I don't believe it is affected by profession. Flatbow/longbow/stormbow have the longest range at 100' - it is longer if you have elevation...
We also need a mission teaching targetting.
Seriously, you could just have everyone choose a colour. Yellow, red, blue, green... lots of colours out there. Still keep the separate servers...

Well, in the beginning on the game you don't have a ton of options, but Life Siphon and Conjure Phantasm will get you through a heck of a lot....
