Sure, those two events are possible... but unlikely given the evidence. Thus, my point.

Im just excited to know that they didn't go all the way through GW1 without even trying.

It COULD be happening. I hope it is actually
But, why didn't they start earlier?

Maybe they needed to remove the districcts frontiers and boundaries firsts, and there where legal issues against that...
Maybe the market uses a single server, to save resources, nad they would have to use various servers before removing the separations.
It's logical. If you are setting a system that uses few resources, like a forum board you won't use multiple machines, just one.

The Latest Idea on why it hasn't been implemented is actually rather intriguing. The fact is we have two ideas and they all point to the marketplace being released sometime next month now (Late february).
The Canthan New Year AND The Fact that Japanese/Korean Districts will be dissolved by then. All users sharing one marketplace is definately going to help promote marketplace usage.

In any case here is to hoping. Would be so cool to have something like that since many people as well as myself don't have time to sit in town spamming all day and night.

a market place, which fix pricing on stuffs and a need to registers your characters with the market place npc will potentially be the end of bots and un-wanted gold sellers.
every trade have to be done using your registered character.

I guess they didnt want to tie up resources they already missed on new feature that potentially consumed hundreds of mandays.

Only thing hurting botters is fact it seems that unids are unsellable in marketplace.

So what, botter will register his characters for sales if he wants to use marketplace, but they would trade face to face. if you have nothing to hide, its not a bad idea at all. beside, i don't sell stuffs hahaha, so it doesn't affect me, but on the other hand, if you really really want to set up shop, you should register yourself.

Have you ever given out stuff? That is trading.
Have you ever muled stuff or helped someone mule suff between accounts? That is trading.
Have you ever borrowed stuff? Again its trading.
You woldnt be able to drop stuff on ground (omg, it would be abuseable for trading).
Barter trading would be impossible.
Terribad idea to prevent all this.
As for "real life identification", it soo damn easy to fake some (guess what, you need to provide that kind of info when registering GW account and you have to agree to some legaleese too ... didnt stop bots so far, besides reenterign that info for some fetaure is redudnant.)
And that "If you have nothing to hide..." by people who support all kinds of restrictive garbage just opens knife in my pocket. So what, people are entitled for privacy. People who HAVE something to hide can bypass it easily anyway, so there is no point, no point at all, unless you want to hurt sheep people who think they have nothing to hide.
I really dont get it, people got "evil, evil, evil guy is gonna get you" and agree with all kinds of self-crippling shit that is not even gonna help happily.

Limiting trade to the marketplace would be a mistake.
It would be better if it where a place where you can set a limited number of items to be sold while you are playing.
Waiting in outposts to trade it's a waste of time, and by trading via third-party systems it's a nuisance if you don't share timezones.
Ok, I found a buyer for my item. I can enter the game from 21:00 to 23:30 GMT, and he can only from 4:00 to to 7:00 GMT.
Dang.
So I see the marketplace as a separate system you connect with only by entering the Xunlai Market, outpost, to set the things you sell, and other can buy them by searching it Xunlai Agents.
That could work quite good.

I was thinking it should be an automatic transaction if they can pull it off.
Buyer gets the item when they buy it and seller gets gold when they come to pick it up.

Well, offline trading does not sounds that much necesary.
Not only that it sounds harder to implelement, it is not that much necesary: you dont need to meet that 4-7 guy because there is chance that there is someone who is online at same time like you who is also interested in that item.
And you could always just leave computer on and afk overnight in some calm outpost to widen your access window to market.

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but I seem to remember a few months ago ArenaNet was looking for German and Spanish speaking testers in the Seattle area (it was also in the login announcements).
So, that means that this probably wasn't localized, but rather simply translated for those testers, since the only reported translated strings have been in German and Spanish.
I don't mean to be a downer on the conversation, but this probably means that it's further from a finished state than some people seem to think.
Just my $0.02.

I don't see a direct relation.
If the localized lines where not there and now there are, it's because there has been some kind of change isn't it?

The question isnt, how long until release? It's, how long until they announce it?

I understand where your coming from, but I don't see how this flip-flopped would make any sense. Unless Anet does it differently.

Now we are all waiting for another dat update to see if we find anything new!!

There was a small update just now (new User Agreement too). Was too small to really contain anything new though, methinks.

I seriously hope so, but even if all the data we have is true, we only know that they are testing it.
If they suddenly need more human resources for other questions, and they find difficulties in development or resources to keep the thing up, they may drop the 'project'.
So in the end we know nothing.
I just hope we can sing the final Portal song about this:
"This was a triumph,
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCESS,
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction..."

Meanwhile, if this XMP comes out for GW1, it'll keep me alive until then.

as late as this feature may be, i will still appreciate it b/c it may finally mean mods wont take hours of standing shifting thru spam in la.
