No, a fresh start is best.

Asking to have your characters imported is selfish. Basically, you are saying to A-Net, "I'm a valued customer so I should be treated differently than everyone else." This is wrong. Everyone should be treated the same and be given equal opportunities. Imagine this scenario: You are in a store buying a product which will require a major investment. This investment could be time, money, labor, or a combination of the three. As you're waiting in line you notice the person ahead of you is also buying this same product. As this person approaches the cashier he/she says, "Since I've spent so much money here in the past I should get a discount, right? Oh, and can you put this together and call me when it's ready?" Imagine how you would feel when they comply to his request yet still charge you in full. Unfair? Unjust? This person probably hasn't spent any more than a regular customer in a given timeframe, however he coerces them with a slefish tactic to get ahead. And, no, he didn't have a discount card.

Many games require lots of time and effort to succeed. Final Fantasy, Everquest, Asheron's Call, Lineage, Phantasy Star, etc, etc. It takes a long time in Final Fantasy to level all your characters to 99. However, with every new game you start over at level one. Why should Guild Wars be any different? Why should any game with a completely different timeline or world allow this? The entire concept is absurd. It may seem like a reasonable tactic to keep customers happy, but all it will accomplish is alienating one player base from another.

*Edit* Besides, why would A-Net trash GW1 when GW2 is released? I doubt they would make such a poor business decision.

I need to know more about GW2 before I can make this decision. I love my primary (Carinae), but she'll pretty much HAVE to lose items, armor, titles(?), money, and SKILLS, etc. Won't she?

Will there even BE necromancers in GW2? Will they work anything like current necros?

Will she LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME?

Although, I will say this.....It would rock if Anet allowed highly invested PvE characters to transfer somehow as a PERK to those people to supported GW1. But there are too many unknowns currently.

I wouldn't mind losing stats and items but it would be nice to carry my character over

No, for a start there would be new character creation models, character skins, armour skins, weapon skins. It wouldnt work without morphing the old game with the new, therefore it wouldnt be new. Thats what expansions are for.

Its a new game, new start, new stuff. Even if you could port them they probably wouldnt look the same anyway.

.
Loyal customers get a lot of benefits and special offers, you know, nothing selfish there.

Over all the RPG games I've played I've mostly been creating the same characters over and over again. So I'd definitely prefer being able to transfer my GW1 characters to GW2. If that isn't possible, I'll be recreating them... but it sure would have been nice if my old characters be automatically partially (name and looks at least) transferred to the new game.

Personally, I think the fact GW2 is supposedly hundreds of years in the future has no effect on this. Most players care a lot more about their own characters than the GW storyline... so even if it makes no sense storywise, I'm betting lots of players will be re-creating their old characters for GW2.

The only way I would consider doing a completely fresh start and make all new characters is if GW2 drops the fantasy theme and goes modern/sci-fi since it's hundreds of years in the future. I'm guessing GW2 will have the same fantasy setting though.

It is human nature not to want to give up something voluntarily.

If the question was rephrased to "Would you be upset if (and would refuse to buy) Guild Wars 2 didn't allow you to take over your GW1 characters?", I bet the response would be much different.

Yes. I want to move on, but not start over again. Atleast not so soon.

So either GW2 with the same characters, or more episodes in the GW1 timeframe with the same characters.

I think that you are thinking similar to me.

A NEW Guild Wars is just that....new. Who knows if they will have the same profession classes as we know them now. They may have Ele's, but maybe they don't use Fire or Water spells. Maybe they will retool what a Warrior is and what skills they have. Maybe they will be dual weapon wielders and look more like Barbarians. Maybe they will do away with Paragons. Maybe the Assasin will become more like what we thought they would be before Factions came out.

Too many maybes at this point. However, and it kills me to think it or say it, I think GW2 should be a brand new start. A clean slate for everyone. I love my ele character and have invested more time and platinum in her than should be allowed. But I will say a fond farewell and promise to visit her from time to time

Plus this is like 2 years away. I may not even give a crap about GW by that time LOL

Actually, reserving the character name would probably be the easier option. If there was some sort of final quest towards the end of GW1 (and before GW2 opened) that allowed you to reserve your character's name for GW2.....IT WOULD BE PERMANENTLY RESERVED FOR YOU EVEN IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO CREATE A CHARACTER WITH THAT NAME.

Because, unfortunately, otherwise, there will be a rush of wannabes grabbing name of senior players.

I don't want to speak for them, but Racthoh, Savio, Carinae, Avarre (and many many more known PvEers) we've all had copycats already. It would piss me off to have someone beat me to my own name....not to mention reputation/identity thieves.

If they REALLY discontinue GW and go for GW2 instead, i just switch to Hellgate:London. I'm not going to start over.

But until i see proof, i don't believe GW2 is a fact.

Yeah, who even talked about GW2? From what I know they'll just release chapter after chapter.

If you consider A B and D to be different nuances of the same answer then technically...

I admit it's a long stretch.

If GW2 is similar enough that moving GW1 chars across even conceptually would make sense, I'm going to be irked. New game, I want to see new classes, new skills, new armours, new customisation options, new weapons... well, new everything, really.

I'd like to see names reserved, either automatically, or as an option for people so that chars that haven't been logged in, in years, don't tie up names.

Do you honestly expect people to play the game otherwise? This just seems so insanely contradictory to what people were told what they had purchased. Might as well make Chp 4 this way if Anet has this method to playing the game. If factions had not this ability people would have quit then and there, night fall takes place 3 years from Ascalon events, you can EASILY in a FANTASY WORLD make up ANYTHING that can carry over a character from a different part in time. Maybe the equipment will be obselete yet the functions I am certain would not completely differ from the first set of games.

There was one idea, where characters could be crossed from The Hall of Heroes. I completely agree with this idea.

Why is there even a poll? I haven't seen/heard of any confirmation that there will be a GW2 from anyone at Anet. My feeling is that there should just be a fresh start. It's a game after all. There's no reason why everyone should be level 20 right from the beginning. Not to mention it'd likely be boring.

Funny how nearly every comment on here is for NO, but the Yeses are winning.

I would like it if my toon was allowed to crossover, A LOT of time spent in building her.

I also agree with the person that talked about why not if its a true GW, and if its not then why bother calling it GW2 at all???

Though you do have to consider that ANet has taken the things that worked in GW, AND the things that did not and hopefully are implementing them to be the best there is. Will I quit playing if I can't bring my toons over...or will I play at all. I won't know like many until more is available OFFICAL info is available.
