Ya know, in that pic it looks like it would be all too easy to stab yourself in the throat/face with that shield.
It's useless in PvP, but pretty much manditory in PvE, at least for one section of it.
Headphones prevent feedback from the mic picking up sounds from the speakers. I personally don't have this problem but I still like headphones...
