ANET will eventually fix it. Until then learn to bring rend enchantments. (referred to as de-smiting the smiter)

Thekolman has it right. Zealous upgrade with +5 defense grip, +15% while in a stance. Stance-based Strength Shield.

Well warriors always suffer a bit of incedental damage, and the loss of energy is only like 2. Thats why it is a bit of a tougher decision.
