Maybe this will encourage people to abandon FA and go to JQ.

At the moment I think the only thing *left* to 'unlock' would be weapon skins. Skins don't affect pvp in any way, though.

You have to do it. And yeah, it can be rather annoying (especially if you've already finished Nightfall once).
