I set up one hero monk up with martyr and purge conditions and that seemed to work to keep poison and disease off the party enough to survive this...

Your ability to acquire hero skills is related to your sunspear rank. If you have a character with higher rank (or just unused hero skill points)...

Yeah Henchies have always had their own aggro bubble so you have to wait for them if you're running/sneaking around or they will cut a corner...
