Why are most people directly comparing the new AI with PvP play?

They are entirely different beasts. No, getting rid of AoE does not make PvE more challenging and fun. It practically eradicates the games own class system when it comes to basic battle tactics. Most people with multiple lvl20 characters have come to learn, understand and enjoy the game mechanics and character classes and how the game worked for their choice of character. Now it doesn't. The only way it would is if AoE was entirely done away with in PvE builds.

And those that are dribbling on about more realistic AI and how PvP players don't stand in AoE. PvP players aren't 8 levels higher than you and can't flatten you down in 2 hits.
It's not about "pvp level", not even about "more realistic", it's just about "AI won't stay still waiting for you to mass murder" (we all know about gryphons GENOCIDE).
But don't worry, you still can kill them easily, they don't spam ressurection signet.

And habits are there to be changed. I now have to rethink some of my characters, maybe even delete one or two of them, but that's just an opportunity to play the game in a new fashion.
I'm eager to see people spamming in town "LF snarer water ele and interrupting mesmer".

However, I have to say that was _poorly_ implemented with all this "run back & forth & aggro all the map" stuff. Well thought, not really well done.
Change elementalist henchies skills, make other elementalist attribute lines available earlier in the game, make mobs stay longer under AoE spells before they scatter and it would resolve many issues.

Ok, after playing a little more, the patch imo is great. Makes gameplay more challenging and fun.

Ditto. All the "tons of complaints" are a blatant minority, as my Water Mage who uses Fire Storm as a shutdown spell still can't get a group, and I still hear "NUKER NEEDED!" in towns.

Pitiful. I'll just use henchies yet again in the Ruins of Surmia and beat the mission with them and their new improved AI.

True, but visit any heavily populated town or outpost and you see the very same arguments there.

the game isn't harder the game has become total chaos.
Some people (very large group) likes to just farm and be a great dmg maker or tanking like crazy or smiting and even solo'ing pve was made for that so u can go with the story like a RPG. I know that most of the people here hated it when like a few noobs ran off in a mission like thunderheadkeep what resolves in total chaos and eventually the death of the whole team cause the enemys were everywhere. And that is just the one thing this update does to pve... creating a total chaos. If people wanna play pvp ok that mod was in the game let them play. But A-Net surely doesn't need to nerf the whole freaking builds in pve.
If changes wont be made this might resolve in the end of GuildWars. What surely doesn't make the expansion interesting since there is already a WoW expansion on the way like said earlier.

Ok how will slow down skill help much for AoE?

1.) Takes a long time to cast most AoE skill, so cannot slow them down first.
2.) Takes coordination...can do it somewhat with voice chat, but pain to do in a pick-up group
3.) Things like metor shower only hit a small spot at at time, while others like maelstrom, chaos storm have a small area so it still will not do much damage before they manage to leave the AoE.

OK here is my number 1 complaint
They have been talking about adding important elements into the game like player slots, more storage space, a better market or way of trading for awhile now. But what do they do? Make a Halloween theme and give out useless goodies and then nerf AoE in order to stop farming? What is wrong with farming if everyone can do it? It is not an exploit. Getting rid of it will actually shoot prices back up for weapons rather than dropping them. If they want to go after an exploit, go after the people selling gold on eBay!

lol. So true... But after equipping all those defensive spells, what is the point of a elementalists trying any attack spells? Or can an Ele use that mighty staff or wand to knock them out in melee?

I don't feel like going back through all the pages, however - I find it laudible the notion of this new update challeging and fresh and new "twist" a new "reason" lol to play the game and make us "better players for PvP". LOL!!!! THE ENTIRE REASON THAT THE GAME HAS BEEN DISPLEASUREABLE FOR SOME OF US, is because they're EXIST people that SPEND COUNTLESS hours of their lives finding builds and exploit them (mainly in PvP Environments mind you, where balance is more essential), to gain favor, money, fame, faction etc. and leave us in the dust.

Here are some supporting facts as to the absolute fact that PvE and PvP are generally the same and how this update changes only one thing...the fact that many of us don't want to waste our time chasing our enemies. Even in PvP, some people in Tombs, when the last one, will kindly surrender rather than run us around for several minutes trying to cripple them.

Examples: PVP Related.

IWAY.
TRAPPER.
SPIKER.
SMITER.
EOE BOMB.
HEALING BALLS.
ETC.

Examples: PVE Related.

Sorrows Furnace Farming Build.
The "Dreaded Solo Monk" Build. (you are just mad you don't have one)
The Warrior Monk Healing Hands Build.
The Mesmer that can solo ATTAXES! OMG yea it can be done.
ETC.

In concusion, LOL...PvP yep real challange there. Humm wait - THE SAME EXACT STUFF goes on there.

IWAY, Sorrows Furnace Green Farming runs....IS THERE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!
ANSWER NO.

POINT: This does not A. Make the game more challanging as the AI move out of AOEs. B. To all you people saying "Find a new build, that is NOT the purpose of our objection.", out objection is the fact that we HAD our builds. WE HAD our way of playing, and we all worked very hard to do it. I.E. to create challange make new areas... don't have the money for R+D, then just sit back and leave it be, Trust me we won't be upset. We get upset, when one day I log on, and 60% of my base skills for 3 of my classes - have essentially been rendered by one 2 minute patch.

Not to insult anyone, but I loved this game a lot, I mean, this is what I looked forward to playing everyday - it is one of the few things that I have that really give me a great sense of satisfaction and entertainment. But I just feel so upset because I and many others feel like we have no value to you guys at Anet, stuff like this I feel like we are in Kindergarten. One kid eats a crayon and all the other kids get theirs taken away. In life, bad things happen, people's lives are constantly in jeopardy, people have heart attacks, but does the Government ban operating motor vehicles or ban eating fast food?

We just wanna have fun. It's not real life, let us have our FOW to show off to our friends

Next thing - especially in UW / FoW: How are you actually supposed to kill the critters in a REASONABLE time without a nuker? I loved the groups they were before (if I could get into one, that was...): Tanks who could tank, nukers who would do the brunt of the damage, Monks who'd prot and heal, Necros who would care about the monks's energy and do nasty stuff to critters and Mesmers who'd wreak havoc among enemy caster types. Everyone had a specific role. Tactics. Strategy. Now's it all about playing tag with madly dashing Ataxes and Shadow Warriors. Leroy Jenkins style of gameplay. Everybody runs away from everybody. And nukers will take the Mesmers' role of the most hated class in the game. Even worse, since Mesmers were only considered useless while nukers from now on will be considered DANGEROUS.
1) While I agree about a Mez getting invited into a group that may now change with the recent changes. Ppl may now actually take a Mez with them as they will be afraid to take a Ele as they dont want the scatter effect.

2) Ask them what they are specced in before you start the mission or better yet before you invite/accept them to your party.

3) Again don't take a scatter causing AoE user to the UW/FoW. I have been in plenty of FoW groups that haven't used Ele AoEs. Granted most of the time due to the Eles leaving the game but nevertheless you dont need Ele nukes to kill fast. Two Mez(for example a Dom/Insp & a Illusion/Insp) will take care of mobs fast. Also try giving Cursebearer Necros a shot. A good Cursebearer in a party can make things soooooooooo much easier it isn't even funny. Or even better try a Mez & Cursebearer duo.

4) Agreed. Nuker eles are or will be the new GW pariahs. Good thing about that is Mez, Rangers & even Necros will get more play.

all this change really did was point out the importance of positioning...if the nuker casts a fire storm and the mob runs into the tank(OMG we have to actually think about this shit now?) the tank is still tanking and the nuker is still nuking...it's against all theories of nature for the mob to stand there and get beat up on.

Since you bought 8 sets of 15k armor, you should probably have a good number of skills points built up. What exactly are you planning on doing with them? Waiting for the expansion should be your answer, but wow, you probably have enough to buy every new skill available. How fun is that?

Guild Wars is not a MMORPG? Interesting. What have I been playing all this time? It's online, it has multiple people, it's an RPG. Like you said, maybe not your typical but tell me again why this game isn't for me.....

I said I want CONTENT to keep me busy - ok. Strategy came into play with the story and quests. How ever did I make it through the game (multiple, multiple times) without thinking? Maybe while I was mindlessly "button smashing," I stumbled on the correct combonation each and every time.

Question: How exactly did you earn all that money/resources for those 8 sets (not including yours). Farm? or perhaps you ran people which is about the only thing left to do.

DO NOT EVER TELL ME WHERE TO GO........be professional and read the fact that they could have waited to correct these issues when there was more substance to the game.

If you want to play against enemies that stay in ranged damage go to the Lions Arch arena or enjoy playing against an Iway team.

PvE enemies are smarter now.
I have little hope that this will make average pvp smarter, too.

I wasn't talking about all the people who play. My point was directed at FORUM POSTERS, the people who come here to complain or praise everything ANet does. WE are a minority, and a very small one at that. WE do NOT reflect the majority opinion of people that play. WE are not empowered to speak for them and make sweeping judgements about what everyone who plays the game wants. Just because the majority of posters here think the update sucks does NOT mean that the majority of all players feel that way. We are not the "be all/end all" of GW players.

As simple as that.

I play this game (PVE) cause i love it till yesterday. It's my stress reliefer after a work day.

Now is lost all the fun. When i want to real challenges i go PVP not PVE.
You've just go from one limit to the other.
Yes it's very amusing to see, mobs running at minimum signal of damage, give me a break, please

I am one of those regular guys(married, and two kids, works full time etc.... )Just because I post on a forum doesn't make me a non person or a freak now.

And as said by another, I saw that most the towns were all about the very thing we are discussing here. So it is not just the online posters as you claimed.

Granted, the other's post was a bit too brutal, but to judge an arguement by dismissing them as one of the online freakish minorities(my words) that is not fair.

Who are you to tell us that we cannot speak for ourselves? - Think also, that perhaps you are definately not inclued when we say "we or us". Also you do not speak for this "other majority you speak of", and we don't predend to speak for then as you have already, perhaps the average gamer knows nothing of these forums. So please, do not put us in "our place". This is a discussion here, and I would appreciate it if you were not to attack me, and those that share my opionins by calling us "ignorant" for having our own views.

And as a disclaimer for all - these forums seem to be one of the only ways we are able to express ourselves and as opposed to doing something like "/bug this update sucks in case you were wondering."

Well guess what guys. This forces people making parties to bring other classes in the mix. Necro/mesmer/ranger etc. So...if you were a mesmer prior you were screwed bottom line. Now, that they have made this update, mesmers/necros/rangers will be more popular. And pve is too easy with 3 echo nukers anyway......You gotta adapt. Dude, requardless of what you think an RPG IS? I'm confused. Cause like bascially, I got these four dudes right, and when I log in I pick on right? Then after then I run around pretending to kill vitual stuff with a fake sword - humm I was thinking i was playing a role. I completely agree with Scott, and I don't understand why you have such animosity toward the poor guy. Because you don't have any skills to unlock, guess what you get to do, you get to run around and play with the AI that now runs around aimlessly when you sneeze one them. So please don't take out your lack of creativity on Scott or the rest of us.

From the point of view of a player that farms and solos often, that's really the last thing I want If none of my guild are online or need help then I'll play solo and/or farm. It keeps me occupied, it's fun, it's what I want to do.
If I cant farm or solo when noone's on, I won't log on. Simple as that.
Completely nerfing solo play can only drive players away.

Not to mention it's the only way, bar logging on ebay, that I'd have got my 15k sets and start saving for fissure armour. Im proud of what I've earned by playing in a legit way. I have killed and collected all I need myself, yet Anet seems to believe this is indeed not legit and is cutting me and everyone else off. Whilst others simply buy money online and cheat their way to the top. It's my time to waste and if I choose to invest it in farming, I deserve to reap the rewards.

Back a bit more on topic, I can't believe this patch has been properly tested by experienced players and then just thrown at us, forcing the way we play the whole game to change. If it has, it's going to seriously shaft my opinion of Anet, up until this point has been stellar (disregarding a few previous skill nerfs). However previous nerfs have only been nothing more than a minor irritation.
I kinda feel rather letdown in fact that seemingly Anet is so focused on stopping solo play, they've gone and caused a whole other argument over AoE and whether a whole other class is any use whatsoever. I'd just liek see an apology for them making a stupid change that hadn't been thought through and fix it. Or they'll lose a lot more players than they may think they do due to soloing monks. IMO they've done nothing but push the war on farming into the streets.

Those trying to convince others that this update was an 'evolution' of the game and the rest of us to go play something else? Well i'll argue I play this game because I like(d) this game. I may have characters maxed out but I still want to keep playing because it's still fun. I'm sure many others are the same. Maybe those who need the change so much should be the one's to try another game?
This is not an 'update' or improvement. An entire set of skills set has been pratically rendered useless.

This update is a mistake and I'm willing to bet things will be put back, if only to keep the countless nukers with pratically nothing to do.
How many players would stay in a game such as Quake 3 if ID suddenly decided rocket jumps and railguns had to go? You can't just (even indirectly, as this may be) strip previously attainable content and choice from a game and expect people to like it. It better get fixed and bloody fast.

You wish ... they're exactly the same ~ Mesmers were the tacticians ~ slowly take 'em out ... Tanks took the heat while ele's cast their "slow" spells which helped to take 'em out fast. Rangers got distance and powerful attacks. No group was better than another and you couldn't truley survive one battle by yourself.

now it just takes longer and spells are basically canceled out ~ was fun ..

not just ele's ~ all AoE skills. If it were just Ele ... then I'd accept defeat and work with my other characters ... but naturally, everyone of my characters is effected a lot.
