ragos staff goes for 30-45k. Unless you really like the skin (which personally i think is crap) you can duplicate it. Exchange 5 giants jawbones...
I would have to say, that the double bonus fire wand from pits or weaponsmith would be the best. While +5 energy is nice, in reality its peanuts...

I dont see how minor upgrades would enable eles to 'solo anything' or make the staff redundant. Restrict offhands just to customisation...
