A E/Mo can spit out a lot of damage and can self heal. I'd probably focus on fire, and maybe put some points in earth for protective spells.

You get skills from missions and by buying from trainers--you have no control over which skills you get from missions and it has nothing to do...

You can switch to air or water at any time by moving around your attribute points. You might want to read the manual, etc.
