Stop picking on those who refuse to skip cutscenes

Agreed. Have some patience. Go get a drink if you don't want to see it. Other people playing the game for the first time should'nt have their expirience ruined just becuase you're a jerk.
Don't even tell people to skip. If they want to,they'll do it on their own. Especially in Pre-Searing Ascalon's mission!

This is why voting to skip cutscenes has to be unanimous. If you want to watch it, don't hit ESC and don't worry about what anyone says.
Yes, people shouldn't bitch about it, but people bitch about anything, so just watch the cutscene and if they gripe about it after, just leave. Don't give in to peer pressure, even if you're 1 out of 8 who haven't skipped.
And yes, it's stupid and rude when people say "OMG SKIP CUTSECN!!!". If people have seen it and don't care to watch it again, they'll skip it. If they want to watch it, they won't skip. Sometimes I'll watch the whole cutscene anyway if people keep spamming about skipping it.

That's why there's a special few slots on my Ignore List reserved for people who verbally grief in groups.

Personally, I've seen the cutscenes too many times to even count. And yet, I recognize that some people are new to the game and have not seen them, or may just enjoy watching them, whatever. I make it a point to see if anyone else is skipping; if I see some people not skipping then I assume they fall into one of the two above categories and ...
1. Either don't skip it either
2. Resign myself to watch it again, go get a drink, etc.
In no circumstances do I believe it's right to down someone for not skipping, and if I am ever in a group with someone who yells and griefs about skipping the cutscene..I generally won't.

If the majority wants to watch it then let them watch it!!!

I agree Harmony! I also don't skip when someone starts yelling about skipping.

Definitely, if someone wants to watch a cutscene, he has every right to then and there.
We must keep in mind, as a few people have mentioned before, that we are vulnerable to attacks, degen, and such during the cutscene. Would it be too dificult for Anet to just freeze all health and/or mana changes for the duration of the cutscene?

I agree mostly. It took until my 3rd or 4th char. before I had seen them all, and that's just not right. Everyone deserves to see them all on their first time through the mission. The only time I don't aggree with this is on time sensitive matters. I almost killed myself on one cutscene, as the person who ran ahead did not announce it, and I still had my vampiric bow on. Nonetheless, they could not have known this, so I was understanding. However, when matters of minions and aggro are concerned, it does get complicated. For example, if a minion master has a whole whord going, it can be very beneficial to him/her and the whole group to skip the cutscene. Also, the one desert mission (elona, I think) where it's typical to run past the mino's to the cutscene.... if the mino's are still with you and are attacking during the cutscene, it's a good idea to skip and take care of them.
However, with these 2 exceptions aside, I agree that more groups should be nicer about watching cutscenes.

Yeah, MM's and getting attacked during cutscenes are the only reason i'd ever get angry at someone not skipping ...
I had both happen to me once, had a herd of about 10 minions or so, and was actually KILLED during the cutscene and the minions turned on the rest of the team
I vaguely remember an update or something along those lines that you can no longer be killed/hurt during scenes? any validity to that? Last time it even happened to me was quite some time ago ...

For People Like me, Who have played thru the game 8+ times... it becomes difficult to watch cutscenes over and over and over again.... especially since you normally have to play each mission several times before finding a descent group to beat it.. it becomes very difficult to watch.
master_ranger_matt
disagreed. majority should rule. if 7 ppl want to skip, then the 8th guy who doesnt is out of luck. in elections do we let both canidates win or the most popular canidate lose? this is the same sort of thing.
TheYellowKid
Couple times ive had people sayin skip cutscenes, i jus ignore em or tell em im watchin it if i can be bothered, usually they'll ask afta who didnt skip so i tell em, then i always get the same response like the answer isnt obvious: I havent seen it.. then everytime its happened they say o ok
personally if ive never seen a cut-scene i dont see why i should have to skip because you've seen it.. ive got jus as much right to enjoy the game as everyone else, i dont feel sorry that u had to wait a little bit and watch something you've seen before thats jus tough and is something you have to deal with while playin an online game..

Nothing really to do with politics, and I'm sure that if the movie analogy happened to you, you'd be annoyed.
No, I'm not saying that cut scenes are THAT interesting, but.. without it, how would we know why our stand with the white mantle is the way it is throughout the game?
Can someone think of the new players? Just after christmas, there was an influx in them, and there will be again when factions comes out.

If you don't care about any story, or what the point is in saving this person, and just want to "kill! kill! kill!", that's fine. If you've seen it several times before and you don't want to see it again, that's fine of course too. But you have to admit that the cinematics provide valuable information on what is going on in Tyria (and Cantha, soon). Since everybody in the mission is moving on, then everybody has the right to know what's going on if they want to. Do not even bring majority votes and democracy into this. Even democracy requires unanimous votes on certain things, and I'd say that whether or not to skip something that lets you answer questions like "What the hell am I doing here?" or "Why am I trying to find this person?" in a role-playing game definitely qualifies. Forcing other people who haven't seen it to skip it is pretty selfish and short-sighted.
Speaking of selfish, telling others to "skip cutscenes, go back and play with henchmen if you want to see them" so you can save yourself 30 seconds (at the expense of someone else's hour) is one of the most completely ridiculous things that I've heard regarding this.
The person who ragequits with his guildies if someone doesn't skip a middle-of-the-mission cutscene because they're "wasting his time" is another one. "I can't spend 30 seconds watching this! Let's restart and spend a half hour getting here with someone else who will skip!". What?
If you can't stand watching cutscenes, then either don't make a new character, don't do any missions, or play it all with guildies/friends. Otherwise, you'll just have to deal with it.

i did not pay for a game just to have some selfish ass tell me to move on because he has already seen it.
you dont want to wait a few minutes in a mission?
ragequit and go
bleep you
DarK_AssassiN
I'm playing with my first character and I got yelled at because everyone else wanted to skip the cutscene (at the beginning; the first one). I just ignored them and got throught with the mission, but some people can really be jerks. They were new once too and I'm pretty sure they wanted to watch it then to. I mean, what's so important you have to take away the story from someone? Go to the bathroom or something during the cutscene...
lg5000
Oh.. the whole thing of skipping cut scenes suddenly reminded me of the fact that I, as mother, have certain responsibilities in regards to having the phone on-hand when the kids are not home in case of an emergency call. Incidentally, I believe those who want to skip cut scenes would be the same people who would now tell me that the 2 hours I have set aside to play GW, with phone next to me in case of emergency calls, would be best spend sitting infront of the phone waiting for said call to come.. because.. the 5-10 mins I'm gonna spend telling the kids that their emergency isn't a emergency, or the fact that if it is an emergency, the team gets told I have a family emergency, sorry, gotta go.. is going to be too long or just plain wrong for those groups.
Thank God there are groups that understand phone problems.

I agree with OP to the fullest extent possible to agree with. When i bought the game, i was so pressured into skipping scenes and everything, i Had no dam idea wat happened to ascalon, No idea why i took a boat to a desert, no idea that desert missions were quests to asscend, and no idea how prince rurik tried to kill me when i finally beat the fire missions. It wasnt until i made my second character and watched all scences that i know wat i missed out on. The pressure u receive when you are new is incredible as youre hoping to meet a freind, or try to act like everyone else just to fit in

However, if those 7 people have some complex that makes them chant "skip scene" several times, and lose control when someone who hasn't seen the cinematic doesn't skip it, then they are indeed being selfish.

now lets make this a little bit more clear as to who is the selfish jerk(s)
the 7 people have already had the chance to see and enjoy it as much as they want to.
someone comes along who has not had a chance to see or enjoy them is simply told to skip what the others have seen because the 7 are in a hurry.
what is funny aero is that if you hadnt had the chance to see them and some jerks ordered you to skip you would probably be saying you had a right to enjoy the game you paid for
Matsumi
I'm not in a hurry when I want to skip, I just want to
a) not be killed
b) not forced to watch the same movies over and over
I will sit and watch one however if there are some in the group that have never seen it, but I just don't think it's always about being in a hurry.

First Ill say I agreee with the OP so , /signed or whatever.
In regards to people saying its their right not too watch them, heres my spin on it. To damn bad, if people dont want too watch the cutscenes, then they shouldnt be playing in missions that have them, theres PvP for a reason. I dont care how many characters you have, how many times you've seen each scene, they are part of the game, and if you cannot deal with it go to the arenas, no cutscenes there.
As for newbies who want too watch but feel they are with a group of gripers, deny, deny, deny. And dont ever advertise that you want to watch the scenes, youll have trouble finding a group I suspect ?
People talking about rights, and what rights one has while playing, come on.... lets get to the core of the problem what it really comes down to is Anet has let a fairly major bug exist for far too long, so if having you minions die, or getting attacked during the scenes is killing your fun, then take the proper action, complain to Anet, which is essentially here(GWO), and make a poll of who want the cutscene bug fixed, GW is the first and only game Ive played where you can be killed and lose health or mana while in a cutscene, so If Anet fixed this problem it would eliminate a lot of the controversey no? Dont take out your frustration with the mechanics of the game on some unsuspecting newcomer, they are the future of this game you profess to love to play so bad you cant take a 20 second break without going into withdrawal .(/jking)
Essentially the first timers are being punished for Anets boo boo.
PS: I also agree with the previous poster who reccomends they remove the counter '5/8 have voted', why is that there if not too pressure the new player to skip ?

I can't believe this has spanned 8 pages. Just settle the skip issue before you click "enter mission", can't ya? What happened to communication and cooperation? I can see that the main problem here is that the majority of the players see other players as their private henchmen. This is comperatively a very minor issue and easily solved by just *talking* beforehand. The metagame has much much worse issues than this.

why cant they implement the same system that is on for hoh for pve missions? If you skip, you load and can wait for the others to appear (or get warped to town ealier) or you can stay and watch it, sure if someone stayed behond to watch a cutscene you would probably want to wait for him/her, but it would salve many of the problems faced by ppl dying and minions dying, and since there are always cutscenes at the end of missions, you would be able to get to town faster.

Mostly speculation, but it might also be problematic with how they do missions, groups, and cutscenes. If you skipped the movie at the end and it moved you to the city, the group would technically be in two places: at the end of the mission, and in the city. Nobody here can say what that would do, and trying to work around it would probably just make a lot more problems. A far easier solution is just to be invulnerable during cinematics.
jackie
It doesn't hurt to watch cutscenes. Enjoy the game and plot (please no griefs about the plot )...You can compare yelling about cinematic watchers to almost like skill capping in mission, if rest of the group wants to skip the boss, you have to come again to cap it by yourself. Same for cinematics. Couple minutes of waiting/helping won't hurt you so much...

Cutscenes make minions die.

I think Anet should (have made)/(make) it so that the game "freezes" during the cutscene, henche leaving the monsters frozen on spot and the minnions degen as it was. The way it is now, I wonder what happens to an almost dead warrior with a vampiric weapon.
I was happy enough that my first time round was mostly with guildies or understanding people. I mentioned everytime that I wanted to watch the cutscenes before entering, everybody that had a problem with that could have decided to leave or object so I could leave. I wouldn't want to be in a party with people that won't allow me to enjoy my game just because they want to rush (rushing bad!).

OMG i agree! Why shouldnt people be able to watch custences????? THATS WHY PEOPLE BUY GAMES! TO understand the story. The people who dont want to watch it and others who do, i think the people who dont want to watch should suffer. You buy the game for many reasons. One of them being a story line. DUH
