Just how ARE you supposed to make money?
Ventius Hozza
(-By playing the game -) = Lvl 20 + Completed + FoW/UW occasionally = Not very much tbh
(-HoH -) = Be correct rank + GET to tombs + beat ghosts + get to HoH + get an item = Not very easy for a relatively new player
(-Run ppl -) = 90% slower. = No, just no.
(-Farm -) = Take 30 mins to kill what used to take 3 mins = Forget it
(-Trade -) = Take your TIME = Is this the only way that ANet wants us to make money? Besides, this and farming are basically linked.
I suppose most of these are to do with time... i know i didnt but an MMo to play occasionally, but this is ridiculous.
Nice ploy by ANet to get us to play for longer? Not sure to be honest

i got Dungeon Seige years ago and a lot of the fun went out of it when i found out how to duplicate items (no i did not pass it around) and it was so easy to *just this once* to trick out a new character rather than playing it .
the challenge was gone even if i played it because i knew that with a bit of code i could stop wasteing time doing this and have everything.

"A penny saved is a penny earned" always works for me. Never buy anything other than simple basic stuffs or necessary upgrades from any human trader. They trade for only one reason: to make you poorer and themselves richer.

It has been repeated a zillion times now: "You do not need 15K armour"
I do not 'need' it, I know. But am I really such a fool to 'want' it? Perhaps all people who want something to wear to look good are fools. Vanity is a sin, and all that. But people enjoy looking cool. Maybe you think that is really stupid of them, as they should not care about how they look to others. If you think that, you are going to have a hard time understanding most inhabitants of the real world. I suggest you move to the planet Vulcan.
The things you have to do to get the 15K (let alone the Fissure armours) are BORING (farming a hell of a lot lot, solo-farming a lot or trading a lot). Some people like it. Good for them. But for me this represents a grind.
An auction house would make getting 15K armour a lot easier for me. That is why I want Anet to put one in the game soon. I do not NEED them to put one in, I WANT them to put one in. And I think the game would be more fun if they did for a lot of casual (PVE)-players, a type of player that is underrepresented on forums such as these.

an auction house would be great.
but for now im getting by okay. i have a guildie that i go two peroson uw farming with(maybe once or twice a week, 2 man is much more entertaining than solo. its good to have a friend with ya), and every once in awhle i hop into fissure(with a full party) hoping to get a shard.
within a couple of runs, we almost always have an ecto apiece from the uw. after about a week, i usually have enough for most of the pieces of the 15k armor i want, because i SALVAGE EVERYTHING i dont want, hence, my storage is full of materials. if i dont have want i want, i go to a crafter(parchment is sooo much cheaper if crafted for 5wood and 20g), or sell materials i dont need for the ones i do. this has successfully helped me get 3 sets of 15k armor, and im working on a fourth. to those who want fissure armor...i really dont know what to tell you, you have to be an e-bayer, or REALLY hardcore to get it...and i honestly like the 15k better

You may not need it, but if you want it so badly, you would do what it takes to get it.
I honestly dont see a problem here, people are complaining because theres something in a game thats hard to get, because most of them want it to be handed to them.
The reason so many people are arguing over it, is because its a fundamental, some people think you should have to put in alot of time to buy the best* armour, some dont.
*I use the term best loosely, as far as Im concerned, if you want it so bad, it must be the best armor to you, and thus should be worth the time it takes to get it. Im not just talking about armour statistics, here

they also said it would come AFTER OBSERVER MODE as they want to get it right the first time and not have your items go poof or have a slipped decimal point.
i hope before chapter 2 or it might be introduced along with chapter 2.
you will not need chapter 2 for any auction system they come up with.
it will be here but not quickly. (hope i am wrong)

IMHO, the problem here is not the Ascended armour. The Ascended armour is extremely reasonably priced, even the most expensive complete set, Warriors Platemail, runs to about 90 plat in total. And at 15 plat to 20 plat per piece, its a goal that any player can work towards with achievable stages.
The problem lies more in items that are SINGULARLY ridiculously expensive - Fissure armour pieces, certain greens and items. These items cost well over 100K (or in the case of certain Fissure pieces, in excess of 250 plat). That's an incredibly hefty investment, and such a single huge sum is something that seems incredibly distant and remote to most players.
Basically, the problem is that there's no in between - 15K is a achievable target, but beyond that, prices take a steep jump, and there's no happy medium ground for players to work towards. Pre-nerfs, there was, since money (and ecto) flowed reasonably well. Now? The next goal requires an exponential investment in time, something that's extremely disheartening.
Oh, and for the usual spiel of it being the player's choice to obtain these items, and the usual rebuttal that Collectors offer similarly powered items, those arguments are BLATANTLY FALSE in many cases. Where are the collectors for items with stats like Brohn's Rod? Malinon's Shield? A 15>50 axe? That's right - they don't exist.

I like to open chests and keys cost money. Hence my problem ha.
Basically what I do is when one toon is full of items to sell, I switch to a new toon and by the time the second toon is full of items I usually have sold two or three of items on the first character. The rest get salvaged. This helps to maintain some gold flow for my keys muahaha

Getting Money:
1. Chest runs, buy some keys, skill to warrior as second class, get some running skills and just get those crates.
2. While publicly wide known Monkbuild with Bonettis Defense/smiting does not work any longer, there are still monks that can easily farm 12k per hour.
Underworld farming is also still possible in two man teams. (Expect 1 ekto every 100 opponents, which is around every hour.) I know this, because I do this, think a little for yourself and you will come up with a workable build.
3. some warrirors try to farm Ettins for runes these days, but the gold/hour yield is too low in my opinion.
4. Go to the fissure first. You can create a medium sized team of non quitters (6 people), sure shards are of less value than ektos but they drop more regularly. But only the Fissure can give you golden Chaos Axes from Crates, plus it is very easy to play by using the book to lure enemies.
You can earn a lot there if you really salvage all your drops, convert them to vellum and sell them off to the rare mat. trader. (regular salvage kits will suffice)
Do this and you will be able to shell out on all the 15k armors you ever wanted. As for the FoW armor: It sucks farming it, always has, always will. Consumes too much time, if some got lucky when the prices reset who cares.
Think of it: The person who stated tat he bought the ectos for aroun 1k when the prices reset. He claims he still has 500 of them. So he already had 500k+ WHEN the prices reset. He was by no means poor. He just got even richer.

The biggest problem I see, is henge swords and axes.
These items are very very desirable to PvP players especially, and as they have now been taken out of the game the price is going nowhere but up. It was a bad move to have them IN the game, but why a-net decided to take them out is beyond me. The same also goes for the 20% rockmoulders.
As far as armour goes, it IS your choice to buy fissure. It has no practical advantages what so ever over normal armour. Green weapons and items? Theres only two or three that are better than PvP items, and if we aren't talking about PvP, whats the big deal? Its not like a few percent off perfect makes any difference in PvE.

those items do not make or break a team. all comes down to skills and runes. always has always will.

The majority of other things are available from collectors. Some things aren't (most notably a rod for Healing bonus) but the rest of the gear most people will use is available at not too great a cost e.g. Battle axes from shiverpeaks/desert 15% while in enchanted/stance, and the crimson carapace shield -2 while in stance, as well as various other items such as fire wands/artefacts, monk offhand items, mesmer staffs/canes/etc. Again, things like Brohn's Holy Rod are great if you are lucky/rich enough to get one but can't be considered essential.
Point is quite a lot of things which are sold at ridiculous prices e.g. gold items and even a good number of green ones, the collector gear is usually better in terms of stats.

Well, I'd like to remind people that money is also needed to buy skills which are pretty expensive after the recent price changes. I made about 100k total with my first character after release by just playing PvE without any farming except for some collector's stuff. After a 2 months break I started a 2nd and 3rd character to unlock most of the skills for PvP because it's still faster than buying everything with faction (I prefer using it for mods/runes). Since I'm not a dedicated PvP player I finished all missions and quests along the way although I didn't explore the maps fully like the first time. At the end of the game my character still lacks about 30 normal skills which cannot be obtained by skill quests. That's 30k gold which you need cash to buy them plus 7.5k for Droknar's armour (and some spare gold for armour along the way if you don't pay runners). Due to being "forced" to buy signets of capture for the elite skills you use up the early cheap prices for skills rather quickly and are left with the max. prize at the end.
If my math doesn't totally fail me that's above 100k a player would need but the drops seem to be far worse than after release because I have to fund new characters with money from the first one. They don't earn enough money to get along fully by themselves. ANet seems to have imposed a gold grind on regular players who don't need/want Fissure Armour, godly weapons or whatever but the regular joe who plays the game and maybe plans to switch to PvP.
I don't mind farmers who wish to buy some rare vanity items but I really wish ANet would not harm the legendary casual player in their quest to drain gold out of the economy.

Although I don't quite understand the picture, I'll take a venture and say I agree. This is just as bad as the November 10th update and the pluther of complaints that arose from it.
Quite frankly, if you want it, be patient. Farm collector's items and sell them for a couple platinum in the earlier areas of the game. Odds are at that point newer players would be willing to shell out what gold they have for perfect items because they don't have that "I need money to buy 15k armour" attitude yet. Nothing pleases me more than sitting in Marhan's Grotto or Granite Citadel and hearing someone say "wtf, the stats are the same. im not getting this, whats the point?".
Also, there are COUNTLESS farming builds on this site, and every fansite for that matter. If you don't have that class, then make one. Don't whine that your class can't farm because someone hasn't already found a method for you to copy. Some classes can't do it as well as others, accept your limitations or prove them otherwise. These items were put into the game so hardcore gamers have something to strive towards. A casual player can't expect to compete on the same level of wealth as these people. Money is like fame, and neither one represents a player's level of skill.

An Example: After finding out that there was a focus that got you -2 energy with a couple of nice bonuses as one of the 50% chance rewards in the cities of ascalon quest, 5 of the people I know started farming that quest. Which means making a new character, taking them all the way through pre-searing, doing probobly the longest quest in the early part of the game, (having to do North Wall/Ranik/Surmia) for a 50% chance of getting the focus.
Is it that great? No, but it is better than anything else going, which is why they did it. If you consider yourself good at playing a monk, for instance, you would want the BEST weapon sets. And by good I mean playing at a near top level of play.

Being a complete newb at this, only having the game a little over a week. I was over the moon getting 700g for a vial of silver dye!
I am busy saving up for items, just as I would in the real world. The items are for practicallity reasons and not looks. Looking good and dying lots is not my idea of fun, having a challenge is much better for me.
I'm currently running a N/W level 9 and she is great fun to play. I have no idea on what I should play, PVP or PVE? So currently I'm PVP. I don't know if I should go to arenas? I have the special edition which came with an unlock code but I have to see a priest of balthazar, which I am assuming is in the arena areas (I assume because I find no reference to them anywhere else)
I like the idea of trading, but wished they would have created a way to barter more with the merchants.
I would like to be able to unlock abilities to open chests without keys, I don't think they are available are they? It could be usefull for the new character class?
Everything has a value! In the real world you have people earning a living on ebay, so why not in an online community? Yes I WANT a supercar but I don't NEED a supercar, if I had the money would I buy one? Yes, if I did not need the money for something I NEED.
I am on the look out for items that others would probably say is of no real value at all, I currently have a truncheon with 6-11 dark damage and an axe with 11-16 damage, so looking to just upgrade from that. Yet I don't see many people selling gear priced for lower end users. I don't want weapons that will kill most of my enemies in one or two strikes, for the current level I am at.
Looks are important for some people and they spend a lot of money on looking good or different, true both online and real world.
It is human nature to want the best of something, but sometimes you have to compromise along the way.

If ANet made EVERYTHING easy to get - be it black dyes, FoW Armor, 15/50 weapons - the same people would complain, after getting those, there is not enough content in the game.
Point is, those things are meant to be very difficult to get - just like Tiger emote or winning the hall for PvP players.
And if you don't have it? It does not affect your capabilities at all. You can do the same damage and defend against the same attack as anyone. Hell - almost every weapon in game looks exactly the same (except for the obvious crystallines and fellblades and etc)!!
Only the moron in PvP arena that needs to Control click his green bow allows me to understand why his 'green' is cooler than my PvP Bow.
Then of course he casts mending FTW.

100k / hour :
flesh golems : gold cash + gold drops.
the "100k" is probably too much, but the idea is here : you made a lot more than after all the nerfs. Not talking about underworld solo, where 100k/hour was (is ?)EASILY possible.
Personally I don't care now, I play 99% pvp. The pve frustrated me too much. Really. Why do you think koreans just gave up the game ?

they were only a small fraction to begin with.
GW doesnt have the grind factor (for a term) and the continous reward system of the most popular games over there.
what most complainers miss is that anybody coming in expecting the same old same old will be either poorly or happily surprised.
GW is staking out new territory as a nitch market and nobody knows how big that *nitch* may become.
possibly that NITCH MARKET may grow to equal the others (or not) but one thing is sure.
a relatively few forum complaints will not steer them far from what they have planned.
i am one of the nitch players this game calls to and i am having fun with it.
800+ hours from presell and still having PVE fun

i used to farm the trolls outta droks, getting some black dye and some good crap once and a while, took a break from game, got on, NERFED. the trolls run from spiteful and mark of pain and junk and i can t farm. so i stopped farming, selling what i had, made 100k. spent on 15k armor. now this is drastic, and very sad for someone to do, lol i scammed someone (i know, i know its low) and got 40k off them, and gave it back because it was a "new" player (lvl 10 in droks?). then im banned, so i have to wait 160 sumthin hours. 46 to go! WOOT! lol, now i still ahve to figure out how to make money. before i got banned i ran the northern wall 400g a piece, pretty good. but slow, or go into FOW or UW. same with me, honestly, buy for low, sell high, ( example - wtb iron 8g each, sell for 11g each) or sell some stuff u get from uw or fow like ecto. other than that your screwed, im pretty poor (80k) well, i hope there is sumthin we can find to help this out.

Best way to make money... don't try. Don't worry about it. You don't need it.
Go play.
Go play.

Why do people say that just playing the game will give you enough to buy 15 k armor? I've played since May for about 2-3 hours a day and still have seen no more than 40k in my total bank account
Goonter
I dont know that to be true either.
Maybe, at one point in time, just playing throught the game and even through UW and places like that would have earned you a full set of 15k armor, (crafting materals and dyes too) and then your broke, assuming you never pick up a superior absorbtion rune or something.
15k armor are pretty hard to obtain without some sort of farming if even just a little to get you over the hump.
I think tombs was designed to get fortune quickly in this aspect when farming wasnt considered a serious option or threat.

"Beating a Dead Horse" pointless and will not accomplish anything.

To me, I am not done with a game until I have beaten it...solo. That's without henchmen (unless it's absolutely, positively impossible to do).
That is the most frustrating yet satsifying thing anyone can do keep their interest in the game.
Doing that also provides you with a good amount of money to support your adventuring exploits...much more satisfying than farming any day of the week.

some people finished the game in 3 days and i didnt get my first character out of presear for a week.
i still keep one presear because it is a fun pretty place just to wander for a vacation.
same for my guild island as a vacation spot and when guild storage is done i will have extra space for goodies.
i simply give away the golds/purples i find to new players to watch them have fun.
i got a non perfect (always nonperfect) deadbow with 19 % longer enchanting today that i will keep but why couldnt it have been 20% so it would be perfect?

A new player arrives at GW. At some point he ears about the FOW armor.
He wants it. Well he can't have it. He can't afford it.
Then somebody says: "Hey! You don't need it, it's only cosmetics!"
What's the new player thinking?
"Why does it exists if I can not have it?" - of course
IF nobody can afford the FOW armor AND it's only cometics THEN why doesn't Anet takes it way like i.e. the HoD sword?
Who has the FOW armor, keeps it, who hasn't, will never get it.
Bottom line: If nobody can have, WHY THE HELL DOES IT EXISTS??
