Hi,
Why can't GW raise the lvl to 40?

They could if they truely wanted to

Yeah, after the alliance system was implemented, "skill over time played" kind of went out the window, they might as well do it.
EF2NYD
Yeah, gaining Alliance faction doesn't make you a better pvp player.
Ravex
i honestly think it was time played as well as skill the whole time the more u play the better u get and the more u play the better items and more mony u have. but i dont think they can bring it past 20 beacause thats how the skills are set up espeicialy in pvp.
Loviatar

why do people have to see inflated numbers just so they can grind out a higher level to prove how superior they are to the person who has a life and less time to play?
thankfully it wont be raised

Its not just the skills btw..how about every weapon, creature, etc in the game.

Just halve the hp and attribute points gained at level, and raise the cap to 40.
No scaling necessary, all they have to do is use current level 20 enemies to oppose people at level 40.

Anet doesn't want the game to become a level-grind like that crappy World of Warcraft. They want all players to hit a plateu quick, and then the difference in personal skill (that of the person playing) is what will distinguish them from each other.
Also, if levels continue to increase, you hit the problem of power creep. Bad players will whine for more power in each new expansion/update, to try to best each other and the PvE monsters. In response, the other players will be forced to "up the ante" to the level of the whiners, and the npc monsters will have to be made harder. This prompts another round of losers whining, which starts a vicious cycle in which everybody is left unhappy.
Numbers aren't everything, and simply increasing the numbers won't improve the game.

your lvl doesnt mean anything in this game other than that fact that you have x ammount of attribute points, and we all know they can't raise how many attribute point we have. there's really no point in this at all.
/not signed.
in fact if they did away with the lvl's it wouldnt change a thing. you would just start to see people running around saying "w/mo LFG 4 mission I got x ammount of att. points"

Because no one would play the game anymore, they would begin charging a monthly fee...and it would become WoW. (Which is crap btw)

Why can't you go play WoW and never post on these forums again? While they're increasing the level cap to 40 they should make bows do 3000 damage.

Why do we go through this every 2 weeks. ANet has said over and over they WILL NOT raise the level cap.
They should make a plugin for people who insist on this to add a '0' to the end of every number they see. Then they can be level 200 and have 5000 life and be happy and we can all continue playing our game.

PvPers could faction farm if they didn't find it mind numbingly boring.

level 40 is way to high. It would be way to much damage and also you would have over 700 health at level 40. It would unbalence the game. Also level 40s could go back to tyria and easily solo some of the most powerful creatures there. It would be totally messed up.

This thread is edging off topic xD
Can you imagine having to reach lvl 40 before your pve toon was pvp-ready? And remember how slow it can be getting from lvl 15-20. Level 35-40 would take about a week of constant playing. O_O

If it wasn't off topic we'd have to be explaining for the 90,000 time why increasing the level cap won't happen and how stupid of an idea it is.

I come from real, true, old school RPG system where you had level caps at 99. With 9,999 HP and 999 MP. Those were the days. Yes, I grew up in the days of Final Fantasy and I loved it. All these people complain about balance and such. Well, if there was a user at a higher level who could do better than you or own you; you would strive to get your character better to try and meet or best them, correct? I know I would.
"But wait, I have a life so it's not fair to me!" So...? I'll play the game the way I want. If I want to level my character by sitting here on my butt for a month to get to the max level, then so be it. Sorry if it's not fair to you because you "have a life", but if you "have a life" why did you bother to buy and play this game? But hey, even in those old school days I could still get to level 99. I'd take care of what's important, doing my schoolwork and chores; then I'd play as long as I wanted until it was time to go to sleep for school the next day. I still managed and I'm sure all these people who claim they have lives would manage too. It sounds more like an "I'm too lazy" excuse in all honesty. I too have a life, I go to college and work; but I still take care of what needs to be done, then use my free time to play Guild Wars.
But then there is "balance" issues. Well, if you're a lower level and you encounter a higher level (we already do, level 22-30 enemies, but anyways) enemy, you want to become equal in level to it, and eventually surpass it. No matter what game it is. That's part of the challenge and part of the thrill! How ironic that it's also a part of natural balance. ;P
Remember when they changed the experience to next skill point to 15,000 experience? They had it make up for all people by the next enemy killed they'd catch up via experience on that kill. So ANet and NCSoft can easily do it again if they raise the level cap. I truly hope they do raise the level cap; as it would allow us to do more in the game. I'd honestly laugh if all those people whining about "I have a life" wind up hitting the cap of very close to it. :P
You had free exploration too, but you couldn't explore far unless you were very lucky. If you found a new area there were often tough new monsters that would kill you within a couple hits, if not one. But that was part of the thrill! Would you survive and find a new town? Maybe. That's a part of what makes RPG's enjoyable!
I want to see the level cap raised as well. I'd like to see my weapons hit harder, my armor to make me take less damage. If I want my character to be the highest level, then yeah; it'd be great. At this time we're hitting level 20, and look at how fast it happens. What's the point of being level 20 if everyone in the game is pretty much level 20? You get to level 20 so fast there's no real challenge or thrill to it. Everyone is running around at level 20 you can't tell who's really new to the game or who really has skill, because everyone is level 20 according to the "balance".
So in closing, ANet and NCSoft, if you're listening; I for one am 100% for getting the level cap raised. Level 20 is just too low as explained above. Give us some more fun and more things to do. Leveling your character up is actually FUN to a lot of people, if that's what they want to do, so be it then! I find it a great way to test limits and see what I can do and improve my skills. It also allows for new areas with new/rare enemies and more to be added into the game. That would draw customers and add profits too. So please raise the level cap ANet and NCSoft, it would be a good thing to a lot of people. Especially if it is brought up over and over on numerous forums. :P

i'd sign to raising the level to 40. as it is you can make a character and get it to 20 in a day. at least make getting to 40 a challenge. isn't that the point of most MMORPG's.. to have a challenge getting to the max level?
sure... some people have "lives" and it shouldn't be the restriction to this game. may take you longer to get to 40 by only having a couple hours a day.. but seriously, i've made like 6 level 20's in the past 2 months without even trying.
getting to the max level is supposed to be an accomplishment...

Question!
What would you gain if you up the level cap? At the current system, up the level cap not only give you more HP, Damage, but most importantly, more Attribute Points. And since skills and its effect/duration is also effect relatively to your attribut points... if you do go with highter level cap, how would you justify it?
So take a skill fo Gladiator's Defense {Elite}
Description: For the next 5/10/12 seconds, you have a 75% chance to "block" incoming attacks. Each time you block a melee attack this way, the attacker suffers 5/29/37 damage.
Energy Cost: 5.
Casting Time: Instant.
Recharge Time: 30 seconds.
Linked Attribute: Tactics. Increases duration and damage.
Skill Type: Stance.
so at attribute 1, it last 5 seconds. at 12, it last for 10s. (I think it is at a (N*.45)+5, where N is your attribute level) going by this, if you have attribute level of 60, the lasting time would be greate than the recharge time.
Unless the whole system is redone, increase level cap does not make sense.
I would rather see that once your reach lv 20, that part of your title would be taken out and not show.

I won't disagree with the "lure" and the "illusion of power" that is associated with a level grinding game, and would actually suggest to add some of that into GW, but more as an IN-Map type of powerup, rather than Level Cap Increase.

Seeing as how the other poll they has closed a new one is in order. The intent here is for a mature discussion, no flaming or anything like that. A simple, honest discussion. I carry over my post from another thread as it took a few good minutes to write, though I believe it has some validity in the statements provided.
If you do not have any valid input or nothing worth adding to this thread, then please do not post. That includes not posting your message of "Go play WoW" or any other trolling.

I myself made a Ranger Monk, and within less than 24 hours I was a level 20 ascended/infused ranger with all 30 extra skill points. This isn't saying skill points would have to be raised, but that is an option that ANet can consider.
Kind regards,
Tarun

Getting your character ascended and to level 20 was supposed to be an accomplishment. How is that so if everyone is running around with a character at level 20? I myself made a Ranger Monk, and within less than 24 hours I was a level 20 ascended/infused ranger with all 30 extra skill points. This isn't saying skill points would have to be raised, but that is an option that ANet can consider.

I agree. I too remember the 99 limit cap for a level and I would have lots of spark to get level 99 or even level 30 in Guild Wars. Everyday I'm moving away from GW to FPSs for the fun and action and accomplishments and fun 16/16 or 64/64 fun bonazas in a server! I would really enjoy having an update to the level cap.

Actually, they' d remove leveling all together and have everone start at lvl20 before they raised it.
They only added the leveling system to lure MMO players to the game. Its pretty useless.
Factions only proved the case, in that they made the "grind" to lvl 20 take literally...maybe 3-4 hours of gameplay. I suppose by later releases in the series they might make it even easier, or just start pve characters at lvl20 like pvp.
It wouldn't really effct much, I told you, the leveling and RPG elements were just added to make MMO players buy the game basically.

I love the way lvl 20 is set up.
As a casual gammer, knowing that I'm lvl 20, get max stat armor, and skills I can compete on an even level with other players.
Guildwars was sold to me as skill vs grind, and I do feel the "grind" is not there compared to every other MMORPH.
I like the fact that GW rewards you on how you meet challaneges, not a get higher level so you can decimate x zone but figure a way to beat the zone using your skill.
I really like the way it is and hope they never raise the skill cap. It like magic the gathering, you have x life, a deck of cards, only x in your hand, and everyone plays by the same base rules.

The low level was to minimize Grind requirements in order to allow for Casual Gaming. BUt it seems everyone is always bitching that they dont have the oppertunity to exploit that grind over others. Well they gave you Faction grinding now, as well as titles, we certainly don't need more power leveling.
I see no reason to force the other 90% of people that are happy with a grindless System, to be forced into grinding just cause you feel your are to weak as a level 20 to best the limited level 30 and 31 NPC bosses(only about 8 NPCs I can think of in this level). Or worse you have problems defeating the NPCs Mobs that are an ave level of 18 (22->15).
If anything Factions Proved that they were all about eliminating the need to grind with their very fast leveling in the Monistarty. The rest of the game is equal or better then Souther Shiverpeaks or Fire Islands now. That was BY DESIGN because people were Rushing to get to those areas in the previous chapter, instead of playing the boring low level missions. IE: Message to Anet was REDUCE THE GRIND! Which they did. Now you posers are wanting MORE grind again with raiseing the level. I give up there is no pleasing everyone. There is already enough Discrimination in the game with Rank and Titles, there certainly does not need to be more with required grinding to gain Max level of some imaginary point. Cause you know if your capped at 99 and they give that too you, (which they will not), you will be crying that a lev 99 character can be made instantly with a PvP build, and demanding a grind only system so you can exploit your power level.
By the way. You have any idea what that would do to attribs? and balance factors in the game??? I do. Its called playing a completly different game. If you don't like GuildWars, Leave! Quit trying to force Anet to turning into Worlds of Warcraft or Everquest. If you like those models so much, go play those. GW is different from those for a reason.
