my 11% isn't really up to the job
Hi Miss,
I have been using this build with a +16% enchanting sword (and only 185 att pts) and having no probs with hydras, griffons, trolls, phys dmg avicaras, drakes, UW, etc. I just recently found a +19% axe, so I could hook you up with that sword if you want. Just message me in game. Good luck.

Avarre, I just want to say that you're my hero.

Ok, so I'm still working on that last one, but anyway, you've proven difinitively that mesmers are the best class in the game. I love this build, but am still working out the kinks of Nightmare recognition and targeting. Would perhaps something like guilt be a substitute for power drain as an attempt at a smaller version of Spellbreaker (what 55 monk primaries use)?

Guilt is an idea... but it has a 2 second casting time (reduced of course, yet still slower than power drain), and doesn't give any definite advantages over power drain. Plus it has a longer recharge time.
Not that you couldn't use it, it would give the same effect. But I'm not sure if it cancels a spell already being cast when you apply it... I'll check that once im out of ToPK
Mesmers really need a spell mirror of some sort... there are a lot of spells that scream 'mesmer' and are of a different class, completely out of place... spiteful spirit for one (its the only 'deals damage when attack' skill on the necro list, and all the others are on mesmer)... blegh :/

Yes, the casting time is longer, but it would serve more as a safety blanket. I.e. since I have occasionally only located nightmares in time to watch rend enchant finish as I go to click power drain, guilt would be something I could cast closer to hearing the nightmare spawn, and would hopefully cover me long enough to take down the nightmare. Dunno, just a thought. I prob. just need more practice, though (tough to do when you're this poor )

Except that guilt is a targetted hex stating that 'the next time target foe casts a spell that targets a foe' and not an enchantment that gives blanket cover, unfortunately
So you'd still have to target the nightmare!

Touche. Well, thanks for saving me the 1k to learn that one myself.

Well it works for Necros since its a pissed off spirit whos curse is put on some dude.

That's just the skill name, the effect is much more akin to mesmer skills

The picture looks much more like a Necro skill.

Thank you for that completely redundant statement.

Effect. Effect. The thing where it says 'whenever target foe...'
The picture and name are tailored to the class in which it is put.
In any case, vastly offtopic... if anyone wants to debate the placement of Spiteful between curse and dom, pm me or something

Spiteful would be suited better with Dom mesmer since it's really an Empathy on Steroids and has nothing similar with Curses.

After a couple of false starts, my first 'proper' run got me two ectos and a ruby... I was so pleased, I lost concentration and died on the second group of smites
Thank you so much for sharing the build, Avarre!

Quick Question, is there a huge difference 40 dmg a sec on IW with lvl 10 fast casting or 42 dmg a sec with lvl 8 fast casting?
01 Feb 2006 at 02:21 - 155
Fast casting isn't a huge requirement, as it's not as if prot spirit and healing breeze have huge cast times
I'd stick with the higher damage, for sure.

The only reason i wondered about the fast casting and IW damage was because twice now, A grasping Darkness has interrupted my Power Drain while i was trying to interrupt rend enchantments. Both times the nightmare was behind the Darknesses and i couldn't wait for all of them to use there disrupting blow ><.

D'oh! That's aggravating lambchop. Was this in the main room (where you start) or in the room between there and the smites? I never have this problem inthe main room...I make sure the whole area is clear of NM's before I take that quest. In the second room, I can see where there might be a problem with this...maybe try drawing the mob with a bow (if you haven't been doing this already)? Otherwise I don't believe one more point in fast casting with get it off with 3 grasps distracting you at once.

Ive made a similar build but silightly different. The darknesses are my worst enemies in a UW run, the rest is pretty easy.
PS: And im not using Illusionary weaponry as my main dmg

Well it seems like a curse. Lots of Necro cruses work the same kind of way. Only fitting that it could be a Necro skill. Also, this would make a shitload of Me/Mos if they had SS.
