Just how ARE you supposed to make money?
BooRay
I am a "noob" really. Playing a lvl12 m/ne and read the entire thread on making money. Despite the fact that I understand half of the lingo/verbage I think the bottom line for players like me, the noobs is to just play the game and do the quests/missions and pick up items and gold as I go.
I looked on ebay and actually though about buying gold online, not sure if thats a good idea since I think as a noob I would rather earn my gold the traditional way by just playing the game, and I dont trust that ebay gold right off the cuff.
Lastly, I see posts about these invini monks ect. Not really sure what those are but assuming they are lvl20's with a ton more exp than I have.
For now as a self professed old newb I am just going to play the game, hopefully not get scamed again...another story and enjoy the game.

pick up all your drops, be carefull with your money and youll get what you need. Once youve beaten the game you will have a better understanding of what skills do what, and dont snub collector items some of them are very good once you get to the desert area and most are easy to get, (there are good times before that but imo there not worth getting as youll soon replace them).

And when you do turn your eye to farming your me/ne can go me/mo and go invinci farming yourself(just 1 option, but the best for beginners).
but dont bother yourself with it now just play the game and enjoy.

I m playing for 2 months now with a Ranger warrior, and I was able to buy the set of armor I liked at Droknar and with collectors, and this hammer:
It's only because I wanted the +15% always with -5 energy that I didn't buy the 5K one at Droknar, but anyway, I had to buy the perfect upgrades.
I was able to buy the superior vigor rune, and spent almost 100K on weapons, dyes and armor for testing. Only farming some holy griffons outside camp rankor... And I ve got about 80K in storage... If you really want money if this game, you can make it... I m only in the desert, and I m waiting to do the coops there while having some fun in competitive arenas...
Now, I really like my set of armor, and never encountered someone with the same combination. No need of fissure armor or whatever to feel "unique"

I read that part of the economy problem lies with the newbs that want everthing right from the start. They want the gold, they want the armor and the weapons without going through the experience of the game. They want tons of money, hence its supply and demand issue, econ101. Sad IMO.
Only play PvE right now and have no idea what PvP has in store for me or what to do there. But for now, I will just go out look around, pick items up, salvage them or sell them to the merchants or other players that are buying with the understanding what prices goods are selling for. Got scamed already on black dye, never again will that happen, but a noob mistake I admit.
Thanks again, Onward you Monk, Onward!

I think that salvaging items for crafting materials and then waiting until you have 250 of each then selling them to material crafter or indeed the merchant depending on which gives you the highest price is a very good way to make money.
PhsycoTimmay
I find that by taking all the items that I find along the way of killing things, and salvaging them, and saving them. I end up with 250 of many things, maybe not rare materials per say. But like I have 250 tanned hides, 250 bolts of cloth, 250 iron ingots, and quite a good number of rare crafting materials that sell for a pretty penny to players. This nets me a few K a day if I can find the buyers.

And its really easy to get those tanned hides back, or any other material for that matter.

Ok i make 100-150k Farming between droknar and rankor to clear all avicara, troll, giants, what little grawl there are as well. My runs take average of 40-50min depending on spawn, All mesmer and necros included as a 55 mo/w.
only 3 skills i use outside of what it takes to acheive the 55 effect are balance stance soj and zelots. when useing heals only cast them 5-6 seconds apart this eliminates aoe trigger to run. balance stance is used for giants. stomp loses all effect in this stance. When taking on these bolder rocketing beasts stance and cast soj and just heal yourself attacking the troll as needed and let them kill themselves. Use bonetti to sheild any spell other then PS unless SOJ is up then bonetti will negat effect of soj til bonetti is ended. The trolls have alot of interupt and seem to get thru stance alot.
If they interupt you go nuts and make them run far out. then bonetti to sheild let it end itself take 1-2 hits ps to heal again and bonetti instantly after. repeat til skill recharges. zelots is your staple dmg and mildly effective thanks to the aoe nerf. Keep this running. grawl have to be taken slowly try to keep it 6 or less and just conserve nrg ,they attack slow.occasionally i find a grawl crone that can rend enchant but is rare. As for mesmer avicara
Just keep heals up and not over heal nrg can get tight especially if ya get a counteracting hex or 2 or 3 or 4.lol but keep at it and you'll learn to handle it and come out alive.

if you suddenly get 100k from a known ebay account you could lose (permanently) your own account along with all the time, loot, and your ebay gold.
not worth the risk to me

of course purple and gold items are gifts from gods and vary at any point in time I average 4 purple 2-3 gold drops a run at least 2 are major runes.
I have found sup vigors and many black dye.
1 run i start with 3 salvages and 2 id and 2 expert salvage kids for i fill my inventory 3 times over.
I average 5k a run more with favor in cash 100-250 hide/iron, 75-100 cloth,
200-400 wood,20-30 steel, and the color modded wepons net 2-3k selling to trader if not worth anything. I always superior id anything purple or gold. on gold armors or wepons with awsome mods i always superior salvage.
Mind you i have 2.4 mil exp on my monk. I have been doing this a while. my guildies make 50k a day easy farming for an evening. when i do it i spend a day load up with what gold wepons i want to give out and then bank the rest. i sell wood but hide and iron i give to recruits. my runs net me 15k average every 40-50 minutes, not including the gold and purple wepons or the wood. as for the 55 build you can get it from the campfire. Hope this answers your questions. enjoy.

wow too bad I quit the game about 2 months after release until about 1 month ago (almost a year) and I come back to nerf city with the economy jacked up
VampiricuS
GW economy will go insane once factions is released imo. when all these people start finding all these cool weapons, who will have the gold to buy them? and how many more will use ebay to buy their gold because of it. lets hope it all balances out.

If anet takes a hands off position the economy will balance itself out. Notice everytime they put thier hands in the economy something goes crazy then they have to fix that and the cycle repeats itself. However since SF the economy has balanced out.
With Factions prices may go up at first but they will balance out according to supply and demand.
TimberOwl
Maybe Anet is trying to eradicate the problems caused with routine farming in GW atm. And their solution is factions, by introducing a whole new game (Or so it seems) they have a hope that all the bored players who exploited the game will move to factions and pvp to escape the daily grind. Therefore allowing all the noobs to take over the old GW and Anet can restore their beloved economy. But if factions doesn't perform the way they hoped, the whole situation will start again with the new factions players getting bored of factions and coming back to exploit the now balanced noob economy in the original GW..
*sigh* I doubt Anet will ever get this right in a Non-Monthly fee basis... But thats what makes GW great right?............-_-

I dont thing there is anythi Anet can to do "fix" the problem without making if worse than it is. Other than as you say make a new game with an entirely different style economy.

to make money.. always bring a sup salvage kit... salvage for ingots- weapons shield/ wood-bows rare materials parchements-scrolls, stell ingots-weapons, if you farm you will get your gold back.. at a steady speed depending on how you farm yes..and luck is matter if you get a sup vigor or a sup absorb...selling a good weapon how to find a buyer..ebayers tend to have money.. but the normal people farming dont really spend their gold.. their thought is.. i made 100 k.. if i spend half of it i will never get it back...people are cautious on buying items thinking gold wont come back at the rate they spent it..most i ever had was 200 k.. and at around 60 k.. in maybe 10 days of selling stuff..mostly materials and runes..
plus for those not knowing you can use a identifying kit on a white item to get more bang for your buck.

WasAGuest
The only way to fix and maintain an economy is to take away the players ability to trade directly to another player. Forcing players to use the NPC traders (ie Material Traders and such) that can regulate supply and demand. It's only way I can see ANet making the economy work.
I on the other hand, just don't buy anything from others and will always use what I find.
How do I make money though, currently I have around 100k in the pocket and I got that just by going through the quests, salvaging for stuff and selling (to NPCs) stuff that my character really doesn't want and or need.
I could probably have a lot more money selling those Major Runes and Black Dyes I find to players, but I don't have the time or patience to sit in a town trying to sell my stuff. I want to play, not market.

I mentioned that I know I will never be as rich as those that sit and sell their farmed goods, but as I stated; that's just not what I wanted to do. If the OP doesn't feel like marketing then I mearly offered a suggestion and mentioned that I have done well enough to get what I needed and wanted.
As with any and all of my posts, they are just my thoughts... hear them, head them, flush them... makes little difference to me.

I don't spend too much time on GW, but i have 66k, 4 greens, 3 golds, 1 purple, 2 superiors, 2 sword hilts, and my personal favorite, my lovely Rago;s Flame Staff.I seriously have no room for other items so i need to get rid of all the junk(I already gave a guildie a green, that shows how desperate i am to get rid of them...)
Nvm, 2 greens and 73k now....

Sell them all on the auction. That's what it's for.
Lambentviper
And if you are sick of salvaging, and have a decently high character in pre-searing, just solo the northlands. I usually got about 3-4 purple items up there a run with my 15 Mo/W.
Go back to Ascalon, sell them for 300-500g each, rinse, repeat.

I thought I was doing good banking 8K and then I see these posts with 100-200K bank rolls from a single night of farming. I have one question "I NEED A LOAN, JUDGES ARMOR FOR THE MONK IS EXPENSIVE"...... lol

It would be cool if Anet gave us some interest on our storage accounts. Even 5% would be awesome.

haha storage interests, that would be fun

well you can always run around ascalon asking for money saying your a noob or dance for money...lol. Unfortunate but you see a ton of this happening now. bad enough you see it on the streets, and now you see it on gw. lazy idiots. i just go farm out of augury and hope to get good drops. never do though.

How do you make money? Well of course the "old fashioned way" you EARN IT! (smile)

I made about 80k from buying Candy Cane Shards and then selling them for 100 gold more and then I made about 130k on the Candy Canes
