A few weeks ago a guild mate of mine was banned. It took him nearly 3 weeks and numerous emails to Anet to get it sorted. This guy is honest to a fault, so he could never understand what he had done to get the ban in the first place.
Eventually Anet came to their senses, with a response similar to "it appears that your account has been banned in error, we apologise for the inconvenience" and restored his account.
For all you ppl that have had this happen I hope it doesnt take this long to sort out, and for everyone else, lets hope it doesnt happen to us. GL guys

well in guild wars site it says that permanent bans will be permanent.. you think this damage can be undone if its a mistake? if not i dont know how they can pay for our loses... -- on the other hand maybe having too much valuable items is '''damaging the balance of the economy''' .... i really cant see something we all have in common .. anyone here that IS banned doesnt have factions and hasnt been to the dragon festival?

Well, I usually support ANet's decisions and am patient when they have bugs, as these things happen. But I sure hope the people aren't banned because of AFK title-farming on the rings. If so, I think this is terrible. ANet had to expect people would do exactly what they did. Also, what harm was done ? People sunk their gold into these titles, and that's it. I just can't imagine that this is the cause of the bannings. It is probably just another bug, not unlike the deleted pets in the Dragon Arena. So, if it is a bug, I'm sure ANet will work to correct the situation quickly, and if it's not, perhaps these people were banned for other reasons. ANet tends to ban people en masse for bots, so maybe this is the next batch.
On a lighter note, assuming against reason that the bannings were AFK title-farming related, I have a few suggested revisions:
50k tickets won - Charmed
100k tickets won - Lucky
250k tickets won - Living Dangerously
500k tickets won - Marked for Banning
2,500k tickets won - New Game Purchaser

OMG I GOT BANNED TOO. WAT HAPPENED???? I entered the game, but my game crashed (out of memory) so when i restart computer and type in my password boom banned (code =45). My other non-factions account didnt got banned though. I think the problems lie in a bug at the faction's festivals.

I think the only realistic thing anyone can do is simply post on forums and send emails to Anet. They might be on vacation or something but they will get back to you. If you truely did nothing wrong then there shouldn't be a problem bringing you back up.
Next time people see Gaile on, accually ask her something relevent and find out what happened, for some reason I dont see her coming on when something BAD is happening. But people need to ask her the real questions, not about minipets :-\

*Edit* ... still having trouble getting the support page to work and the email got an automatic response that sent a "please registar at the GW support page" message .. this is rediculous! How do they expect to keep customers this way? I'm beginning to thing they got their customer service training at the same place as AOL(AKA AO-Hell)!!! I'm so ticked ... I was just learning to solo chickens too

All i was doing was the Sanctum Cay mission with my necro and just about to finish cause the boat was comin and then i got logged out with a permanent ban
and i was so confused as i have NEVER used a bot (I dont even know how to get them for that matter

so is it happening to those who stay afk in the ring game or just errors on the server side which caused this massive banning! Cuz i spend like 30 minutes or so just running back and forth different rings, hopefully i won't get a perman-ban.

Im still banned, I did nothing wrong. Ive never had a complaint against my account or a strike, or any kind of suspension ever.
15k armor for 4 characters, over 5 million in items... 400k ingame cash... 20~custom swords 10 custom axes, 5 custom bows (including urgoz longbow) over 1300hours. I am very relieved that it is a mistake... yet...that is a very terrible mistake to make. I hope they unban me. Or I give up anet products for life.

It took my husband approx 2 hrs to get unbanned. He got a generic email then another asking for his acct name and some other info and then it took just a short while after that.

No kidding no one should be banned for being afk... if they don't want you afk they could at least kick you off. It sounds like the problem is getting fixed so that's good.

Well being July the 4th weekend I guess most were on holidays and away for the long weekend.I guess they must of left the automated bot scanner running and it thought some of you were bots maybe.I was there lastnight to but going afk shouldn't pose a problem even on a long quest.How and why bots would be there I don't know?

they are banning everybody who use bots for farming (now and before) and that is good (i hope they never get back accounts to those bot farming people)

Ty Lady Ana Stacia, sry if this comes off as a rant, just very frustraited that this would happen with no explainantion from Anet or NC .. there should be something on the log-in page. Frankly, I don't understand why they can't recognize that there is a problem, and then just un-ban ppl untill they can reconfirm the ones that are banned for a reason. That makes a whole lot more sense than spending all this time looking at all the accounts that got banned acidentally .. they could even just do that with say the last 4 - 5 hrs. just reverse all those bans and then re-ban the ones they confirm.

i ask gaile (id1 shing jea now) about the bannings, apparently there was around 4000 accounts banned assumed all bots, but they got humans by mistake. to get unband just inform anet support

I was in a long forgotten game by now I am sure ... Asheron's Call years ago, and that absolutly RUINED the game. The greatest parts that I love about GW is the lack of the ability for "griefers" to make the game miserable for others. In AC, you couldn't have your own play area, you had to share the same laggy crappy space as everyone else, and if you weren't the biggest baddest guy in the room, you couldn't get the kill on the boss mob .. that and ppl had bots with what we refered to as "macros" that allowed them to have a chr play night and day and if you happened to have a desire to hunt the same place, sucked to be you! You had to deal with the Mage that was exploiting a trick that allowed him to get stuck in a corner high above all the mobs that just drained and drained till they died, but if you tried to even walk there you could bearly move! So props to Anet and NC for preventing that sorta thing.
I just don't understand why it is taking several hours for this to be resolved, and nothing has been said (that I know of) to explain the circumstances behind the problem.
The other thing I love about Anet is that they stop the use of 3rd party programs! AC's balance was severly skewed by this practice ... skills impress me, not bots
