Where does it say Hard Mode is mandatory?

Trapping Stygian Veil in hard mode. 16 LB points per kill, 36 monsters dead in 7 minutes or so. Not to mention the abundance of skill points...

Even heroes know mending sucks. As with every maintained enchantment, you must disable the skill and cast it manually. That is by design.
