Prior to the update yesterday, I went through Divinity Coast. I did 50 runs, like some people have been saying they were going to, and tallied up everything. In 50 runs I got 99 items:
49 White
18 Blue
18 Purple
14 Gold
To me, most of it was just for sale to the merchants. The monetary total came to just over 4 platinum (4111 after factoring in the cost of 2 identification kits) I only came across 2 gold items I actually took a salvage kit to. A staff with a +4 insightful head and a sword with a +27 pommel of fortitude. I wasn't too happy to get the OTHER upgrades from both items, but that's the way it happens sometimes.
I don't know if I'd do it again now (50 runs, post-update), but it seemed to be giving a pretty decent spread of items, from common to rare, yesterday.

I missed out on all the farming, I wasn't far enough into the game yet when farming was good and by the time I could solo drakes, etc it was already nerfed. Now I just discovered chest farming but it is nerfed. So fustrating to know that I played for over 150 hours and someone can get more stuff than me in an hour of chest runs. If I find out another farming spot/method, I'll be sure to abuse it as much as I can before it gets nerfed. Let's face it, there is no other way to get a set of godly items without farming like crazy.

Ive been trying the barrel run at DC, and it can be decent at times, but really isnt worth the run to that one barrel when I get about 1 gold roughly every 8-15 runs and about 1-3 blues and maybe 1-2 purples during those runs while getting about 15+ whites. Sometimes ill hit streaks of 2-3 whites per trip for like up to 5 runs in a row. Yesterday I had 3 golds in about 7 runs and then it was all white for the next 10+. So, I decided to run my warrior from copperhammer to ironmines to thunderhead to the grotto. Boy did that take some time and many deaths cause the henchs couldnt keep up to act as decoys. So I started doing the grotto 2x chest run and have yet to find a purple or gold in what is probably over 40 runs since yesterday. Ive done about 8 today and found all white and blue, with 4 trips being all whites. One trip had 5 blues though. Still not worth the time and hassle, but much quicker then DC in my opinion. I guess its back to DC for now.

I only see 1 chest outside Grotto..Oh and it doesnt drop many purple or rares..It drops nice items though, to sell to the merchant..And ive gotten a Fiery Dragon Sword from that chest, and a Crystalline sword from the barrel in DC..

Xeno, if you go to that first chest and then continue to go north along the right side like your headed to thunderhead, which isnt far, youll come across a second chest. I get tons of white items that sell for decent gold, and some precious blue ones that have sold for a couple hundred, but thats about it. I had one max dmg white hammer and a couple max dmg white staffs drop. Theres just a lot of imps along the way to the second one and every now and then they will get the best of me and ill die because of that stupid mind freeze that slows your speed down. Ima go do some DC runs, anyone else know of any barrels that arnt hard to get to?

I think that even if they're going to nerf chest farming, do that before monsters. I solo killed 18 lightning drakes (Sanctum Cayx2) and got 1 blue item out of all of it. I could easily have gotten more from running DC 5 times (before it got owned).

How do you know that DC is "officially" nerfed? did you see a patch note somewhere that I missed?
Also, I did notice that I got less purple items then I used to, but I also noticed that in about 20 runs I got the same amount of gold items I did before the last patch. I got ALOT more white and blue items then I used to though, which works out better in my oppinion since most of the time the blue items are worth more than the purple, and more likely to get weapon upgrades from blue (which is why I farm in the first place, trying to unlock diffrent things).
Also, I did notice that I got less purple items then I used to, but I also noticed that in about 20 runs I got the same amount of gold items I did before the last patch. DC is horrible now. I havent heard anything bad about grotto chest but i didnt like it anyways. I guess if you are determined enough to farm a damn chest you'll find another spot.

this is a little off topic, but ive tried multiple places that have been posted here and i have a few questions...
1) what is the most common class among all the chest farmers here
2) are any of these even possible for a mesmer/level20
3) are you only counting what you get from chests/barrels, or are you counting what you get when you kill monsters along the way, or do you just run the entire thing over and over again without killing anything.
if the latter part of the 3rd question is the right situation, how in the hell does a mesmer freakin get money.... without henchies, or a party is it even possible?
for the questions that are coming, ive tried every place except for the grotto/ south shiverpeaks runs, havent gotten to those places yet.

the only effective way of farming i have found so far, is material farming in old ascalon... no xp, but super easy. i went through the breach in about 10 - 20 minutes, stopping to heal and recharge after every fight, and then went into diessa lowlands for 5 minutes, then stopped off at grenich, then went to flame temple corridor and kiled every charr but the 2 large groups, 1 by entrance to the big open area and 1 by exit. and it took me about an hour total breach, diessa, flame temple. i got 4 runes all minors, and only 1 upgrade, but tons of wood, tanned hide, bone, etc that i can sell for a chunk of change or hold onto and sell in bulk to armor crafters in droknars, lions arch if i feel like it.
then went to another area in old ascalon. i wont point out exactly which but i will say its been posted in this forum on a different thread and got a black dye and silver dye in 5 minutes.

Bah screw the divinity coast chest, I found a new spot out in the snow. 3 minute run, 3 chests, 2 with gold 1 wth items, racked up 5k in no more than 20 minutes or less.

Well, I do get alot of white items there now, and before I got a purple item almost every run. I quess ANet s just checking this topic non-stop, just to check which chest they forgot to nerf Hehe

I would have to say that the algorithm for what that barrel kicks-out, while maybe not 'nerfed', has definitely been 'tweaked' - and tweaked hard at that.
I took about 3 min. per run (lvl 15 Ranger/Elem) and it would take around 1.5 hrs per 30-run session. Yes, it gets boring, but the gold was good at first.
I would make 4600g (pre) and 2900g (post). AND 6-10 named items (pre) and 2-5 (post).
Yes - tweaked, nerfed, 'updated'...call it what you want. Bots have killed the DC for us.
The sad thing is - I JUST got there on 6/29/05. - I have found a 'lower, need to kill a bunch solo' farming/trying to make a bit of cash spot - and I'm not posting it here, that's for sure. I think it's a very unsuspecting spot, until word gets out. It only yields about 2k per hour, but I figure it's like going to work in the morning:
- log on
- farm for an hour (make 1.5-2.5k)
- do a mission or a couple of quests
- whatever next suits me fancy...

Also, when it is said that an exploit has been 'taken care of' - I take that as either an EXP or GOLD exploit. Either way, it was getting GOLD or EXP at a high rate.

Obsidian armor isn't impossible to get - at least - not yet anyway. I can make roughly 20,000g at the end of the day, (farming, trading, transforming materials). And that's enough for me. I play a good 4-6 hours per day, and I don't 'make money' all the time. I try to PvP as much as I can too.
So yeah, it will take me 25 days to get Obsidian armor. Not too bad. Only 3 weeks.

What I don't get is why chest farm when you can kill a bunch of mobs and get tons of XP plus drops ? Today I did the DC run about 20 times and made about 2000 in 30 minutes. I then went to Forge and went west to the troll area and smited trolls with my N/Mo. Yielded about 5000 in 30 minutes. The big difference was the entire level I gained from smiting them dead

Wearable items should drop directly from monsters. And bosses should drop the best. Traders and collectors should sell decent non magical stuff, but if you want something really good... Bosses!
