So many, where to start . . .

I don't visit the arenas much, but was recently in the Shiverpeak arena. Our group of 4 warriors was doing well, had a few consec wins, when one had to leave at the start of the match. Despite missing a player, we won that match as well. Next round we picked up a monk. One of the other warrs says "hi" and reassures the monk by saying, "don't worry, we've been doing pretty good". The monk returns with some comment about how good he is . . . The next battle was a toughie - two eles in particular beating the crap outta us, however we managed to work as a team and take them out. Afterwards, as the rest of us are offering "gg"s and "gj"s to all, the monk says in general chat "I wish the eles were on my team" and tells us how he saved our lives and then promptly drops. . . .was that really necessary? Grrr.

I was in a group trying to finish the Vizunah Square mission, I wanted to get my third sword. We only needed one more person, so the leader accepted a level 19 necro. The level wasn't a big deal really, but while we were discussing strategy and requirements for 3 swords, the necro started spamming. "lets just go" over and over. So i say in team chat that the necro looks like they will be more trouble than they are worth. They kept spamming the "lets just go" crap for a minute, then noticed that I had said something about them. The person then said "shut up n00b b****" so I promtly left the group. We were still in town and I will not put up with that crap. The leader kicked the person and reinvited me. A few minutes later he started PMing people to find out if it was because of his level.

People just don't seem to realise, impatience will make them lose out on many things.

Is it just me, or is there a new trend where the group leader doesn't ask if people are ready before starting?

It makes no difference anymore. Ask the monk if s/he's a healer, and s/he will say "Yes". When the mission is started, all the monk does is spamming breeze and carries no rez.
Wait an other five minutes, and suddenly people start leaving. Just Gogogogogo!!!! It makes no difference in pugs.

Hahaha!!! I am normally the monk. I have stopped even switching my skills anymore. I refuse since they will leave when I am in the middle and can't see the stupid timer is up because my skills and attributes windows are open. It has happened so many times in Factions that it is just ridiculous. So when I say I am a boon protection monk, if anyone has a problem with it or wants me to switch I just leave. Better than starting the mission in the middle of a change.

Maybe it means that I'm a jerk, but usually I am partyleader and when people start spamming 'gogogo' I kick them without questioning. Same as people that dont reply after they are asked questions on their build/skills.

But for some reason my % of missions and quest finished on first try is extremely high...

the biggest jerk in gw for me was a guy on a guild that we had merged with.(no longer merged mostly due to his behaviour and a couple others) But this guy was horrible. He would insult anyone that wasn't in the guild, even went so far as to insult a friend I had brought into our group(didnt know she was a buddy), he stands back and watches what the non guildie throws out at monsters, then constantly berates them till they end up leaving. He thinks he is the best at what he does, he insults ppl in ventrilo, if he dies and you are the monk....well, you think he would just get up and continue, no...he will go so far as to accuse the monk of letting him die and berate them, even if they are a guildie. He made joining that guild hell, and I am glad we are gone. He thinks he is the best player out there, and OMG what a loser!! He is a fine player when he isnt being an jerk, but he is almost always a jerk. He also thinks he has done nothing wrong when confronted with the problems. A "real" winner. He and another buddy will leave you dead on the floor and go collect the reward for a quest and not bother to res you, sure made me feel like a member of the guild. I would love to post who this is and what guild, but I think that is best left unsaid. He knows who he is. Royal jerk and a megga jack@$$

I don't see how that makes him a jerk. He wants success, efficiency, and doesn't want to get hassled. All of these seem like logical desires which lead to playing the game in peace without having to worry about carrying the burdens of others in one's group. Weeding out undesirables may make those people who don't know what they are doing feel bad, but this is a game where having a bad group can lead to a lot of wasted time. Its a matter of business and not a problem that he has with the people themselves. In that sense, he is far from a jerk. Really, when I went through the game with my mesmer and my assassin, I didn't mind when people didn't take me into groups because I understood their rationale. The same principle applies here.

If we all played like that where you had all those requirements no one would be getting a group. Also, don't forget that we all started somewhere.

No, it's called screening, not jerkiness.

It has already been mentioned, here and in other threads, that certain behaviours during group setup are good indicators for a player's performance in a group.
It all depends on context.

Teasing a group of friends with "gogogo" is different to doing it in a PUG when people are still attuning their skillbars or have not answered the "ready?" question.
Being unresponsive means catatonic or afk unanounced, both bad.
A friendly question after skills used is also ok with me - prescribing to me my skill bar is not.
Kicking the offender before starting is the last chance you have...

Usually as soon as someone starts asking my skillbar I just leave. If I am saying I am a healing monk or whatever is good enough. I hate when people start telling me to switch skills especially when I know what I am doing. It a game so let them use whatever. Thats for pve. for pvp sometimes some group builds require certain skills which is understandable and what random pvp is for. But in pve no certain build is required some just help more then others like mm and healing monks.

I care to disagree, it might not be an entire skill bar but certains skills make certain missions really easy. One example, winter (ranger spirit) for the titans and more recently in the deep where having a heal party is generally a must. Heck, when i organise the group i ask the monks to bring prot spirit as well, it's nice to chuck onto a tank at times.

There are far more people out there that THINK they know what they are doing then actually know what they are doing. Hence Guildmaster Cain has to screen everyone. I agree with him, as he never said he wasn't nice to noobs. When I join a group and the leader asks my skill bar(can be annoying to type them all out), or suggests a few skills...I know I'm in a good group.

Fair enough, but asking to carry one additional skill is different from checking my entire skill bar. Does making me type out my skillbar make the group any better? Probably not. 1) I can lie, 2) I can listen to your suggestions and not take them, 3) I can switch up my skill bar to match your requests and then spend half the mission trying to relearn a new set of keys for my skills.

I'm more then willing to listen to requests for a single skill then for someone trying to tell me how to do my job.

This is true, and I have been a jerk to people in the past. Now, generally I'm a very nice and fair person, but certain actions make me RAAAAAGE.

Once, my mesmer was kicked from an Abaddon's Mouth party for no reason. The party leader then filled up all of his slots except one and started yodelling for a monk. I signed back on as my monk. Apparently, he didn't notice my cape.

I let him die repeatedly.

In the end, I left the party on its own. I doomed six undeserving people, but I at least made the leader's life miserable.

<--- Jerkface

[edit] Oh, and sometimes, when I have a guild group together and we have 1 open slot, I advertise it out. "GUILD GROUP 7/8 FOR MISSION--CAN TAKE ANYONE". Then I enter the mission.

So I was on my level 20 ranger helping out my friend, giving him tips, running him places, teaching him how to craft armor...this ele asks me if i can give him money, and I flat out say no, because I don't appreciate beggars

He pm's me and calls me a nerd, so I ask him why. He tells me that since I am level 20, I obviously play the game and do nothing else, and I'm a big nerd...by now I can't believe what I'm hearing. I tell him that he is misinformed and a noob, and he tells me I'm a nerd for saying "noob"

...sometimes i wish my flesh golem could attack people...

Kicking someone for the "gogogogo" stuff isn't being a jerk at all. I've found that people who spam that in the staging area tend to rush things in-mission, ignoring the need for the occasional "heal-up" or "re-charge."

Why put yourself and six other people at risk for failure because of ONE person's impatience?

I still find it annoying, especially when you have a title like protector of tyria. And you know what I disagree since just because a person is asking skill group doesnt mean your in a good group. big factor is timing and skill even if you have the proper skill.

I feel like I should make my personal contribution to this thread, so here goes:

The biggest jerk I've ever encountered in Guild Wars is, well... the biggest jerks are pretty much everyone who has used "gay" and all its related derogatory terms as an insult. It really just isn't cool, its the same thing as using "black" or the "n" word as an insult, which thankfully is no longer socially acceptable (generally speaking). I suppose it isn't any worse in GW than other games, but really, it really just pisses me off.

I was playing with my Assassin in RA, Aura of displacement is fun.

So all my teamates were dead (I'm not a runner, I carried res and used it.) so I teleported and ran enough to get one of them alone, so I can atleast kill oe of them.

So this warrior runs after me screaming "PUSSY NOOB COWARD" So then he asks to 1v1 me.
I 1v1 him, the monk life bonded and filled him with enchants. I had him at half hp, but the life bond and all....you know. So I teleported away and gave up, then said "The monk life bonded you, so draw."
Soafterwards, he whispers me "OMG IDIOT I USE PLAQUE TOUCH ON U" I wonder what that had to do with anything. He continued to insult me.

theres enouth anoing, stressing and unpleasant things in real life... why would u wanna volonarly expose yourself to MORE of those in a PC game. I play for Fun, and not as my job. and since i play 10 hrs a week (average) i dont want to waist it

so no, kicking some 10 years old for saying gogogogo!!! or anyother thing , like not saying skills, is TOTALY fine with me

My level 17 geomancer kept getting kicked from groups because of her level. It was sad really. Armour of earth and ward against melee made me have good armour and durability, and you'd think that me being level 17 at Takhani temple would suggest I know what I'm doing. Apparently not.

I can be a jerk myself though; sometimes, when I'm feeling arsy and people invite, say, my necro in to be a SS necro (How effin original ffs. I was doing the SS build before it became fashionable.) when I'm set up for feast of corruption or linger curse. They ask:
'Can you SS?'
Me: 'Yea.'
So we go into the game, I'm playing as FoC. Eventually, someone noticed I wasn't using SS and started whining and bitching. I snarkily replied 'You asked if I COULD be SS.'

He left, and we went on to complete that mission anyway.

------------
I kicked a warrior from the Eternal Grove party I had formed because a mm necro had joined our group, and he was a N/Me.

So warrior girl starts going into a long and boring lecture about how all minionmasters should be monk secondary (Despite the fact Blood of the Master and Ventera's Sacrifice do the job perfectly well... and last I checked, monk heals actually increased health degen of minions). Well, he struck me as the sort of twit who fights the game to fixed patterns and builds, and will leave/sulk if things don't go exactly the way they want, so I booted her.

...Irony is, the warrior I replaced her with dropped (I think he got an err=07. We had almost clobbered the last wave) in the mission too!

True, in some missions 1 or 2 skills are key to the success of the mission-quest, but i get pissed off when someone try to order me what skillbar must i have or that skill i'm using is trash.

They probably haven't played the char more than 10 days and are filled with "Forum builds", pretending that they are in "possesion of the truth".

Lame.

It puts me in rage.

I find ok when someone asks for "Bonder", "SS Necro" or "Tank". They are overall builds with many variations and each one is comfortable with his skillbar.

To pretend that other person runs "your" build , with exactly that "uber" skillset, is pretty stupid. It's jerkish, since you are subtle saying "You have no idea what are you playing, so change your crappy build for something useful".
And no, to say it in a educated way doesn't work either. If want to discuss builds do it at the end of the mission , not during the fights .

I'm getting less tolerant with such kind of ppl, and although i PUG not that often, i'll quit the group, before or during the mission. I'm sry for the rest of the ppl, but i'm fed up with such behaviour.

i find most people in this game to be pretty nice, but one guy really got under my skin yesterday.
I was in RA testing out air of enchanting and seeing its effect on smiting, we loaded and i informed the rest of the group that i was smiting so dont rely too heavily on being healed.

This one necro then proceeded to attack me, calling me a noob and then some expletives. I politely asked him what was wrong with being a smiting monk, and said that they seem back in fashion in HA. I was then met with more name calling, with him also proceeding to say that HA was 8v8 and is a completely noobfest compared to RA (wtf?).
I then asked if it is RA then why should it matter what i play, again i was called a noob and told that to play smiting was rude because, and i quote, "healing is more useful".

At this point i got fed up with all the swearing and such so i left the game, then i got continued msg for 5 minutes calling me a b#tch. And to not come in to ra until i "grow some balls". Straight on to the ignore list, only my second in 12 months of playing...

It was an interesting experiment to say the least, maybe HA and all its rank discrimination isnt so bad after all...at least they make sense there.

I get this a lot too...
My favorite character is my N/Mo.
I play as a pumped mini-spike blood necro, but bring along healing breeze.

I went to the UW a few days ago, and some warrior got on my case for using healing breeze. (I was healing him, of all things!) He told me it was the dumbest skill you could ever bring and I'm a moron for using it --- and kept at it for the next 15 minutes. I made a few attempts to explain how I was using it (self & other heal + focus item enchant bonus.), but it didn't seem to sink in. Gave up trying after a while, but he just kept at it. I stopped putting my breeze on him as he rushed in, and guess what! He dies.... (I think the team monks were irritated too!)

That didn't stop his rant. Luckily we all died soon after, so I didn't have to listen to his elite, only-my-builds-can-work attitude.

BTW.... I love my build - and most often parties can see my value.

I use Awaken the Blood to pump my blood up to 18,
then use 3 skills for blood spike (shadow strike, vamp strike, barb sig)
Well of Power for party heal/recharge, (+6 life, +2 energy at blood 18)
-- Its amazing how many people have never seen what WoP can do to help!
One of Mark of Subversion/Strip enchant/lifebane strike - depending on mission.
-- Thanks Factions for Lifebane! - It's a copy of shadow strike, so now I have two!
Healing Breeze (set to +7 regen) - Great for myself when in trouble & secondary heals to help monks with others.
