TBH using a PI or Tease henchmen isnt really handicapping your team, its quite the opposite as they interrupt perfectly, while human mesmers dont.

Henchmen are actually more useful for a new player as he wont have many skills yet. I'm thinking that he is forgetting to take the healer...
