a buff and the PvE skills rendered it even more useless.

Helix has just reminded me... Second Wind... i'm sure i used Ether Prodigy for something, i just can't remember what.

You serious lol? Ether Prodigy is probably one of the best energy management skills in the game and only doenst see play now for various reasons, ie. rits and power creep.

Anyone dissing Burning Arrow is confusing me. That's my favorite ranger elite skill to use next to Barrage combined with Splinter Weapon. Burning Arrow + Screaming Shot + Apply Poison = WIN. But that's just me.

LOL @ Ether Prodigy. Lose all your enchants, get exhausted, and lose health for all the energy you got back. OUCH epic fail

Ether Prodigy = Epic Fail ???

Please learn to play an elementalist.

The whole point is that you use up all the energy as you gain it - you cast the spell when your energy has ran out, and keep on using the energy you get back.

Since the obviousness is apparently alluding you, eles that bring this make sure they keep their energy as low as possible so they take little damage. Eles can run incredibly expensive spells like Heal Party and Extinguish at little consequence when they run this elite. The exhaustion isn't a problem because A) you're keeping your energy low anyway and B) if it runs its full duration most of the exhaustion is gone. It requires intelligence to manage, though.

It was incredibly common during prophecies, factions too if I recall correctly. But as was said already, powercreep eventually eclipsed its usefulness.

The reason why ether prodigy no longer sees play is because of several reasons. Prior to factions it was as popular in PVP as good old boon prot monks.

- Damage caused when Ether Prodigy ends was increased from 2x to 3x your energy left over.

- Heal party was nerfed to no longer affect allies across the whole map, rendering the Prodigy E/Mo flag runner a lot less usefull.

- The use of Ether Prodigy / Glyph of Renewal / Elemental Attunement fell into decline during factions, and with nightfall they were replaced entirely by much superior elite skills. This is maybe what you mean by power creep.

Ether prodigy is far from the worst elite. You lose 10 maximum energy for +6 energy regen. Energy management > max energy.

Skull Crack - There is just so many better warrior elites to use.
Unyeilding Aura - If you put this on your skill bar you should be banished to pre-searing forever.
Keystone Signet - If someone could find a viable use for it then you are better than me. So many better elites to use as a mesmer.

There are just far too many elites for each class making alot of elites useless.

Mount Qinkai Speed Clear anyone? Even outside of that, it's like Healer's Boon (minus skill cast boost) + Sunspear Rebirth Signet at Rank 10 sunspear for the cost of one energy pip. Not the best choice in most situations, but a far cry from the worst.

For the worst, I gotta go with Keystone Sig. There are enough signets now to make a decent all signet bar for mesmers, but they're too spread out across the various attribute lines to make it worth anything.

Lose all enchantments. For 5...17 seconds, you gain +6 energy regeneration. When Ether Prodigy ends, you lose 3 health for each point of energy you have. This Spell causes Exhaustion.
This skill is one big fail. The 3 major downsides of using this skill makes using it a self inflicted agony.

Thats the problem... Amity is useless but it HAS potential.

Binding Chains is the single most irritating skill you can ever have cast on you, enemies are inclined to ignore you and with Siphons flying around using up hex removal, in HM you spend 21 seconds with a 90% snare doing NOTHING.
If you could reliably single target DPS, something that shouldn't be unheard of, you could effectively. Or you could run vamp/degen.

Amity actually has the potential to be useful, but there are elites out there that simply don't have any use at all.

Buster... i think you might want to read Unyielding Aura again outside of a PvP outpost. If you can't understand how upto 63% healing and the best res in the game is now useful you need your head examined ><

The 5 sec down time on adrenaline stuff is negligible and can be made up for if you pack lions comfort. Best part is you can double pop lions comfort for a great heal or to build adrenaline even more quickly. You can knock str down to 13 and run 14 in your weapon and still charge the fun 6a axe skills instantly.

I'll also defend Skull Crack, put that on a hero warrior or sin and watch them maul npc casters.

I'd say Amity, Keystone Signet, quick shot, Ravenous Gaze, Withdraw Hexes and maybe mark of protection are in the top slots as worst elite skill. Amity has no practical purpose and is to cumbersome to use effectively(it's easier to just kill a threat). Keystone has a few neat signet juggling tricks but it's just not that potent, Quick shot is outclassed by non elites. I could see ravenous used in like an 8 man situation, but it's way to risky, takes too much coordination and solo, compared to grenths balance it's sorta weak. Withdraw is sorta lost in powercreep, the new P&H or plain ol' expel hexes does better. And mark of protection sucks unless you're a dolyak rider, it's too expensive, only lasts about 12 seconds and takes way to long to recharge to be a serious prot.

I don't like scribe's insight very much either....

Im actually amazed people think ether prodigy is that bad of a skill lol. It is probably the best elite energy managment skill in the game and the only reason it doesn't see play now is because you dont need your elite for energy mangement anymore with buffs to attunements and glyphs. Theres loads of skills less powerful than it for sure.

Also to the person saying Spoil Victor is better than Soul Bind must forget that all the hexes are in the curses line and not blood magic.

Amity is clearly the worst elite skill in the game

  • Ravenous Gaze (lol low life steal)
  • Amity (I shouldn't need to say anything)
  • Archer's Signet (alright! I get to extent conditions! ....with my bow.....um, never mind)
  • Defiant Was Xinrae (wut's protective spirit?)

In PvP:
  • Scribe's Insight (why is your monk using sigs in pvp?)
  • Shroud of Silence (an elite blackout that sucks? nty)
  • Unyielding Aura (PvP) (elite vengeance ftw!)
  • Decapitate (You have huge domages!? Great! What else happens? Oh....so that's why no one uses you)
