Well I know what you mean but IMO it happens later rather than earlier.. For example my primary is a e/me and I enjoyed having fire line and dom...

or even better ArenaNet adds the quest later, and even if you do that quest you wont get the skill point back (boo!)

further these things only last so long and there are recovery times for spells so I'm not sure I'd write off extra degen spells as a bad...
