Eh, the low base damage is because of dual attacks and dual strikes.. everyone knows that..

With an IAS it's easy to get 1 second casts.. any attack buff would be very overpowered, as mentioned.

Well.. warrior skills, "Watch Yourself!", Bonetti's Defense; monk protection skills, but that isn't really playing assassin now

Switch mending for vigorous spirit. Don't agree with it, but it is the better skill.
